  1. If I find what I think is a travel run and its got running water in it I personally think its a great place to set a barrel trap as the mole will want to get through it as quickly as possible so hit the trap harder.
  2. Hi All, With many parts of the UK under water what effect does everyone think this will have on the moles in these areas? Wipe them out or b*gg*r all effect? I reckon the latter as I seem to remember that areas that had previous flooded saw mole back working only weeks later. Likewise I wonder what the levels of bovine TB will be in the Somerset Levels once the water recede assuming the floods have hammered the badger population. atb, Dave.
  3. I should have added I did have gloves on so the "bare hands" was a figure of speech as I know their saliva has toxins in which paralyse earthworms plus the soil is full of nasty stuff.
  4. Hi Chaps, I know a few of the lads on here have already done this but I managed to catch my first mole today with my bare hands as he ran through a tunnel I had just opened. I was lucky as I saw the soil move so was ready for him. The old chap told me he missed one years ago in the same situation so nice to go one better than him. Also my daughter was on her first mole catching job with me and witnessed the event. She now thinks I do it all the time - lol !! atb, Dave.
  5. Yes I would normally agree Matt and would always use a Talpex or a Duffus trap but faced with a garden with zero grass and was trying to set a trap under paving slabs so wanted to have another option plus I like the challenge of trying a different traps anyway. Dave.
  6. Thanks for the feedback I ordered some NoMol traps today and whilst talking to the chap I am getting them from he said that he has more success setting them with the tongs up rather than with the tongs down as recommended on the promotion video. Which way do you chaps set them please and why? Dave.
  7. Hi, I did a mole job today where the customer had completely gravelled and paved his back garden I managed to get a talpex and a couple of barrels set but got me thinking that either Nomol or Trapline moles traps who have been handy. For those who have tried them or ideally both types of traps which would you recommend as I want to add a few of them to the arsenal. atb, Dave.
  8. ... or maybe you never get asked back again by a customer !!! Mole by their very nature do re-infest from adjoining land.
  9. Mine got wiped out in 1998 by rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) and never really recovered :-(
  10. Thanks for all the replies lads Yes I can recommend the Akan sticks and I plan to use them when me and my mate go lamping foxes soon as he can use them with his .222 Bruno. Although they are telescopic I will have them pre-set in a comfortable shooting position for him to make them quicker to use. atb, Dave
  11. Hi Manco, Thanks for your reply. I have tried them and am well chuffed with them as it means I can shoot despite my arm. In fact they are a more stable platform with one good arm than whatever I could achieve before with 2 good arms :-) I can just about get my bad arm onto the stock now which means I am rock steady. Also resting my rifle on them means I can wait in ambush for ages too. You summary pretty much describes what I've found and I wondering if they are the same product albeit with a different badge maybe and at a more reasonable price? atb, Dave.
  12. I spoke to the chap at Swillington's and have now ordered one. If anyone is interested I will post again to say what I think about it. atb, Dave.
  13. Yes that's what I was thinking but a big difference on price i.e. a lot cheaper :-)
  14. Hi Roger, Thanks for replying and I agree mate but cant find any details of them on the Internet hence my post. I've even email Akah themselves in both English and German but no response. Its really odd as normally if you want to find details about stuff on the Internet you can but with these sticks I've drawn a big fat blank. atb, Dave.
  15. Ops sorry incomplete link - should have been:- http://www.swillingtonshootingsupplies.co.uk/store/product/11750/Quick-Tripod-Trigger-Stick
  16. Hi, I am looking at looking to investing in a set of tripod trigger sticks as currently I am getting over a broken arm. I have looked at the Primos ones which look good but pricey and found these on the Swillington website. I emailed them and they said they weren't Primos but from a firm called Akah from Germany but I cant find any more details on them via Google so wondered if anyone on here any info please?. Here is the link:- http://www.swillingt...-Trigger-Stick/ atb, Dave.

  18. Well done Ray - quality catch in a quality trap I wonder who showed you how to best set a Talpex - joking apart I am pleased for mate as you have a great lawn so it will be a very silly mole who tries to move in now. atb, Dave.
  19. cheers mate. actually less pain than i thought although starting to ache as the bruising comes out and everything starts to mend. will be back moling in 4 - 6 weeks.
  20. DVD was a good watch mate Unfortunately I broken my arm yesterday so wont be trapping for a while.
  21. Thanks lads The 2nd one was the best as it proved the 1st one was no fluke. First time I have trapped in this area so I would love more jobs in and around to see if silver moles are common to the area which I think they might. I will keep you posted. atb Dave.
  22. Cheers lads for the comments - it was a buzz and even better I had the customer with me who was impressed too.
