  1. wow just wanted to say they are beatiful beddy pups- all the best with them, they are just perfect looking little lurchers :-)
  2. with our working ferrets,we just give them a rabbit, tend to avoid the dry food stuff
  3. yeah 8 weeks can work, we tried with our collie X, but she didnt want to know til 12 weeks!!lots of them retrieve well at 8 weeks+. we first used socks and small toys, then she liked to retrieve baseball caps haha. now she retrieves canvas dummies or rabbit dummies straight to hand. i think really, the basic thing is not to bore the pup- only do 3 or 4 retrieves because he/she will get bored of it soon and not want to know! i retrieve train in hallway/landing by throwing the dummy to the top of the stairs then waiting for her to retrieve it. the reward should be the dummy, but iv found iv ha
  4. Hiya, what sort of breed is she? 12weeks is a nice age and its good to let her be a pup and play, we had our collie x pup from 7weeks and just spent lots og time with her and our other working lurcher. Its difficult to say whens the best time, it totally depends, the best thing is not to rush into it else itll put her off. Cllar and lead training is a good start and some sit, stay and down commands. They need to know whos boss right from the start. We started using a stuffed sock for retrieves from bout 13/14 weeks approx and anything else she found fun to retrieve. Pre this most time was spen

  11. iv made my complaint to the bbc. Its not acceptable to tar everybody with the same brush,.theres of course no doubt there are those out there ruining it for the rest of us, but now, we all will be looked at like that. And whats with the 'specially trained terriers'? Specially trained?haha. Those who areinthe wromg are in the wrong, but now its made to look like we all behave like that. More aggro. Gves us all a bad name.i only had to walk my lurcher in a public place the other day and was given jip because its a running dog. This just fuels the anti's opinions.Think bbc should get their facts s
  12. heya! ideally pup shouldnt be able to chase live rabbit until a year old, just in personal experience only.just seems to work better for us. personally- retrieving is good training point firstly and most important, as when you're out lamping you dont wana be chasing the dog round in circles, he/she should bring it straight to your feet with your command. sit and stays are very important for a working dog as are important for general discipline, you want the dog to know whos boss remember, and youre in command. and obviously recall.coming back when you want it to!! important! lead training - so
  13. yeah great looking pup- and hugely adorable also! should do ya proud
  14. 1)anal glands need emptying 2)sign of worms. most likely to be either or!
  15. I'm so sorry to read this - what a shock for you For some people, the right thing is to wait, for others it's to get another dog straight away. What do you want to do? Could you consider another breed, or perhaps getting a bitch, then perhaps you won't make so many comparisons. I've had generations of the same breed, coming down from 2 sides of the family. I tend to keep a male from a very special female and vice versa, to reduce the likelihood of comparisons. thats a nice answer clover, good advice, and yes sorry to hear about that hood, such an awful shock atvb, im sure youll
  16. Totally- cant believe people wana do that in the first place- not theirs to take at the end of the day! Criminal! and particularly vulnerable pups.

  18. heya, when we got our pup home, we knew we would have that problem, so we put it in its puppy cage with blankets/toy, it had a full tummy and radio on. and ignored it and went to sleep. It cried and whined which is understanably a bit annoying!!but obviously inevitable..so we ignored it and ignored it- its hard to do, but after a few nights it soon began to settle. Just dont say anything whatsoever when it cries so it doesnt gain any type of attention and itll eventually learn to settle and have a bedtime routine!Dogs get used to a routine dont they, so sooner or later theyll realise what
