  1. I run one at the moment mate and to be honest he's turned out better than I thought as a bit of an all rounder.I brought him for the big fields in the fens (daytime) and he is very good at his trade but he also dose ok on the lamp after the bunnys. Obviously he,s no night time world beater he tends to try and use his legs rather than his brain but he's certainly a tryer and always puts on a nice show with the longer slips. He was a pain in the arse until he was two and then he just seemed to click now probably one of the easyest longdogs to work that I've known very honest and he will walk at h
  2. Happy days mate...well chuffed for you Happy new year mate ATB
  3. Salt water morning and night then either iodene, terrimysin or equine purple spray when the salt water has dried has always done the trick for me mate.Simlar to one of the other posters on this thread my salukixgreyhound split one three weeks ago and this was the worst I've seen but its now like new with salt water and purple spray and he'll be back running as soon as this bloody frost goes. Good luck mate ATB
  4. Thats some spot on advice there "fraggle" good on yer fella. As he says mate ferreting is by far the best way to get in with a farmer with a rabbit problem as they don't particularly want lads walking their land with guns as it disrupts livestock and most shooting is taken but also they don't realy want lads they don't know walking their property at night wether it be with dogs or whatever. This is a trust thing and farmers don't tend to be the most trusting people on first approach but if you can get in by ferreting and prove yourself this will almost certainly lead to a bit of lamping wit
  5. Proper job mate.she looks a real belter.all the best with her fella ATB
  6. Bad times mate....Please don't think I was knocking yours or anybodys dog mate, just saying that's the best looking one I've seen thats all. As i said I've never realy had anyting to do with them other than some lads I know that do a bit of ratting with a couple only that one looks as if it was born for the spade. Like I said mate no offence it was meant purley as a complement to a nice dog. ATB
  7. Yes mate I recon he needs "telling" easyer to stop it now than later when he thinks its ok.It will only get worse if not checked mate. ATB
  8. That has to be the best looking plummer dog I've ever seen on here "fireman" or anywere Come to mention it. I must confess to not knowing a lot about the breed mate but that one looks on another level to any i've seen. credit to you mate ATB
  9. Had this once before several years ago mate.the dog had had three days work out of four(I know this was a bit much before I get slated but it wasn't to hard work and I was young . I'm just being honest) Anyway I did take him to the vet as I have a very understanding one and he said it was down to his blood sugar level being very low. He had been on antibiotics a couple of weeks before due to puncture wounds and my vet said this could have affected it. My dog had a couple of weeks rest and never showed another sighn of trouble and I'm glad to say he's still with me today at over 13 years old
  10. Top bloke....They don't make many like that anymore ATB
  11. Stick with it fella it should come right in the end.The cross that you have chosen are known to be game little fellas but any dog is what you make it mate. Scruff it ,a little shake and pleanty of eye contact and I'm sure it will ome good in no time.I have let two pups one each out of my last two litters go to local pet homes to very good friends simply because they have waited a long time to get one of my pups and I knew they would have a first class home, ones now 1yr old and one is two and they are both craking family pets and I see them both at least weekly. mine are parsons x patterdale b
  12. If the bitch is a gooden and the dog is showing potential what have you got to loose mate? run it on.It's a good looking pup fella. ATB
  13. Then he's probably old enough to have a go then fella.Take it steady and see how it goes mate just remember rome wasn't built in a day and he will be fairly clueless for a start so take your time buddy and don't expect a worldbeater at the first earth and hopfully he will serve you well for years to come mate. Is it the dog in your avatar pic mate? If so he looks a little belter. ATB
  14. If you have the chance mate then letting him see a couple of digs and dropping him in at the end certainly cant hurt mate and would most likley help as it will give the dog some idear and also get him chomping at the bit so to speak but if you dont have acsess to an experianced earth dog as long as he has enough savey and is old enough then if he's got it he's got it and as long as its an earth that is as easy as you can find let him have a go and drop him in. You don't say how old he is mate? Don't rush him hey, many a good dog ruined because they were entered before they were ready and payed
  15. All the best mate Welcome aboard
  16. The ferret and purse net method is certainly the easy way to get started in rabbit hunting mate.Wont cost you an arm and a leg to get started,No licence needed and your alot more likley to get permision to ferret than to shoot at least for a start. Hope this helps mate and welcome ATB
  17. Hello mate and welcome in ATB
  18. Not at all mate, hares are more common now than they have been for years. Its a politics thing fella. Welcome in anyway bud ATB
  19. They are like anything else mate you get good ones and bad ones.Only problem is they tend to be exactly that you don't tend to find many medioca ones they tend to be awsome or chocolate fire gaurds. I would suggest that the people that praise them have seen the good ones and the people that knock them simply havn't thats all However although I do like the dogs myself if i wanted a fox dog I'm affraid I would have to say that as a rule they are probably not the most consistant. You would be better of with a good old colliexgreyhound Only my opinon mate but its an honest one. atb
  20. take your bullshtie elsewhere,? it was you that come here trying to ruin a good thread, , your a joke, well thats what your mum told me, , grow up you little prick and feck of, , Not sure what sort of super duper running dogs he's got fella but if it's that scrawny x breed thing in his profile pic it would hardley be worth taking home.Although you could always feed it to ASBO ha it wouldn't touch the sides ATB
  21. No mate i don't think they would look right on your disco...send em here they would look much better on mine ATB
  22. I'm on mate, looks pretty good .Best of luck with it ATB
  23. Don't kid yourself lad I started off in the game over 25years ago and to many on here im mearly an aprentice and most if not all will tell you that however long ago we started you had to gain the trust of the landowner before permision was granted,Just the same as it is today. We have stacks of kids this age around here and most have there own bits of permision many passed on to them by people like myself that are lucky enough to have pleanty but always under the strict understanding that they are not to let us down. But most of these lads are happy to have their permision to ferret and lamp t
