  1. yeah, we used to have a homemade box for our permission, and a money bag with cord around the top, for when we were where we should'nt, half a dozen nets in one pocket and ferret in a bag in the other pocket lol
  2. talking to a chap the other day, swears on kennelling his dogs outdoors, says it makes better dogs. My dogs have always lived indoors, do you think it makes a big difference?
  3. that's the problem, the rabbit will always run to an obstacle, i run my old colliex at a rabbit on a local country park once the only thing for 2-300 yds was a park bench, you guessed it rabbit headed straight for it and flew under, the lurcher tried to follow. I swear the ringing from the bench echoed around the park, it proper floored her. she was a bit shook but no harm done, but it is a horrible feeling
  4. i've had a lightforce for probably 12/13 years and it's still going strong, hard to beat realy
  5. Nice pup mate, collie crosses are hard to beat
  6. i bought a 7/8 greyhound/collie x standard poodle pup about a month ago, and he's a little cracker. My parents had poodles when i was a lad, so when my mates had lurchers and i was'nt allowed one, i had to take the poodle with me. he'd retrieve anything i shot with the air rifle, and used to flush out game for the lurchers, had a brilliant nose and athletic enough to clear a 5 bar gate easily. so after leaving the army and getting my own pad i've had collie crosses, but i've always said if i had the opportunity to get a poodle cross i'd jump at it, now maybe it's sentimental, but after a lot
  7. don't laugh, 7/8 greyhound/collie x standard poodle, cracking little dog 12 weeks and 17" tts. i've high hopes for him, then again you always do lol
  8. big day today, my pups first walk. Up at sparrows fart, in anticipation. Practice on the garden had been a bit hit and miss, but more miss than hit. So when the lead went on and he started bucking about, i was'nt filled with confidence. i ended up pretty much dragging the first 500yds, then just like that he decided it was'nt that bad and started trotting along. I must admit that i think my old russell helped, although she was'nt amused having to go on the lead and walk along side the pup as well. Happy days though, onwards and upwards. posted a pick of him whilst out
  9. here's a question for you, if i bought a ferret from pet stock and worked it all it's life, would that improve the abilities of it's offspring as a posed to if i'd not worked it ?
  10. mostly feed mine dry,I don't touch welbeloved tend to get bladder stones with that( and it does'nt suit the ferrets either lol), and rabbits around here are that scarce, that any i get go in the pot. Thats why i bought a poodle cross Whin, to make the most out of every opportunity. Plus the neighbours a tosser and complains about the flies, they get mince probably once a week
  11. hi guys, i have just been given 3 ferrets, 2 jills and a hob. when i went to pick them up the guy says they'd recently been ill and lost a lot of weight. the 2 jills i don't think i've ever seen thinner ferrets. the hutch came with them, and there does'nt seem to any particular sign of diarrhoea etc. i've never met the chap before but the house did'nt exactly look well looked after and with beer cans piled up outside the door and all around the garden, i wondered if it was'nt more a case of neglect than illness. they seem happy in them selves. any suggestions on what it could be? needless to s
  12. Good luck with the pup Andy, saw the litter and your pup the day you picked him up, they were a fine litter, please keep us informed of his progress. regards collie john. cheers john, seems i've got a lot to prove lol
  13. good news guys, i bought one last week! and a fine pup he is. already got him sitting to hand signals and he's only 9 weeks, which is something some lurchers never learn in a life time. what i'm after is a good allround and especially one that can retrieve from water. as for hunting instinct its still in modern poodles.
  14. if people did'nt "mess" as you put it, we'd all be running greyhounds
  15. I'm buying one of the for mentioned pups, hopefully pick it up tomorrow. Typp Ratcher's a regular contributor to cmw and a serious dogman. He's wrote an article in the past on why cross a poodle. Apparently the dam's 7/8 greyhound/collie and the sire's a poodle. My parents had 2 poodles when i was young and both where keen as mustard, wanted to hunt anything, one's favourite trick was to pull hedgehogs out from under hedges, an excellent nose. And even being a young lad of 13 with no dog training experience trained one of them to retrieve when out with air rifle, and both of them could clear
