Damage To Swift Moderator By Hmr Bullet

Sorry to hear that mate, but I am afraid this is another instance to add to the growing list of hmr horror stories, I hope it does not happen but I am afraid it is only a matter of time before somebody is injured by one of these. -
Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them
charlie caller replied to charlie caller's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well well I do seem to have opened a can of worms spoke to a couple of shooting acquaintances over the weekend, and they both reported a lack of foxes on their ground,so I am now convinced something is going on, if this has something to do with the weather or not or some other factors I am not sure, but it has been noted in my shooting diary, for reference for future years, and on the subject of killing, you can dress it up in any terminology you want, but it will still all mean the same thing to anti's, you are a bloodthirsty cruel b*****d that has no place in modern society, but I wonder h -

I don't doubt for a moment that they are out there, but it is very very unusual not to see them at haymaking that is what I mean, and the farmer is as shocked as me, because he normally breaks his neck to tell me how many he has seen, your suggestion of different times will be put to the test I had already decided to have a mega early morning soon, and I will have a walk round with the lamp, funnily enough, just been speaking to a shooting pal just over the border in Derbyshire and he is saying the same thing, something funny is going on that's for sure at the moment. -

Oooooooooh careful mate you might upset one of the pious holier than thou dogmen who seem to think foxes were put on earth to provide them with sport, (and before anyone pipes up I love to watch a good dog run) -
Well moulting out is started usually in feb-march and lasts aprox 6 months, basically the bird is fattened up and left(largely) to its own divices, lamping is a brilliant branch of the sport, and for me at least enables me to fly the bird in the short winter days when its dark and I have got home from work,if I did not lamp I would not keep a hawk, there is no great difference between Harris and reds on the lamp, my female Harris was very good on the lamp, and became very crafty flying out of the beam, I will be flying a male redtail this year, and he should be faster than a female Harris, and

Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them
charlie caller replied to charlie caller's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
That statement may have some truth in it were it not for the fact that it would normally be me shooting the cubs and there is only me and one other guy that shoot foxes on there, and he has just had a hand operation, so it isn't him, to be honest I am more concerned about the myxy, as I will be picking up my new hawk in a fortnight, looks like some travelling is in order. what hawk you having cc? Male redtail mate, pick him up aug 10th, cant wait been hawkless for two years now. -

spot on mate. Its vulpicide. ive got rifles but i would never assassinate a Fox. Ive seen blokes swelling with pride because theyve just murdered 2 or 3 cubs after sileage has been cut. What a load of hogwash, so you don't think that a farmer who makes his living (or part of it) from free range poultry, needs to cull foxes then? Swelling with pride or not. -
The males seem to take a little bit longer to switch on to the lamp for some reason, but he will, fed up on the bunny lure in the spotlight he will soon get it mate.

And Another Question... .243 75Gr Or 58Gr Norma
charlie caller replied to bbjaccov5's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Or you could try the Sierra 60gn hollowpoint @ 3800fps they tend to make rather a large hole, my loading was 45.5 grains of h414, col 2.600" smack on, but now I prefer the 80gn blitz, as they work superbly on deer. -
He will soon switch on to it mate, recall him at night to your glove illuminated with your headtorch, get somebody to pull the lure for you, with a good reward,he will soon be catching them pal.

I'm not sure mate. Bullx100% is the lad I was out with. I'm sure he will comment on here. Looks like a Hatsan Escort! Those guns get such bad stick, never had a problem with mine! Good shooting, you thinking about getting into it more now? finding one which fires 7 and halfs is the problem mate thats why they get so much stick when you find one which cycles 7 and halfs your on to a winner... Ye try 60 or 70 you might find one that works for a bit -
lets hope them permissions turn out good then. Bubba sounds a good name, sure you wont be calling him that though during initial training ha, might have to change his name to b*****d or something along those lines what me? don't be ridiculous man, I have the patience of a saint haha yes I have just purchased a new flask, as I expect to be sitting under trees, for protracted periods of time, but it is a male and I recall my mates redtail being well behaved in that respect, but oh when he switched on he tried and usually succeeded in killing everything that moved, you got to love the

In a nutshell Hutchy yes, try and get to a shop with a proper gunsmith rather than just a salesman, he will advise you on gunfit, which is the most important aspect (after safety obviously) of shotgun shooting, forget chokes, barrel length,(to an extent) and a host of other irrelevant things if the gun does not fit you, and if you find a gun that you really like but it does not fit you quite as well as another you don't like quite as much, have the gun altered to fit you, and you can always use this in a negotiation on price. -

Well you seem to be missing the point mate that "I am one of the gun boys" but as I have stated on this particular farm, at this time of year I would normally have shot several by now,and I always get an indepth report from the farmer, who considering he makes part of his living from free range poultry is keen to have them removed, but he says he has not seen one on the hay fields which is most unusual, and what difference may I ask does it make at what distance the fox was shot at? Well I cant imagine it makes a lot to the fox, dead is dead mate 50 yards or 500. -
Well lets hope its a flash in the pan so to speak, off to meet a landowner on sat morn to be shown round a new permission, so hopefully there wont be any about there, I need to check the state of some other permissions I have and not been on for a while as shooting and ferreting bunnies has taken rather a backseat over the last couple of years, with foxing and deerstalking taking priority, but this year with the new bird I will be bang at it again, yep will put some pictures up when I get him, think I might call him Bubba, good old hillbilly name that suits a redtail I think

Well it appears that the OP has gone silent on the subject, what was the point of asking our opinions/help and then ignoring all the replies? He was last active on the 22nd of july, so I would have expected a response, maybe one or two of us have hit the nail on the head and now he is embarrassed, fair play but why ask in the first place?

Good shooting, you thinking about getting into it more now? Yeah, looking at getting my first one soon, already tried clays with a friends gun but it kicked way too much. looking for one that will do clays, pheasants, etc No it did not kick too much mate, it just did not fit you properly, with a gun that fits you wont even notice magnum loads. -

Is anyone else noticing a lack of foxes on their ground at the moment? I have not seen one for the last 2 or 3 outings, a farm near me that I have shot over for years usually has the damn things everywhere at hay cutting time, speaking to the farmer he was very surprised to have seen none this time, now I am good but not that good lol, but seriously whats going on, and to cap it all it looks like bloody myxy is rearing its ugly head round me too
-
Bloody hell mate give the bird a rat or summat, and eat the guinea fowl yourself, lol, being serious (for once) two weeks on sat I pick the redtail up, I just hope I can find enough bunnies for early success, as myxy seems to be rearing its ugly head round here, bloody typical, they suffer with the rain last year, and now the hot weather has set the myxy off, which I find strange as the rabbits will sit out more rather than huddling together in warrens, oh well I guess the bushytails will get even more of a hammering
-
Well however good or bad it turns out to be I hope they can avoid the case issues surrounding the hmr, it will be a shame if they cant, but we shall see.
-
I quite agree with both of you, the bullet as I stated before has ample energy to despatch a fox never mind a rabbit at 250 yards, irrespective of if it is fired from a rimfire or a centerfire, no argument there, however we did start talking about 300 yards, and yes Alsone you did qualify what you said and changed to 250 yards, the point is this, stretching things to the max with relatively low powered calibres is sooner or later going to result in wounded quarry, tiny bullets are affected by the wind a lot, and lose velocity quickly, however I accept it Can be done without question,I just thi

Hi lads, I could do with another ferret this season as will be doing more ferreting,(new redtail hawk) so has anyone round Sheffield got any from good working stock, not expecting a freebie but no daft prices please, cheers.
