  1. its to do with genetics, mearle problems only happen with mearle x mearle. as the pups need the "mearle" gene from both parents to have problems
  2. Did you get your stronghold? Be interested to know as I was just about to place an order when I thought I'd google them - tons of complaints about them being scammers so not sure... I hadnt thought of googling them, im just wary of getting anything ordered over the net with a card (as had all my money pinched before after a day out in London). Ta for the ideas of other products, do you have links where to get them from? As ideally i need to be able to buy in bulk with no prescription needed, as vets will only give 6 months (new school type vets around here). Also need to make sure
  3. not heard of hyperdrug - do you have a link of where to buy from?
  4. Ive seen this site which is apparently no prescription needed for http://www.petcaremart.co.uk/products.aspx?id=74&name=stronghold_
  5. I think that's the problem with rescues they are too quick to say "hunting with dogs = bad owners who don't care for their dogs", I suppose I can understand it as they do usually get left with the "bad hunters problem dogs". Although I think its a shame more dog people cannot be more understanding of what others do, as far as I am concerned my dogs can partake in any sports they chose as long as they are happy (I have tried quite a few to find something for my terrier to do to occupy her "special" mind). Both my pet dogs have come 2nd hand and I knew they wouldn't make workers, but I
  6. I have always loved the murle dogs, their pattern is just so different from anything else
  7. Its in Darlington, near Middlesbrough Its a shame it was'nt a week before as I was up that way on holiday and we stopped at the Dog Inn.
  8. I know some dogs get a phobia type thing after someone has clipped their feet badly i.e. cut the nails too far, so for those type of dogs a file may work better as you cant accidentally hurt them like you can if they squirm with the clippers - which only makes them more paranoid. One of mine (who is also scared of carrier bags for some reason??) hates having her nails clipped, so i will file her nails now if they need doing. Although i try to make her ware them down herself to make my life easier.
  9. As the topic title what is the best and cheapest way to do this? Until now i have been using stronghold and the other one (begins with A- advantix?) and alternating them for best resistance so they get the tick cover from stonghold and the worm cover from the other one. I have also been using the wormer the vet gave me (think it begins with D- sorry really bad at remembering names of this stuff). My question is this the best way to of treating the dogs for worms/fleas or is there a better product out there? Also as this stuff is prescription only, ive been paying the vets £11
  10. Im guessing her problems are why the last owners got rid of her We will keep her as im not one to just "loose" her as she is useless as a worker and im not the sort to lie and pass her on again. She is very freindly to the point of being OTT, she is always saying hi to everyone who passes (just have to mind if they have food or it dont last long).
  11. Update Leg is now back to normal and not poofy BUT the normal mental bouncing has retunred We had to go back to the vet as she almost starved herself by refusing to eat kibble, testing showed no phycal issues with her - after a few weeks of the cheap tinned food (only thing she would eat) she is now on kibble again and has gained wait again. Vet now rekons she is "mentally challenged" (maybe dropped on her head/starved of oxygen as a pup or something), she isnt nasty or anything like that she just doesnt seem to be able to learn/focus/concentrate. Took her lure racing the oth
  12. how mutch are they? i would be looking for a size 6
  13. I need to get a decent pair of boots/wellies for walking, before i have always used my work boots but they have made me have shoes now so cant use them anymore. So i have been using my wellies in this wet weather but have found that if i waer them too long they are uncomfortable on the soles of my feet as they have a grille thing in the bottom to stop your feet getting wet. So im looking for suggestions as i have bought a few cheap pairs recently but they have just fallen appart, idealy looking for something waterproof and quite high (as im one of those that finds puddles by standing in th
  14. I have been thinking about getting a treadmill for our dogs. I shall be watching with interest.
  15. Sadly the terrier dies last weekend, she was very old (her sight and heairng had mostly gone by then - which is why he had tangled herslef in the lead in the pic), but back when she had teeth she was a usefull dog.
  16. I havent seen to many recently, there is a bypass near where i live and normally you see a few crossing the road but i havent seen any recently when i have been out of an evining.
  17. He is a deer x grey 27'TTS I shall see if i have any interst in them to go as pets, but with the breed they are i cant see them being too popular here (its all staffs and small fluffy things). Im not too bothered if i do end up keeping them, as they are quite well behaved for pups and if their parents are anything to go by they will be fairly smart.
  18. I had a similar thoughs about finding them pet homes as they arent the best cross, although luckily we only have two pups so we may just end up keeping them both. The rottie is quite athletic for her breed, and the sire is a very good all round dog. Im hoping they will turn out well like asbos dog.
  19. We had our oldest lurcher neutered fairly recently, as he is now retired so he can be in the house with the girls. We followed the vets advice about waiting whatever time they said till he would be safe to go with the girls. We followed the vets advice but still ened up with puppies. They are now around 8 weeks old - we havent advertised them as we wanted to be sure the lurcher was the sire. They look like they are going to be huge by the size of their feet, they are already bigger than my smallest terrier. They also seem to have quite a lurchery frame to them. Does anyone have a r
  20. agree with above - your dog was on lead hence under control if they are dumb enough to ignore your warning about your "scared" dog its their problem not yours. I have had a very similar experience to you and your rottie, but ours was off lead as was the other dog - but even then as the small thing (shit sue sp?) started it by biting the rottie when it ran over to her, who was a tad peaved gave it a shake and chased it away! Even then when he rang police wanting them to come shoot her then and there, they told him that wasnt how it worked and he admited he was at fault not us in the end.
  21. He has taken some samples for testing to see if they can find out exactly what the issue is and if its fixable.
  22. Sutton vallence is very close to here so will fina a bit more info. Cheers guys, im sure i will now find loyts of things to take the dogs too and be skint after
  23. Do you know where they have their events?
  24. We took her to the vet the other day, to ask about her leg - she managed to get it puff up really bad by running into a bin the other day We went through her problems, he rekons she has something wrong with her. He rekons she has something either physically/mentally or both wrong with her. I think she will end up being kept as a rather bony lap warmer, with maybe the occasional lure racing.
  25. Hopfully this is in the right place. Does anyone know of a club/group etc that does lure coursing? We are based in kent. I know SACS do event days which inlude lure racing, but are there any other places that do this? Or any other sugestions of what other doggy activites there are locally? Looking for something to do with the lurchers to give them something else to do than our normal outings.
