  1. Carlovian, Do you think these 20lb Bull terriers were bred into the early white dogs? That 20lb brindle coloured dog in 1970, was that considered a miniture english bull terrier? That was the question of the original topic. There were also miniture staffs around in the 1980's. From memory they became a sort of mascot in the skinhead culture. I will dig out some photos of these. If miniture staff or miniture English bull was used in terrier lines the attributes would show through the same way. If we use our eyes we will see these attributes. Domed head, small eyes, prick
  2. Usually the written word and photographs are all we can base our opinions on for early strains, none of us were around in 1870. Hinks early dogs may have been smaller before 1860's but the dog that he made popular was larger. Hinks "Tarquin" 1860's (Cropped ears) "Tarquin" to me looks like a dog that weighs a bit more than 20 to 25 lbs. Hinks promoted his strain as Domed headed (no stop), pure white fighting dogs. Not sure they ever competed for anything except rosettes in the show ring. He was not the only person breeding Bull / terriers back then. Where they called Cheshire
  3. The Cheshire terrier was a name used before the EBT name became popular. Like so many other regional names it was lost at the inclusion of the dogs in the KC registration. There are preserved specimens in the TRING museum in England. The photograph is labelled Bull Terriers but they are not the type that Hinks made popular. His were in the 40 to 50 lb range. These stuffed dogs look more in the 20 to 25 lb range.(1900) If these dogs were crossed into white terrier lines it would explain the attributes that appear even in todays dogs. But the reality is men have been breeding in Bull bl
  4. You can buy it online from the United States. The postage is pricy but if you buy enough tablets the cost is reasonable.
  5. This is advice to all I.W.T.F. members. Keep away from this post. If anyone needs information regarding the I.W.T.F. Contact us directly at www.IWTF.ie.
  6. Deepest condolences to his family and friends. Tam was a great leader for terriermen on these islands as members of the I.W.T.F. discovered over the last few years. A terrible loss for all of us. R.I.P.
  7. Albert, We are looking forward to working together again next year.
  8. Must pick up a copy Albert. Thank you for your help at both fairs. P3D.
  9. Tommy, you are probably right. I have not checked in a long while. That would make the cost today about 125 sterling ?
  10. LOOKS good but i would worry about a dog lifting its leg and pissing down the side which would go under the plate and stink and rot the shed, i know its turned up at the sides but i would guess a dog would be taller than the sides and they would piss over the side. These photos were taken while it was being built, Sides will be marine ply with 50mm insulation behind. The marine ply will overlap on the outside of the turned up edge. Sealed with thin galvanised sheet nailed to it. Any liquid will flow down the walls onto the floor and out the door. The idea is that I can flush the she
  11. how much did that sheds worth cost you? 140 euro installed ( 100 sterling approx)
  12. This worked for me PK. The yard had a good slope for cleaning but I needed to put a shed in one corner. I wanted a space to keep pups or a sick dog locked inside. That would mean that the floor would need to be hosed down each day. The plate is called "Diamond plate", it is non slip and used in industry for platforms. It is fairly cheap and any good fabricator in your area could weld the shape to suit your shed. It has turned up sides and back. The front is shaped to divert water out the door. Once the shape is correct the whole thing is hot dip galvanized. (Zinc plated)
  13. BD Hunter, Go to the website http://www.iwtf.ie. There is enough information to get you up to date. Use the contact page if you need more. P3D.
  14. Albert, Sam, This provides a great opportunity to get the I.W.T.F's message out to the wider sporting community. Hopefully the weather is good on the day and the public get a chance to see country sports thriving as they should. Ger.
  15. IMO Any working type dog is usually not a great looking dog. It is when breeders start to think that they can have working quality AND looks that dogs run into trouble. If you were going for open heart surgery tomorrow morning, you would not care if the surgeon was good looking. You would only care that he/she could do their job. To digging men the beauty is seeing the dog work. When I see a dog after a good result, covered in earth, he looks good to me. Now before the show brigade start jumping up and down. Is there a good looking dog out there that works well...yes But the combination is r
  16. The early Sealyham from Wales was a different type than the KC version today. Below are some of the early breeding stock used to develop them. Bigger, Rougher and higher on the leg. Duck. the Dam of "Ivo Challenger 1910" a famous Sealyham Stud dog. Huntsman another famous Sealyham stud dog Champion Chawston Bess and Champian Chawston Betty 1910 Corgi may have entered the blood lines but it was probably earlier than 1850's. The original Corgi appears to have been a cur type of dog. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17. CBX, If you can find drums big enough they could be made for any dog. The principle of insulating the inner drum would be the same. P3D
  18. Brockdog, The American kit looks like a good set-up. If those can not be bought over here in Europe maybe we could make our own. Add a couple of improvements and save some money as well. Use the open top Drum with a quick connect tension band instead of the Tight head drum. This allows easy access to a terrier inside and makes it simple to clean. This is what it might look like! it would be possible to insulate them so condensation would not be a problem. IMO the insulation allows the dog to Thrive. The uninsulated allow the dog to Survive. Fit a 110litre drum inside a 210 li
  19. Great story, happens everyone at some stage, second collar switched on somewhere Happy new year M.
  20. tiger82, I have followed this site for the last couple of years and I have found valuable information on it. Do a search on antibiotics, terrier history, etc and you will find information that has been properly researched. The antibiotic info alone has saved me money. The mans opinions will not appeal to everyone, but who's opinion does? It's a good read. ATB P3D.
  21. The Club is a credit to ye lads. It's encouraging to see terriermen organise themselves. A positive approach to the work ahead. After today G. those cards could be very useful ! P3D.
  22. R.A.W. IMO you are right to improve on the kennel shown. This is what we all should do, question and challange kennel layouts. Do not accept conventional designs, ask "why is it built like that" or more importantly "what is best for the dog". Google this guys work, not all of his ideas will apply to working terriers (the chew stuff would last about 20 minutes with my dogs) But it shows a different way to look at how animals are housed. Comfortable Quarters for Dogs in Research Institutions - Robert Hubrecht This is just my view at the moment, I could see in another mans yard
  23. Steady start so far M. The big pup is showing all the promise that his breeding can give him. Talk soon!!

  25. I don't know what you are talking about! or else I would have to go into a witness protection program!! - But the dogs do look similar. Just wondering if some part of Hickory's line had started here.
