  1. Hi Andy, Thanks for the positive feedback. I am not looking to sell them as they are easy to make yourself. I just wanted to pass on a good idea I saw on You Tube on an excellent forum where other people share information I find useful. Dave
  2. Hi Folks, I have been doing some mole catching on some re-seeding and my normally reliable mixture of Talpex & Talpa mole traps which work great on turf are struggle to deal with the moles as I am getting a lot of sprung traps. Therefore I tried some scissor traps too with immediate success with probably my oldest and most battered scissor trap. I remember some saying it’s good to use a mixture of traps and its good advice. Therefore I fancy getting a few new scissor traps to add to my arsenal and want to know who sells the best quality ones as I have seen a few rubbish ones. The
  3. Hi Davy, Yep I've had a pop at the knob too Cheers, Dave.
  4. Good piece on pigeon shooting using decoys :-)
  5. Attached are pics of the finished article. Had a quick go with it last night using my Police Tech LED Lenser and bagged a nice bunny at 30 yards using the sticks sweet as a nut.
  6. Apologies if this video has been posted below but its a simple way of making your own shooting sticks:- Therefore I went to B&Q today and got 2 x 1.8m garden stakes (£3.98):- http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9436534&fh_view_size=10&fh_start_index=10&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=garden+stakes&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1285365114525&isSearch=true 1m length of pipe insulation (£0.77) :- http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9273770&fh_v
  7. I used to go years ago when sensibly priced and it was the best place to buy stuff. However I get all I want online using forums like this to research before buying rather than taking a punter at the show and hoping for the best. Online is much cheaper and even more so when I add in the £17 to get in, petrol to get there and the rip-off prices for food.
  8. Magnum Trap Company for their Talpa mole traps which are basically Talpex but with handles to help setting them:- http://www.magnumtrap.com/moletraps.html You have to buy al least 10 which I did and they are great. Dave.
  9. A good point. I set the Fenn's "hard" so it takes something heavy to spring them and the design of the box is such the squirrels have to drop down onto the trap which is enough. I've had 6 boxes in operation since Jan and the count is 30 squirrels + 1 rat which climbed 6 feet just to get itself killed - no birds and no foul catches. Also the "bird box style" does mean it looks less like a trap and being 6ft off the ground means foxes and badger can't run off with my traps if the fancy eating the dead squirrel inside. Well it works for me and there are noticeably less quirrels about by the
  10. Before the internet and great forums like this then game fair shows were the best place to get stuff and they used to be reasonably priced. However I see Weston Park is now £17 so I would rather spend that money buying online and use the day itself to go out shooting/trapping etc. I would rather be doing than watching.
  11. Hi, I caught another squirrel in a Mr 4 Fenn placed in one of my purpose built box traps so thought I would post a picture More pics are in a thread about squirrel box traps in the Snare and Trap designs section. Thanks, Dave.
  12. Hi, I came across this website which I thought fellow forum readers might find useful:- http://www.freemaptools.com/area-calculator.htm'>http://www.freemaptools.com/area-calculator.htm Specifically there is an option for accurately calculating the size of on area such as a field so if you are doing a mole job based on acreage then this might help:- http://www.freemaptools.com/area-calculator.htm Cheers, Dave.
  13. Last month I caught 6 on a patch less than 1/2 acres which impressed the farmer no end :-) Wish I had took some pics
  14. Hi Folks, I wonder if anyone on the forum was catching moles in the areas affect by the summer floods of 2007 or indeed any of the floods we seem to be getting more of. If so what happened to the moles in the fields that were submerged? Did they get wiped out or did they escape. After the water receeded what mole activity occurred. I would have thought that floods would wipe them out in 1000s but there seem to be more moles than ever. Dunno just something that occurred to me in an idle moment. Cheers, Dave.
  15. Hi All, I have being ringing the Magnum Trap Company using the number on their website for the last couple of days as I want to order 10 Talpa traps but keep going through to answer phone. I have also emailed them but no response yet. Anyone know if they are on holiday or something? Cheers, Dave.
  16. Also http://www.ratbait.co.uk for genuine Talpex traps
  17. Yep bamboo canes for me too - cheap, strong and light
  18. I just got 10 genuine Talpex traps from this company:- http://www.ratbait.co.uk/ Buying 10 meant they worked out at £8 each which I don’t know is a good or a bad price but I was more interested in getting the the genuine article. I have a couple of orders with them and they are good. Dave.
  19. I just got some new Talpex traps from this company:- http://www.ratbait.co.uk They are the "real deal" with Talpex stamped on the bar and as someone else said the spring would not be out of place on a Fenn. Just worked out the easiest and safest way to set them so cant wait to get going with them. They aren't the cheapest so I rang before ordering and the chap assumed me they were the real ones and they are. You only get what you pay for. I have also got some T Rex rat traps and mini T Rex mouse traps from them and again quality products and arrived quick so I would recommend this
  20. Yes I use wooden stakes too which blend in nicely.
  21. Another great video - you have even captured that "crunch" sound of the pellet striking its prey which is always a reassuring noise
