    Dear Deirdre, I'm having real serious issues, I keep loosing socks I don't understand it, one minute you put a pair in the wash only to find only one when hanging out on the line.. Why does it keep happening, I've lost stripy socks, spotty socks, knee socks, ankle socks, bed socks the lot! Why does only one only ever feck off never to be seen again, why not both! I'm at a loss of what to do, Regards, very upset sock lady

    Thanks Tuzo for reply. More or less what I thought, I'd love to try stop these two new broods. Never in my life had a broody, now got 2 ducks on one nest, one duck in a hedge and a bloody hen on 4 eggs..all within a few weeks. Phew nightmare.! That's what I get for wanting one go broody I guess

    Obviously natural broodies are best. BUT now here's my first question, WE who incubate and hatch eggs stop at certain times due to seasons changing, light/temps etc etc. So how come, broodys will hatch a clutch later than we would? Reason why I ask is yesterday I had another duck sit on a hidden clutch in a hedge, so if it goes full then we've 28days before they hatch! and also have a hen sitting on 4 eggs just this week again that'll be 21days. Plus the one in the shed who's eggs are due in a week or two (different aged eggs). Seeing as broody is better then it seems as though hat

    Do you lot notice how bad a scratch/nip off one of them buggers sting I find it 10x worse than putting your arm in a thorn bush full of nettles too LOL. By god it does sting, last one I had was round the wrist, and along the arm same place as yours cm. I swear I thought I'd caught something of the b******d

    I'm also inclined to the poison to be honest. I've had hens and roosters just drop dead or die suddenly, but never had any blood out of them before hand etc. I don't put poison down at all anymore because all my dogs/poultry/animals are practically free range at all times so I won't risk it. Only place I'll put it is in shed in a length of pipe tied so they have to eat it in there. The chickens wouldn't have been nibbling on a poisoned mouse/rat? I watched one of my roosters swallow a whole mouse once so any things possible!

    we have a nosy green-finch I DONT BLOODY BELIEVE IT. For months I've been trying to get a picture of birds in my garden (field) as I didn't know what they were. That's the boyos in that picture - we've a good few with the red on its head
