  1. I have read that three Men caught 25000 RABBITS in one Week in 1949 and sold them to Dealer for 5 .1/2d a couple [nearly 2. 1/2 p in new money , all the way through the article there were references to the type of trapping but i have no idea what it was.

I built a house in King Street Shepshed the Mixer was right next too the pavement next to a pack of Blue bricks with nothing else around it, at night i used to chain the Mixer, shovel, onto the Wheel Barrow, while i was doing this i put my Phone and Wallet on the Bricks done the Chain and went home and never gave it another thought until the next day when i went back work ! there was my Wallet and Phone still on the Bricks , the Phone had 3 missed calls on it and the Wallet had six hundred quid in it all in full view three feet from the Pavement , From that incident i can assume that the

    Do people still use LAYERS MASH , when i was a kid i was always mashing it up with boiled Potato peelings .
  9. I dug down for a Ferret many years ago and about 18 inches from the mouth of the hole was a handful of Snake skins, it was not in soil it was Foundry Clinker and Dross.

  13. Once a Dog turns its head it can never be trusted again, i remember tomo some years ago having a decent dog that turned its head to a Ewe , well he done the right thing and if i recall the dog was being sold but he did not pas it on he done what you must ...

A lot of people who have never saw or held a leaded line can imagine the line is all lead this is not the case the lead is large fishing shot that as been woven into the bottom line at 12 inch intervals . I knew a chap who shot through 60 years ago and he used one on Ridge & Furrow pastures when netting across the Grain .

    Catchicng them is not a problem but the hard bit comes later , they are very prone to stress so they need careful transport in containers that are suitable for the job ..... not a task for an amateur .
  16. DB Springs , they were always the cheapest in the past and the give reductions on the amount you buy so if you can find anyone else who wants a few club together and have a bulk order .

    None swimmers?

    All my kids started to swim in the same pool in Spain , two arm bands then one and away they went ! it was easy over there in the sunshine and there were lots kids to copy .

If i was starting out again i would only use Nels0ns Trammel nets they ideal for the land that you do up North as you say weight is a problem and i know that i cannot now manage mine but in any case the Rabbits have gone from the midlands but if i was 60 years younger i would pick them over anything .
  20. I have never saw a Black Grouse so i know nothing about them but mixi was far reaching , i read somewhere that their droppings were essential for Chick development in the wild population .

Twice i have shot one out of a covey with a 22 rifle and they have just milled around the dead one pecking and clucking allowing me to get a few more shots also i was out lamping one night and my Bedlington cross took five from one covey . in the early 60s i was working at Grafham water with two lads from Newmarket they went netting for Partridges on the Stubbles, their tackle was a net fixed to two drain rods at each end , they caught plenty and offered to take me but i never went because it was a spur of the moment thing where you went when the weather was just right much lik
