  1. Cheers! Some good info there, be very usefull to a beginner especially!
  2. Say she'd look the part when mounted!
  3. In Eire, under the Wildlife Act 1976 (Approved Traps, Snares and Nets) only traps designed to be 'humane' and cause instant death or irreversible unconsciousness are allowed to be imported, sold or deployed. We're lucky then, in that we don't have to wring our hands and toss and turn through the night, worrying if this, or that time tested trap fits the bill. We have none of this nit picky STAO bollox. Fenn traps are officially sanctioned. So, shit like Sawyer, Imbra and Juby ~ not to mention the Body Grips can be taken as a forgone conclusion. Anyway; I know the law. And I don't d
  4. OK Matt, worst case scenario....you set a trap, in a correct position. Everythings legal. it's on a wire into the water. BUT the mink (or whatever quarry) is 'foul' caught, not a perfect kill as can happen from time to time. So it's a pad catch or some other bad catch. And it gets into the water and it actually drowns. Obviously it's all over in less than thirty seconds. But, the facts are it's drown. How would you stand then?I don't want to play devil's advocate, but i think working on worst case scenario is always best... well if you look at worse case scenario, what if you don't use a wire
  5. but would it not be deemed to cause suffering prior to its death, that would be a breech of the animal welfare act 2006 Not in my opinion! First of all your useing approved traps which are designed to quickly dispatch the targeted species! Secondly, who's to prove that the mink e.t.c was still alive by the time it hit the water! I use drowners all the time! It's seldom i have a live mink in a trap, so more humane as far as i'm concerned!
  6. Can see great potential there Pete, for snaring fox's and even mink trapping! I'm taking notes here!;-)
  7. No use for these traps in this part of the world! What would you use them for?
  8. This is the sort of thing i'm on about Lads! I should have made it clearer from the start, but turned out to be an interesting thread all the same! I may just go with trial and error till i get it right!
  9. Thanks for sharing the photo's lad! Nice Job, but i was hoping to use what i have in the shed, the brackets will suit better for box's!
  10. No something more on the lines of those killer clips that can be got on line! Suppose I could buy a couple, and just copy them!
  11. Yea understand Pete, and I'm sure it works as good as any other method! Was thinking more on the lines of the bracket type mainly due to the fact that I have a piece of tin in the shed I could make use of, and they don't look very complicated to make! Also, if I made up a bunch of them, they'd be handy to store e.t.c!
  12. Lads have any of you made your own bodygrip mounts, and if so, what are the dimentions you use for them?
  13. Nice idea lad but not practicle! My arms are tired just looking at it! Same idea with smaller, lighter material would be a better option!
  14. As above, and if so, what had you it staked to and with what? Feckin lousy if it was nicked!
  15. I use lard meself, does the job!
  16. Yea keep it simple, speed dip or black mat spray paint! A can a paint will go a long way and no real need to camo them up!
  17. Maybe i've lost the plot, or just have too much time on my hands Pete! I don't know, just like making my own stuff, be it fox snares, bait or trap swivels e.t.c! Seem to spend more time in the shed than the house lately! Besides, i don't even notice the smell any more, can't say the same about her indoors though!:-)
  18. I've done similar with mink except i rub the actual mink around the other sets and that works a treat! made up some gland lure recently and i'll give that a go next year if it turns out o.k!
  19. Where'd ya buy the gear after lad, locks e.t.c? Your nicely set up now to make some snares with ease!
  20. Yea i would agree with most on this! Mice or even very young rats! Caught a large rat in a friends loft along with seven very small rats all caught with mouse traps! The mouse traps were actually left in the loft by the owner some time before i went up there, and so i just set them whilst passing!
