  1. sell a few to the pubgive em away eat some there is no market for rabbit meat in Leicester, they only eat curry here.
  2. came across this old picture this morning , 1990 i think, as i was just starting an extention on my house ,they were all full time lampers ,they never done anything else ,the rough dog on the left was never bettered in this area, not a fast dog but a good engine ,a second gear ,and a great strike, the bitch i'am stroking was class to , i had two matchs with her ,two lads came down from wales with a couple of dogs, they told me to pick witch one i wanted to run against ,i said any , but it didn't matter cuz she pissed the pair of them ,they blamed the land , weather ,but there was no rematch,th
  3. i was lucky with two of mine ,they just dropped dead ,one at warmington just after a run another hit a fence at the east of england show ground ,both were past there best and getting old quick ,others i had to take to the vets ,never again ,its the hardest job i have ever done .
  4. thats the keepers house just there mate ,the fir wood is to the left of my head in that small valley,i cleared all the rabbits off of that patch before they planted it , its all ways been alive with rabbits i knew the pest officer who had the shout in the 50s ,you could listen to his yarns all day long .used to lamp from saltby? up to ponton ,the rabbits used to run into the rabbit fence along side the railway lines, one night my mate George had one in each hand what he caught and the dog had one too,on that stretch you could knock over 50 real quick ,happy days.
  5. been rooting through some old photos ,i had some good bags here many years ago and as far as i know ,there still getting plenty now , had a few 80s and once had 108 [ferreting ] we used to lamp it every night we could, i wish we had these electric cameras in those days then i could do some bragging, Tomo tells me some lads from Mansfield do it now ,good luck to them if they catch half what me and George topped ,they will have a lifetime of memories.
  6. i'am older than most on here ,sure you get aches and pains but who dont ,lifes great,i can eat or drink what i like ,never felt fitter ,the mrs is 60 looks about thirty got plenty of money and the old man still stands up.
  7. out this morning local two for me ,two for the fox,as i was walking home i met the farmer who was having a very loud chat with two lads who he had copt coursing ,one looked about 50 ,and the other 20 ,the old un took his bollicking, as you should ,the young ,had a bit of slobber ,as they do , he ended up on his arse ,with a drop of claret dripping out his shonker , on the spot fine .
  8. Yes mate ,, accident when i was a kid ,if i tried to open one of those traps i would be on tablets for a week and no driving .
  9. i set some bgs in a fence lie yesterday allso a few snares , when i picked up i found i had left my trap setter at home ,so the rabbits had to wear them home , i had 9 in the bgs 1 in a fenn and 9 in snares a fox had taken one from a snare, but i don't begrudge him a meal ,back on saturday ,going to bolt some for the gaffers son.
  10. i was back this morning ,set some traps and a few snares. . the mrs took my photo when she dropped me off , i'am on triple strenth gout tablets , and might wander.
  11. i think a buzzard set the ball rolling , i've had two others damaged by these birds in this field, i'am sure that a fox or badger were not involved as the rabbit seems to be dismantaled rarther than torn apart ,there are mink in the area ,allso there may be a cat living there ,thats gone feral ,close to where that rabbit was caught ,were two other rabbits in snares they had not been injured ,although this land is keepered and watched over the farm next to it is not ,there are a lot of rabbits in this area and sometimes people will ferret on the roadside boundary and a ferret may have been lost
  12. not bothering with melton again mate ,last ones in there made a pound each less 15% commission. two pound for the car park and two gallons of diesil , not worth the bother .
  13. I was out today ferreting ,it was hard going ,so i gave it best and got off early, i walked back to my lift via an old rabbit fence , in the past i have trapped and snared a lot of rabbits on this fence and put the pictures up on here , i will give it another go soon ,as i only walked down it for a 100 yards and saw at least 20 good killing runs, the fence runs alongside both sides of the road for half a mile, and its loaded.
  14. was out this morning, the mrs had to drive me because i was full of legal drugs, iwas out for a good bag ,as i had a good order , wern't to be ,struggeled all morning for eight , lost three ,and had a rough dig ,that i bailed out on when the ferret shown ,theres a massive warren on this place thats allways good for double figures, but a tree had blown down ,right across the middle of it ,so that got left ,called the mrs at 12 ,she picked me up at few minutes later , i let her hang the rabbits, while i went bed. heres my next job snaring this fence .
  15. i've said , puncture marks on the neck, look at the snare ,its got a stop fixed to it i did moll ,nothing to see, if it was a fox there would be bite marks and broken ribs, there are none. there are no badgers in the area, the water table is to high , saying that ,one could have walked on ,but i doubt it.
  16. that looks like it could be hard work at times mate ,but that never killed anyone enjoy your sport where ever you are, like you ,i have been going the same places for 50 years and never tire of them ,my granddad took me ,i take my grandkids, circle of life,eh .
  17. well spotted mate theres no pulling the wool over your eyes. who let the comedian out of his cage?????????? it was remarked that it might have been done with a knife read before you reply..............eh MARDY ARSE.
  18. well spotted mate theres no pulling the wool over your eyes.
  19. had a few last night ,including this one , the rabbit was in two halves, both bits were still attached to the snare wire there are puncture marks behind the ear no other rabbit had been touched
  20. i set a few snares in the field next to my house just before dinner ,when i had set the last one, i looked back down the line and saw that i had a rabbit, i walked back to the other end of the field to pick it up and found, that it was not in a snare ,mystery,as it was not there when i first went into the field ,the rabbit was still warm ,so what i think happened was while i was setting the first snares ,the dog must have pegged one in the hedge, then brought it back to me stupid dog , she should have put it in the bag
