  1. i have access to a .22 now .. so im thinking if i come across anymore live ones, i'll be sure to shoot them with the .22 Thanks for all the comments tho My count is up to 15 rabbits so far and i cleaned all but 4 edit: im going to be looking around for a dehydrator, i've thought about using a bbq but eventually the cost of propane would be more then the price of a dehydrator .. and id rather not watched a bbq for 12 hours
  2. They will be eaten a friend who's a chef wants to roast some but the idea came across to make some Jerky out of them if its possible. Havnt done much research on that yet
  3. newfoundland ... have spent some time in alberta for a while i know some people in winnipeg, not many
  4. i've tried to let one go, but it was damaged so I decided not to let it limp around in the woods suffering and eventually eaten the first one was in the snare just sitting there and i hit it over the head with the back of a hatchet and it ended up jumping around and strangling itself. This was my first kill so i kinda felt bad for hitting it 2nd one, i tried to let it go. but ended up trying the 'chop' method with the hatchet. (my friend whos a hunter told me about it, he works to support a family so he cant go with me everyday((i check my snares once a day)) and it didnt go as well as
  5. i dont know anyone who does this technique and 99% of the time i go into the woods by myself but today i got a rabbit, dead in the snare, so just now i tried this I think i focused to much on the neck itself (instead of the connection at the Base of the skull), felt it stretch and crack a little ... i think i did this wrong Still wont try on a live one Next one i'll focus the pressure more at the Base of the skull/neck connection (i did feel a gap there but not sure if its suppose to be there or if it happened on 2nd pull) Hopefully tomorrow i'll get 1 or 2 dead ones to try
  6. This would be useful and much appreciated, but im sure like almost everything else, this process is figured out with practice. I am grateful for the information about the 'stretch' as i had no idea about it before this topic. Thanks you. Thanks much, im sure over time, once i get a good method i wont mind as much. when holding the legs and the head back, would you 'push' the head downwards keeping most pressure on the neck .. or 'Pull' it downwards ... Or is pulling/pushing essentially the same thing? or only use Pull instead of push I'll try this method very soon as
  7. Thanks for the comments and information Greatly appreciated and will certainly try the stretch method Thanks again
  8. everyone starts somewhere Edit: But to be honest i did expect some flaming, considering this IS a hunting forum .. so that is ok I still am wondering what the forum thinks would be the most humane way of killing a live rabbit Thanks again in advance
  9. i dont feel terrible for it or anything, just think about what i did occasionally throughout the day 2nd one i ever killed, i'll get more accustomed to it I was just wondering a more humane way of killing it Thanks in advance
  10. Im new to snaring, so far i have gotten 6, 2 of these were alive when you pick them up by back legs and hit at the base of the neck ... how hard do you hit? im guessing pretty hard i sound like a sissy but .. damn .. i feel bad for about half a day or so after actually killing one (in the snare dead i dont mind) guess i'll get desensitized to doing it.. any tips for killing them quickly? (without a gun) Thanks in advance
