  1. It doesnt matter what gun you use on these creatures ,so long as you have a silver bullet, then you will find it suitable for other animals of this type, ie, werewolves ,unicorns, mermaids, yetis, nessies ,and dragons up to nine ton.
  2. any one know owt about snaring pigs , because over the last few days there seems to be a few PORKYS running around this part of the forum,Mr Tea Pot bagged one the other day ,but theres still a couple out there.
  3. Can we assume by this picture of this dead rabbit ,that your lurcher, didn,t make a catch either.
  4. Iwas out with a old keeper mate a couple of weeks ago ,he was using an old 22 with a thruppenny bit barrel and apperture sights,he stood there and shot two rabbits straight through the napper ,no rest ,no sticks, just stood there and done it ,thats a long shot to me.

  6. I wish it would here. On July 22nd you said, you was scared of trying to kill a rabbit ,as you did not want to cause it any sufferring, now you want them to catch myxomatosis.May i suggest that you retire from the rabbiting game and take up a hobby that is more in keeping with your character, train spotting for instance ,or even be a peeping tom,in my opinion, two pastimes, that you would be suitably quallified to take up. Well nature wiping them out doesn't bother me, I just want them gone! Its not nature wiping them out ,its a man made disease , a bit like you ,perhaps?

  9. Iwanted some rabbit for the ferrets,so i set a couple of snares about two oclock this afternoon ,i checked at 7-30 and found i had caught two 3/4 grown rabbits that were just over the mixi,i let them both go ,they were both fat and the scabs were dry ,with a bit of luck they will have a litter apiece this season.

    Lift Nets

How dos this work then mate, your saying rabbits wont cross a net because of foot problems, then you go on to saythat your knitting long nets to catch them by the toes. Can you explain in a bit more detail because its got me baffled It goes like this. For a lift net to work it needs rabbits to pass over it as it lays on the floor. Then the net is sprung and the rabbits are driven back into the net. A long net used in the traditional manner ( upright ) gets the rabbits driven into it before the rabbits hit the back of the net they will be standing on the net it is then t

  16. The keeper that taught me how to snare a little while ago told me to always aim to break the rabbits neck when you're snaring. well that speaks volumes because the keeper that taught you does not know how to snare either ill say it again THERE IS NO SNARE THAT BREAKS THE NECK OF A CAUGHT ANIMAL .iv snared a good few thousand rabbits and a fair old number of foxes and never ever have i had one with a broken neck ,it can sometimes be a job dislocating a neck on a big rabbit with your hands never mind a snare The way how i've been taught to set snares breaks quite a few rabbits ne

  18. I think its scent,Ted Brown worked as a rabbit catcher for the ministry of ag during the war, and my grandpa, said he was as good as they come. In the50s when i was growing up Ted used to say ,a rabbit sees more with its nose, than its eyes,if you ever set traps, try to cover your hands in a does piss, now i dont no if this is true ,but Ted thought so ,and he caught a lot of rabbits in his life, surely,if rabbits react to a snare ,a lot more would turn around at a purse net, back to trapping ,when my eldest lad and me set fen traps,i allways seem to catch more,we do it exactly the same, iset the tr

    Lift Nets

rabbits have no problem crossing hay ,or corn stubble before its bailed, so why should a bit of net bother them?

    Lift Nets

i bought one of these setups many years ago , i can flip up 200 yds of net in one go with no problem, the 1st time i set it up was with a brand new net on fixed poles so as you can imagine , the net stank of newness and the rabbits ran over no bother , all 4 0f them, i havn,t tried it as much as i should have , but wasnt too eager to leave all that expensive kit laid in a field even tho it isn,t easily seen untill you are close to it , i might hunt it out and give it another try this winter Thanks Rob, interesting idea. I'll have a look at that and see if it eases the lifting. M
