  1. I guess its your call fella....if you have the time, money, space and you fancy the dog then have a crack at it but if not don't feel as though you have to mate afterall you didn't breed it or buy it and stick it in that kennel so you shouldn't feel guilty if the dogs not for you. ATB
  2. Welcome to the fun house fella ATB
  3. Bad times mate...sorry to hear that. As said they all react a little different but give him a bit of time to adjust and hopefully he'll be ok. AB

  5. Knocks the range of your lamp down alot mate..Very good for getting close to your quarry if they are lamp shy but we tend to whip them off when we are racing. This is on big land though probably ok if your on smaller fields with fences and headge rows. ATB

  7. Well mate ,Ive done more thn my fair share and 99% of it has been on big land and with top class quarry. Firstly. The chap stated that it was five mins plus and that is what most folk have answered to why call the bloke a liar unless you have a reason to back it up. Secondly. Nobody was trying to say that the like of foxy and lucky were anything other than top class dogs and yes they may well ahve taken this long to take hares but as I stated in my post this would have been single handed and not doubled up which is were the doubt on the other dogs caperbility is coming into this arguem

  9. What would be the advantage of putting greyhound into a gundog?........... A more versatile athletis animal perhaps, now if I had a pound for every time I seen labs etc have gates opened for them or be lifted over a fence I'd be a rich man for sure. back to these shit dogs that you have seen again mate.....6 bar gate no problem here.... But stop and think , the question is basically about lurchers versus gundogs (simplified I know) your comparing them to your labs, might anyone else be (me) comparing their lurchers to the labs they've seen. Answer honestly how many sh
  10. Beat me to it Rocky1....As said two dogs on 1 hare should realy be done with one way or another inside 5 mins.If its taking the old dog that long doubled up I would suggest the pup would be better running on his own.Don't get me wrong the best of dogs can take this long to get the job done on the right quarry and the right day but this is single handed not doubled up. Just my opinion but recon you would be better off resting your pup right up and then taking things a bit slower and with either a better lead dog or on his own as others have said. ATB
  11. The whole thing mate..Try to capsuleate it to the collar mate and try to keep out moisture from the whole transmitter as well as you possibly can bud ATB
  12. Most of us on here that dig to our dogs and probably everybody that has done it for any amount of time will have dug to the Mrk1 many many times mate. True they are not as reliable as the belman and flint and have nothing like the range but they are still perfectly acceptable pieces off kit providing they are in a good state of repair, in calibration and you stick to sencible earths unless you are experianced. They do suffer from the damp but this can be reduced by securley tapeing up the transmiter on the collar with electrical tape which I would suggest you do every time you enter a dog wi
  13. but that begs the question why would you want a gun dog with extra pace as presumably they are all ready bred right for the job,or are they, dont know iv lost myself now Would this not technicaly be a lurcher ????? ATB have heard of a few of this type over the years but they certainly not common,i asked about gry/lab long time ago but people were very negative prob due to the likely litter waistage,to heavy I recon your right mate but would be interesting to see what a light weight long dog say Saluki x Greyhound first cross and one of the lighter weight field trial

  16. Fine looking animal that one fella....Looks in top notch condition to....A real credit to you. ATB
  17. Your bang on there mate.I have a kennels of 10 dogs and have had roughly this amount for years but even in times when things have been tight (like most of us hit from time to time) my dogs have always had what they needed ,been in good condition and warm and dry. The food certainly dosn't have to be posh or expencive on comparison and working dogs should be able to put a bit of dinner in their own bowl so to speak to contribute towards their upkeep. I can honestly say that if a time ever came that for whatever reason I could not afford to look after any of my dogs they would be given to g
  18. As said the actual Mrk2 (Carrot type) will only pick up the mark 2 collars but many people call the later upgraded Mrk1 (grey knocker box type) a Mrk 2 as this is stamped inside and if thats the one you have it will pick up any deben collar. ATB
  19. To be honest mate the hunting up issue is down to the training and entering of a dog rather than down to the breeding of dog.If you get the basics right and dont try to run before you can walk then there shouldnt be an issue with hunting up whatever cross you decide to go with. 100% Recal should be the first skill mastered with any pup and if you acheive this the rest is easy (or at least EASYER) IMHO ATB
  20. all slowing up now.....gunna be a long ol summer :(

  21. Well thats up to you but consider what he could carry back to your own ferrets? if you have 5jills and he sorts them out for the next 5yrs thats got to be cheaper than jill jabs in the long run Y.I.S Leeview what about a popular stud dog say luckie or a dog who one cruffs do you get all the 100s or 1000s of bitches he cover to have a s.t.i check of course you dont !!!!!! tell you the truth I wonder why I bothered asking on here some times. theres so many ( not all ) who always shots everyone down. "TENNERS A BIT STRONG ! " try a FIVER" !!!!!!!! Im not a rich man by a long sho
