  1. Like whippet I have never owned a Plummer, so dont know how good there nose is but all the other terrier breeds have a nose that's more than capable of doing whats required of it.. As iv said its all well and good having a plummer with the nose of the deepest of scenting hound but if it ain't got the heart to do what terriers were bred for it ain't worth nish.. We're drifting a bit, I'm not interested who's got the better nose out of the two, all I'm stating is a fell type of a decent standard can & will hunt all legal quarry, wether that be today or 30 years ago, the same cant as often b
  2. "fells don't have the drive or nose of plummers" fecking heard it all now!!!!!! Lol lol lol lol You saying that fell,s have a nose as good as a plummer , now ive heard it all, no terrier as a breed/type comes close, buster. I quoted the sentence the lad wrote, as he claimed a fell doesn't have the nose or drive to hunt rats as good as a plummer, lol, it's a pretty poor terrier that can't mark a rat in a hole or under farm rubbish what ever the breed,, it can't be said its a good test of any decent terrier.. One things for certain a fell can hunt rats a damn sight better than a Plummer
  3. "fells don't have the drive or nose of plummers" fecking heard it all now!!!!!! Lol lol lol lol
  4. Dont be getting all upset on us!! Maybe it is fella but it's a forum for discussion, and it ain't wandered as far from the original question as a lot of threads do :-)
  5. Ehhhh???? You took that statement a bit to literally fella, no one mentioned the dark side ;-)
  6. If you know the ground your working you don't need a super collar to prevent it, just use a wee bit of your grey matter.... As for digging on, well that's just one of the many risks of the game is it not?? No sorry sir, can't put a dog in there, my dog might die from lack of air, lol lol lol
  7. Lol lol lol is that not the whole fecking idea of having a all rounder?? Going out and taking what ever comes??
  8. Hmmm would all your "recipes for disaster" not simply be prevented by using a locator ?? Not rocket science..
  9. Care to enlighten us a bit more on your thoughts?? Pats were firstly bred for earth work and usually have a tendency to enter early not a good thing if you are after a bushing or ratting dog ..Plummers are very adaptable but you would generally really look hard to find digging stock Why would a dog that entered early not be a good thing wether your looking for a ALL rounder or not? Surely if you were ratting at a farm and bumped a mink in a ditch at the back you'd expect it to switch. Or if you were bushing you'd expect a dog to go to ground wether the quarry was pushed in or cold marked
  10. Any one that's worth giving kennel space too..
  11. Care to enlighten us a bit more on your thoughts??
  12. A college valley lad, lol, lovely part of the country, welcome
  13. Fair play fella, only your mrs can tell you what to do with your money, lol, but honestly when you've a bit of spare time look it up on the net..
  14. IMO the only thing out of order is having to pay for it, snaring in the eyes of anti orgs is up there with hunting with a pack of hounds, if we are seen to be making a effort to get "trained" to minimise the stress caused to animals & prevent the capture of non target species then it can surely be a good thing, let's face it if pro orgs went against the course we would probably be in a lot worse situation than we find ourselves in now.. Is it right, probably not, is it of benifit for the long term preservation of a vital part of pest control, most certainly yes.
  15. Yes they do work that's why there's no need to do it year after year after year.. So yes it is worth paying for one but only badly informed folk who won't spend a bit of time researching the subject your discussing will be daft enough to do it yearly ;-)
  16. All the dogs iv owned or worked with get there first jabs and that's it & touch wood they have never had a problem, spend a hour or two on the net & look into the studies etc.. The yearly jab is just to line your vets pocket with yet a few more quid..
  17. I can just imagine you sending your whip in to bolt it, lol, top job again fella
  18. The one, the guy that did ours knew what he was talking about but having said that it ain't rocket science, but iv my bit of paper saying I can set a snare in a empty grass field, so im happy, lol,
  19. Richard walker is part of "bruce&walker" I think, and as far as I know he didn't design any rods for hardy
  20. One of the best iv seen in here, no matter who took it..
  21. I know it's for the greater good & think it can only benifit fieldsports by everyone going on it, but the one I went on a few years ago (not with sacs) was really poor, there was 30 odd full time keepers from the area and you would have thought we hadnt ever set a snare between us the way they went on.. Is it now compulsory to get one?? When I did mine they were talking about it being on the horizon if I remember right?? Hope you fill them ok..
  22. Haha no one said it was plain & simple but saves you from being stuck next to the same 2 guns every drive.. Having said that a decent host/keeper would have a pile of the printed off so each gun gets a card when he draws his first peg in the morning.. First number is one drawn 1-2-4-6-8-7 2-4-6-8-7-5 3-1-2-4-6-8 4-6-8-7-5-3 5-3-1-2-4-6 6-8-7-5-3-1 7-5-3-1-2-4 8-7-5-3-1-2 ;-)
  23. When a gun reaches no8 they then go to no7 next. & when a gun reaches no1 they then go to no2 next.. Il hunt my sheet out and put it up when I get a chance
