  1. i dont hunt rabbits but if pups hunt rabbits when they being walked it doesn't bother me,i keep digging dogs a lot of years now and when they start on proper game they don't bother with rabbits much and would never mark them, just my experience maybe different for other lads.
  2. merlin and eve are saluki lines aren't they?
  3. nearly all the best lurchers i have kept and seen have been off coursing stuff, maybe a coincidence.also coursing dogs are bigger and help bring up the size in wheaten and bull first crosses.
  4. your best bet is a working bred english springer.dont go near the show type, they are useless.
  5. Another stupid comment from a know feck all t1t why a stupid comment mate.why pay stupid price to the vet. cut em yourselves,if your worried about rspca w**kers just don't say it to anybody and they'll never know.it's a simple simple job and doesn't need a vet,the vets are robbing ye with the prices they charge anyway.
  6. cattle bellies from slaughterhouse if you can get them.
  7. too right, but to be fair most of the cub catchers(except those called out for pest control)they have to kill cubs because their dogs would never face a full grown one. whats wrong with starting a young inexperienced dog on young inexperienced quarry?i would of thought this would be the best way to bring a young dog on i agree running already entered dogs on cubs is unsporting atb matt if the young dog is of the right stuff it should have no problem starting on adult foxes when its old enough.if it can't then its a waster simple as that.

  9. a good wheaten cross bred from the right stuff is every bit as hard as any bull cross.by the right stuff i mean proper working wheatens from proper working lines, not the K.C. shite too many people use to breed lurchers these days. Totally agree i don't agree saw them work together and know what i saw iam not saying they are a bad cross case they are not they are hard as nails just not as hard as a bull X's maybe you saw a great bull cross and a not so great wheaten cross,i've seen lots off both cross work and a proper wheaten cross is the match of any bull cross

  11. no matter what the breeding you cant gaurantee all the pups in a litter will make the grade.
  12. i know a lad has whippets years, always outside never had a heat lamp,no problem.
  13. it will be a good dog then has he rights a lot in the hunting mags i saw one of his dvds recently, they were working 2 and 3 terriers at a time on foxes and even at that they kept leaving it,the lurcher caught a fox got a bite and let go of it.writing in a mag doesn't gaurantee anybodys dogs as good.the ones i saw i wouldn't have in my yard.
  14. heard a story years ago about someone crossing a hand reared stoat to a ferret.i was told the young were too fast and killed a lot.i don't know how true the story is.anyone else ever hear of that happening?
  15. take her out on the lead for a while see how she goes.
  16. he's ready for his one way ticket i think.it happens to us all.
  17. do ye think if the labour bunny huggers are voted out the hunting ban will be repealed this year if at all?
  18. or if you want to make things very straightforeward just cut a 3 or 4 day old pups tail to the required length with a resonable knife and put it back with its mother. job done. never done it myself bud,the only vet who cut them off put powder on the end and sewed it. i think it would heal cleaner with less scaring don't you?? waidmann if "just cutting off" then a, make sure you are between the vertbrae b,push the skin back(away from the tip) and put a stitch in the end when done(powder the wound before sewing). as i said before its illegal if you are not qualified. w
  19. know what your'e saying and i agree, but i'm just talking about the situation in my area.
  20. i finish by march 17 at the very latest every year and usually stop actual digging in febuary.everything needs a break to breed.unfortunatly there are a good many clowns over here all with rubbish dogs that think they are top workers when they catch small cubs.the very same lurchers or terriers would not face a grown animal.shitty dogs with shitty owners.
  21. you cant measure a dogs ability to take foxes in inches to the shoulder.its all about breeding and heart,i've seen lots of big tall dogs jack foxes.still though a small size wheaten or bull bred lurcher can often be caught for speed even though it has no fear of game.
