yeah 8 weeks can work, we tried with our collie X, but she didnt want to know til 12 weeks!!lots of them retrieve well at 8 weeks+. we first used socks and small toys, then she liked to retrieve baseball caps haha. now she retrieves canvas dummies or rabbit dummies straight to hand. i think really, the basic thing is not to bore the pup- only do 3 or 4 retrieves because he/she will get bored of it soon and not want to know! i retrieve train in hallway/landing by throwing the dummy to the top of the stairs then waiting for her to retrieve it. the reward should be the dummy, but iv found iv ha

iv made my complaint to the bbc. heya! ideally pup shouldnt be able to chase live rabbit until a year old,just in personal experience only.just seems to work better for us. personally- retrieving is good training point firstly and most important, as when you're out lamping you dont wana be chasing the dog round in circles, he/she should bring it straight to your feet with your command. sit and stays are very important for a working dog as are important for general discipline, you want the dog to know whos boss remember,and youre in command. and obviously recall.coming back when you want it to!! important! lead training - so
