  1. We had a similar problem with our JRT x, in the end this is what we did - sounds mad BUT it worked! If she will do an "exited wee" when she is over fussed, make sure you do that just before you come back indoors to make sure they are completely empty - not saving some for later. Just make sure you only do it outdoors though.
  2. Ben our first cross, deerhound x greyhound - he used to be a fox dog (pre-ban). He is 9 now and retired, but is still a very good guard dog.
  3. We have been keeping our new bull lucher on the diet that the people we got her off were apparently feeding but she is having the runs every so often. I thought it was all the changes and travelling etc to begin with, but now im thinking its to food. What kibble type food is best for lurcher pups? They are quite happy to pinch adult dog food but arent interested in their food. I would do the BARF diet but dont have a local supplier or enough freezer space currenlty, so they will have to make do untill i can move.
  4. Ben 27"TTS deerhound x grey Alcantara 23"TTS misc lurcher New puppy 15"TTS currently bull lurcher
  5. We have got a new bitch a week or so ago (too good an offer to refuse) although she is only a pup, with the intention of getting rid of the older dog in the new year. Although she seems to be learning from the pup, she isnt so bouncy (like mental bouncy). She has even been pretty good with recall I just have no idea whats going on in her head, im wondering if she is learning form the pup or maybe its given her a boot up the arse as she isnt the baby anymore?
  6. I think we may for now have to stick to the kibble, as i would like change them to meat - they may even get a few more meaty snacks. So long as i can find some cheap - we normally go the meat auctions at the bootfair in the summer and get them ribs. Thnking about it it looks likey we would need another freezer with the quantity of meat we would need, so i think this will have to wait untill we can move.
  7. Have been considering BARF for a while now, the dogs have always had fresh meat occasionaly as treats. Im now wondering about changing them over to it fully BUT; how much it will cost to feed them compared to kibble? where do you get it from? We live in a quite built up area so dont really have a local butcher. how much do you feed? how much do you get in one go, how long does it last?
  8. We have only done running of any kind with her in an enclosed space so far as she gets distracted so easily, we have done agility type work with most of our dogs but she refuses to jump - which works out quite well as we can use builders fencing if she is running.
  9. Hearing is fine she can hear her kibble being scooped quite hapily form the other end of the room, even if she isnt loking or is behind something.
  10. Below (hopefuly) is a pic of Alcantara I have wondered too if there was something (a peroper something other than "its toilet trained" yeah sure!) of why the got rid. I have never had this much problem training a dog before, we have had dogs from puppies and also trained adult dogs befoer but i have never had so much problems.
  11. She has been having 2 food included training sessions each day up till now BUT she hasnt really learned/improved anything since we started. Her recall is still as poor as when we started and she hasnt learned anything more than sit! I am seriousley wondering if she is a bit stupid as she will even have her head shut in the pen door when im not quick enough to close it - the others learned after maybe 3 times at the most maybe sticking your head out when the door is closing is a stupid idea. We have gotten another lurcher pup who has this evening learned where her bed is and to go to it on
  12. Have only just been told about this; Apparently this morning there were two brindle lurchers loose in the milton area of sittingbourne, they headed off in the direction of the country park from the north street area.
  13. Sounds like its something i will have to leave now as its not really practical to travel 3 hours to a track, will have to stick to the lurchers.
  14. Nice looking dog, i would have offered a home but dont really have the room for anymore dogs
  15. Im assuming the license is fairly costly, plus sounds like hassle. Anyone know a flapping track in kent? As id far rather have my dog and train it myself.
  16. We live very close to the sittingboune dog track, and have been there a few times now. It has got me wondering how you would go about finding and racing a dog. Im asuming you would have to go with something specificaly from racing lines, rather than lurcher types?
  17. She will be having a bit more 1 on 1 time now, as our other lurcher has hurt his leg today Will let you know how she gets on.

  19. Thanks for the nice warm welcome guys
  20. We havent had her from a pup, we got her when she was around 6 months old. She has also had problems with her digestive system, she had the runs or would throw up pretty much any food we gave her. She has been to the vets about it and we have finally found a food that suits her, so she can put some more weight on. All of this has delayed her training, we finally managed toilet training around 9 months. Maybe im just expecting too much comparing her to the other lurcher, he does have collie in him though so is quick to learn. Although the problem with giving food rewards we have with
  21. Ah forgot that bit shez about a year old without checking my paperwork
  22. I have only just found this site, thought id register to hopefully get some advice about the youngest of my lurchers who is a real pain in the butt! I have tried soem other forums but they seem to be very give em a treat for thins and treat for that every time they so much as sneeze, which is not very helpfull as the lurcher couldnt care less about food if she gets distracted! The older one will chase and recall when asked, has chased off a few trespassers form my house, he will even sit and do paw Where as the younger one seems to just not be able to foucs for more than 5 mins on any
