    Cheers for that. No, got 1 of them l got it many moons ago when l was realy into fishing, great reel love using it why didn't he buy it Not sure, l got the impession he was an out and out fisherman not a collector who just knew his stuff

    Not sure if this is the place for this, anyway l purchased in an auction today a couple of mitchell reels 1 being a half bail reel no sooner had the hammer dropped this guy came over and said it was not a common reel and could be worth a bit it has a number on the handle, so does anyone here know the value or maybe where l can find a value, looked on fleabay not much help realy, there is a mitchell museum with a forum but thought l would ask here first before l go through the hasle of registering, cheers in advance.

    +1, l got the BASC involved when they started going through my black bags and stopped taking them if they found anything, if you aint producing the waste as a rusult of a buisness they can not refuse to take it, in the end they just asked me to double bag it and even supply me the bags, l do freeze it during the summer months as well.

    You will need to get a tooth ground to know for sure, the older a buck gets the more the coronets slope downwards and he will start to "go back", its impossible to say how old he is but if l had to guess l would put him 3/4 years old

    Shot my first red with a 243 a few years back took it down no problem at about 120 yds since then l have taken a few with my 308 which to be honest l prefere if l know that the shots will be in woodland, but if l know that l will be shooting woodland red on open arable l have no problem taking them out with the 243.

    Out stalking saturday and saw my first clean roe buck of the year, anyone else seen any yet.

    Interesting, are you saying 35 lbs is too low that roes are bigger than this? In trying to understand comparable sizes with our whitetails, do roes run an average of 50 lbs field dressed? 35lb as an average for me is not to say would be the same elswhere a lot does depend on available food and the value of it, location and to a large degree how much disterbance the beasts will tollerate, also population is a big concideration if not the biggest, on my patch l have had beasts in excess of 50lb clean and as low as 10lb clean go further south and you may well get a higher average wieght wi

    Not sure how much or how far they do travel, my ground is not fallow ground the nearest resident fallow are probably 12 miles away but we do get a few passing through l cant say if they are from the nearest herd but l am sure its never the same animals that we get come through, so l would say 40km would be nothing for these animals to travel l have heard of tagged reds traveling 20miles plus.

    You are in the promised land, open season year round with no limit in some areas . What do you do with 44 deer? Is there a program such as "Feed the Hungry" ? I know the species of deer there is a lot smaller than that in Nova Scotia as we just have whitetail where bucks will average 170 lbs and does will average 110 lbs, this is field dressed weight. With no limit on what you can get, who manages the herd or are there just that many deer that they are a nuisance.     Depending on where you are located and what species you have present the season can be open all year round, if your lucky to have muntjac then you have shooting all year as there is no season on these little criters, if you have roe at the moment we can take does untill the end of march than the bucks come in until the end of october then the does start again so effectivly no stop with them, with fallow, red and sika we have a close season for males from the end of april to the end of july and for females from the end of march to the end of october, cwd are closed from the end of march to the

    I shoot probably 20-30 muntjac a year not a lot by some standards and they still intrigue me, l do see them and have shot them well away from cover at all times of the day but like all deer it does depend on the time of year, in woodland they are often active late mornings when other deer have couched up, in the evenings they often tend to move later after other species have made a move.     I live on the edge of the cambridgeshire fens and there's been red around my way for years but not in great numbers mostly drawn in by the local deer farm (not the one at March), plenty were l stalk in suffolk.

    l have just startd to see a bit of movement on my permissions, the cold snap kept them in the woods in the thick bramble where there is shelter and a plentifull food supply, they dont have to use up to much energy finding food.

    Its a real shame to find a dead doe anytime but made even worse because of the time of year and as wireviz says they will struggle through the winter months, on a lighter note l was out for a stalk last sunday, l dont normally call untill l see hard evidence the rut is on but decided to try a call, l did this over a period of about 1/2 an hour gave it another 1/2 an hour nothing showed so decided to have a look elswhere but with no more calling, as l was walking down the hedge from my chosen spot a good young buck came out of the wood and made his way strait to where l was calling l gave him a
