Yeh thats just nasty spineless behaviour specially if you kids were out there as well. Complain to the police she was throwing stuff at your kids, that should shut her up

From what I understand a SBS is slightly quicker to load and lighter but then you get more recoil. If you are shooting game/rough shooting and out for longer then you will probably fire less cartridges and therefore benefit from a lighter gun. Wouldn't fancy putting 100+ carts through a SBS on clays though.

My FAO told me to take the fore end off the shotgun and take it in with me. You can leave the gun in the car, obviously make sure it's out of sight and park so the boot is up against a wall. I have to say though, to take your fore-end off you are going to have to pull you gun out of it's slip to do so....in theory it might be sensible but in practice surely if someone else at the petrol pump sees a hind of a shotgun stock in your hands you could end up with an MP5 pointed at your head! I'd just keep everything out of sight and locked up. That is all the law asks for from my understandi

Should I have to oil the stock of a new gun?
Nik_B replied to Nik_B's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Cheers Jon the gunsmith gave me a bottle of walnut oil I just wasn't too sure about using it. Might wait to find out about my other issue first as I think the guns going back to Browning/Miroku -
I've had a blow out in a BMW 520 at similar speeds and let me confirm that seriously puts the willies up you!! That was when I was much younger and I have never driven like a twat since, in fact I even drove a VW Beetle for many years and that makes silly driving quite impossible...it couldn't have pulled a soapy stick out of a dogs arse. OP you'll get 3 points for speeding I imagine. 30 mph over the speed limit and you get banned.

Should I have to oil the stock of a new gun?
Nik_B replied to Nik_B's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for the replies guys...not sure if it is already treated/oiled, it does have something on the wood but I am not sure if that is to protect or just make it look nice. p.s If you read my other post this gun is destined for being used as a cricket bat soon -
This is driving me bloody nuts! I bought a new MK70 this year. From the first time I used it the gun would always return the auto to safe after both barrels had been fired and the gun opened. So to make it clear it I would fire the first barrel then the second, then I open the gun to eject the cartridges and the safety clicks on automatically. "Fair enough" I thought it must have come fitted with the auto safty even though the gun shop said it wasn't. I shot with it frequenty for a few months then one day had some problems when the gun wouldn't fire. I mucked about with the barrel sele

Been told to oil my stock with Walnut oil and to do it by hand. I looked on youtube and the videos I've seen show people sanding the stocks down. My gun is a MK70 with a grade 5 stock. Will it have been oiled already or should I do it? Bit unsure of what to do as I don't want to make a mess of it but with the amount of rain we've had I want it to be protected if I take it out. I could stick some picks up tomorrow if that would help? Cheers Nick

Depends on what you call mental health issues. Are they really unstable people and ever likely to be a risk to anyone or have they just been through a rough patch several years ago and went to see a doctor for prozac? The reason I ask is since prozac and those kind of pills came out 10 or so years ago there has been a massive drive for people to talk about depression and doctors were handing them out like smarties for years. I don't know anyone lucky enough to have never had the occasional down patch or been through stressful patches in their lives. Most struggle through their problems and

yep but dare you mention that you are under alot of stress at work or your kids are driving you mad and that flagged SGC/FAC on you doctors records would have the police confiscating your guns. As you said people would become affraid to talk to their GPs and it would have a negative effect, maybe even cause another tragedy as someone feels like they cant talk to their doctors. GP's wouldn't risk litigation for a minute.

This was one the PW forum and it's a pretty good read....THIS IS NOT ME WRITING ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bloke, on 03 January 2012 - 02:21 PM, said: Having worked in mental health care for most of my working life, one of the biggest problems I have encountered is duplicated exactly in the shooting world. When someone has been detained under a Section of the mental Health Act and that Section comes up for renewal, in order for it to be renewed, the staff must provide EVIDENCE that the person stil

They did discuss that at the last review but then you've got the GPs who don't want to have the buck passed on to their lap. There is no crystal ball and no way of predicting these events, either they legislate even more and have a blanket ban of anyone with criminal convictions, plus a ban on anyone who's show then slightest hint of getting any kind of depression, then ban a load more people from having them and still I bet it would happen. There were several similar cases to this last year but without guns, several familes murdered by husbands/fathers but with knifes instead...One of whi

The thing is it appears it was one person making that call and there was no evidence other than hearsay...if I phoned up the police and told them my next door neighbour was going to top himself should they take his guns away? Just my word against him and the police have work within the legislation. This is what they've said so far anyway. If they turned up and he totally denied it and there was no proof he'd tried to harm himself what can they do? The image, which appeared just over a week ago, depicted a rustic-looking Ms Allen brandishing a shotgun in the countryside with a number of dead game birds on the bonnet of her car. Brandishing! WTF??? Definition of BRANDISH transitive verb 1 : to shake or wave (as a weapon) menacingly 2 : to exhibit in an ostentatious or aggressive manner

Just looked on the BBC and the latest is that both parties had been out drinking and there was big argument. The claims that he had threatened self harm were made by an individual and therefore it was one persons word against the other and no evidence of anything else. I suspect booze had more to play in this tragedy than anything else like depression etc Ban Alcohol?

What difference does it make, he is not a f*****g octopus and can only fire one at a time FTB haha I was going say the same

Manchester police do like you to have done safety training for a SGC. I had lessons with a BASC coach for my SGC and I am a member of a rifle club and have shot their for a few years now so they would be ab le to determine that I shoot safely on the range.
-
No Lab I am saying there is a danger that suddenly anyone who in the past has had a bit of the winter blues/lost a job/went through divorce and made the unfortunate choice of telling a doctor that they were felling a bit depressed might suddenly have their SGC revoked. And yes if someone is suffering from serious depression they should lose their guns if they pose a threat but seriously how on earth are you going to find out until it is too late? Especially if gun owners are scared to go to a doctor in the first place. Some police forces have already started sending letters to spouses
-
Yeh we've got this already BASC is supposed to make themselves available to the media at times like this. Strangely I saw a Countryside Alliance quote on the BBC website but nothing from BASC. The have been quoted in other media sources such as the daily mail. In the end it will be impossible to prevent certain people going psycho, there is no kind of test that would spot something like this I imagine their doctors would not have been aware that something was going wrong in their heads...otherwise surely they'd have been sectioned! In the case of Derick Bird and I imagine this one ther

Mate there are no problems currently, people murder each other especially their relatives in this country on a weekly basis if he had of used a kitchen knife or a cricket bat it just wouldnt get as much media coverage. The steps taken by police when assessing folks for guns are more then adequate/stringent already. Other this one (who should have had them removed when self harm came to light) and that other derick bird idiot there have been no other incidents like this (that i know of) with legal firearms since the Dunblane tradgedy and that was 15 odd years ago I agree but we'd ne
