    what done this ?

I built some houses very close to the water in the 60s,all around the waters edge were dead pike 3-4 lb 100s of them, they had had a big pike match, and all those caught had to be knocked on the head.In the filter beds at the back,we used to tip the pipes up and get the rabbits out, one dinner time we got twenty , is it still the same?

    lamping

this morning i met up with two chaps who now lamp and ferret a farm in Lincs,a place i worked for years, although its been a bad season on this place ,they still managed a bag of 81 rabbits with two dogs,on one night ,and there best best days ferreting was 67. Anybody do better?
  4. It is true Wooga, because lots of lads on here have got one or two .But after 50 odd years ferreting,iv,e never actually seen one.

  7. you would use a bramble or a stick ,to push down a hole ,twist it,and hope to find some fur on it ,then dig along the tunnel and get your rabbit all the rest is a myth , in my opinion.
  8. Great shots ,keep posting. Those bodygrips are a deadly and versatile trap .
  9. 25 quid e w comply or die first bet in 5 years
  10. you could have got 26 for a tenner here
  11. They'll kick off, regardless. 5. It tastes like hedgehog. Not even remotely like chicken. 6. Perfectly safe, within the bounds of how safe it is to eat just about anything taken from the wild. Ye never know what something may have been about to drop dead with before ye killed it yeself Like anything else; If it's blood's bright red, it's fresh enough. 7. I have. But I don't consider it an issue. When will so called " Hunters " grow up and stop pissing in their own socks at the mention of eating something which can't be coursed? A Martian would have no such racially based b
  12. ditchy, do you no of any traps made in the states that resemble Jubys or Imbras,as i would like to take a look and have a fiddle before taking the next step
  13. Over the years i have read on this forum ,discriptions of various rabbit traps that worked well in theory, but in pratice had minor faults, for example , to heavy . to expensive . to complicated . weak springs . prone to jamming . ETC, With todays lightweight ,high tensile modern steel could any of these old traps be brought back into service. If so ,whitch why ,and how.
  14. I once went out with a keeper in the grantham area ,it was late september ,and we were shooting off the back of an austin champ, the first night we shot 99 the next night on the same stubble we had 120,all the rabbits were dumped.the same keeper told me,that him and a keeper from Boston once shot about 300 in the same area ,none were picked up though ,as the only price they could get in 1986 was 15 pence head shot gutted and delivered
  15. A Fenn or Bodygrip trap will kill a rabbit allmost instantly if set correctly. Myxomatosis takes about ten days. What would you prefer?
  16. stink them out to where you think they may be shallower,or trap them
  17. I like a rabbit that has been feeding on mangles or sugar beet the meat tastes sweeter somehow.Years ago my grandpa told me never eat a rabbit that feeds on bracken ,because they will be bitter,
  18. Can you see that key between shift and tab on your keyboard? Give it a press before you start to type and you might be able to cast a haze over your idiocy. It looks a straight forward reply to me mate, have you eaten a bad mole? or are you just being an arsehole?
  19. I used a liner before locators came out,as did all other serious ferreters, if you had any idea on how a lined ferret was used, you would not make remarks like [useless has a choclate fire guard],I can assure you they were not.In the right hands a big old buck on a line was a real asset
  20. l lamped rabbits for 30 years and i never thought hares were hard to catch, where the land has been lamped a lot they will leave the field as soon as you turn the lamp on ,just as rabbits will.I once had a very good dog, [bedlington whippet] he was,nt very fast but had loads of stamina and a brilliant strike, one night at peterbororough he caught 9 hares and 40 rabbits ,This dog could catch nothing in day light ,but on the lamp he was magic. This is proof to me that lamped hares are no real test for any running dog
  21. I used them last year on a motorway embankment.Once the pocket has been sited they are very easy to mantain.Ifirst blocked all the holes i could, leaving all the best holes along the bottom,i then pushed in a PPand chucked a bit soil in the bottom,i set the traps a few days later, and was catching young rabbits within minutes,in three weeks i caught a lot of young rabbits [mainlycoming out]and 7bucks and 1 barren doe all going in [[flight?].To me,the PP set up is ideal for killing large numbers of young rabbits in awkward places ,but mothering does seem to stay well clear of them
  22. mickey, i once snared a rabbit with a broken snare on its neck , and jagged my hand when killing a hare in a gate net one night as it had a broken wire on its neck also , that was many years ago , In the early 60s my granpa and me were having a drink with two old long netters, they were both great fellows with loads of tales, the talk got round to the size of rabbits ,oliver said he was behind the nets killing rabbits as they were driven in ,he said he thought he had killed a hare it was that big ,they gutted the catch and went home .When oliver hung is share up he saw the rabbit was wearing
