Sorry managed to post this twice

I took my lurcher to a greyhound track today, he apparently did quite well 400m in 31.09 seconds for his first go. He really seemed to enjoy himself and I would like to take him to something similar again, to keep him fit until ha can be let off lead. I know there are lure racing places nearby, but he isn't at the stage yet where I would trust him loose in a field. I am fairly sure he has been let off before, eventually retuned, only to be beaten judging by his reaction when he is caught.

He had a run at a greyhound track today, his first run was 400m in 31.09 seconds. The other few runs he did were just races but weren't timed. He won all the races, but his only competition was a young whippety lurcher. I think he may have been to a track before as before we started he dragged me onto the track to have a look, and got very exited when the lure passed slowly (like he knew what it was).

Huntinglife for hunting lurcher people only?
bobslurchers replied to baldockbanks courser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I recently had a change in circumstances meaning I had to get rid of most of my dogs and I moved to a town. I have got another lurcher but at the moment can only take him lure racing, but if I move in a few years tome to somewhere more suitable I'm hoping to be able to let him hunt. Does that mean for that time I should stop using the forum? -
Lurcher pissing on front legs, when cocking leg
bobslurchers replied to bobslurchers's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If I did that I bet he would just piss up the one id left If its quite a normal thing with no way of stopping him, I think he will be getting quite a few baths as he is white his legs go yellow too -
Our new dog seems to be very talented at cocking his leg and pissing on one of his front legs. Is this a common lurcher thing, as all my previous dogs have either pee'd like a girl or cocked their leg properly? Is there any way of stopping it? As he lives indoors and OH is getting annoyed with the smell.

People who saw him today in person rekoned greyhound was quite high in the mix. He didn't run today in the end but was certainly wanted too. As there is a main road quite close to the field they use and didn't want him getting scared by something and heading back towards the road.

Yep see you there (I will bring your nets - you just reminded me) I think he will take quite a bit of training before I can do anything with him as he hasn't had much any training before.

I'm going lure racing at the weekend so I will see what he is capable of.

I if you catch it soon enough after the mating (not sure exactly how long), you can go to the vets and get an injection. Even if your main worry is the neutered dog, depending on when he was done he may still be able to have pups - speaking as someone who got two pups from a neutered male as vet got the time they should be separated for wrong (its longer than you think 6 months if I remember right). If she could be pregnant DO NOT use galastop to stop a phantom as it will abort any puppies but they will be born dead/deformed. Sorry I have had this happen to me and its something I would nev

I have never owned a bull x before but they would certainly be a dog I would consider getting, as I have been around quite a few bull types and their crosses. I also own a bull x rottie, who is a brilliant dog - big soppy lapdog indoors and scary looking guard dog out of doors. I think it all depends on the quality of the bull that its crossed with, some have drive but have the ability to switch off/calm down when required and be a "normal" dog where as others will try to chase/play with/kill anything they see.

Thanks, he is a very strong dog when he wants to be. My collie guess was purely down to his colouring, assuming he was a merle. I wondered saluki but ive never seen one with anything close to his colouring. He is around 25"TTS, but he wasnt sure about the tape so he may be slightly taller.

Sorry pictures wouldt upload, fixed now.

I have finally found a dog, after being mucked about by a few people I have now gotten a new lurcher. He is an adult from a pet home who was finding his lurcherness too much for them. Tag and collar in the house is just temporary till he settles. I am guessing he has collie in him, but they just said he was a lurcher. Ideas please?

Offered a dog - curious as to its breeding
bobslurchers replied to bobslurchers's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
It was definitely proper brindle and not merle. I went back today and the bloke had already sold him to someone else although he said he would wait for us to go back, to check he was ok with my terrier. That's why I was asking in the first place really as I didn't trust the guy selling him, and he was an older dog so the bloke who had him hadnt bread him. -
I have been to look at a dog today, dog was the right sort of thing we are looking for ad we may go back and collect it tomoro. Need to take out dog to check its ok with her. One thing about it though was it had a very weird pattern on its coat, it was a brindle and while dog mostly BUT on the white patches it had spots like a springer. It also had thicker/longer fur than your usual short coated lurcher. Does anyone know of a springer x lurcher or has anyone seen this type of pattern before? Not that it matters really, its just that it was advertised as a collie x but if there are othe

SOME PEOPLE REALLY PISS ME OFF
bobslurchers replied to lamping lurchers's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have no idea how people can let their dogs just roam. I lost my rottie once for about 30 mins and was panicking, not as she was aggressive as she was a sweet dog BUT for who my pinch her or who may wind her up. Luckily I found her roughly where I had expected, as she had taken herself on her usual route round the block and was buzy sniffing. I was amazed though as she had been gone about 30 mins before we noticed (OH thought she was with me and visa versa - when she slipped out the garden) but no one had caught her or raised the alarm about there being a large "scary looking" dog taking -
electric training collars
bobslurchers replied to grompz's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I was one of the people who was against using them, but have since had to use one on a VERY difficult dog. I have used it to train one command i.e. LEAVE, so the dog can be walked off lead. I have tried treats, long lines, dog trainers etc (the last one recommended PTS) so it was a last resort really for me. Without being able to walk him safely off lead we would have had to get him PTS as he is a very high energy dog, he is now a very useful dog. For him it worked really well but you have to know your dog, rather than a dog who will associate it with the wrong thing and panic say ever -
worm/flea treatment

You shouldnt have to pay a customs charge if its been dilivered with in the uk, i would get on to the company who sent it out to you and find out why you need to pay this charge. Went and collected the bits from the post office today, apparently the postage charge is something to do with the value being over £40? Im quite happy to pay it still though as its still way cheaper than from the vets. Im not quite sure when i ordered maybe 14 days ago or somethin, so overall im quite impressed really - much better than the reviews on line would lead you to believe. -

Decided to take a punt and ordered a years supply for my two, hasnt arrived yet but at least there is hope if your stuff arrived. -
I have had a litter of 7 pups and 5 of them died within the first day (due to bad vet advice). If she was rough with the pup and it wasn't how she would normally be, it may be because she knew the pup was ill (likely if the others died). I know my bitch knew which pups were sickly, even before the vets did. If she is depressed I would consider getting her a foster to allow her hormones to get sorted out.

I have to pay £34 each for mine, and thats still using the cheapest vets around here! I think its really a rip off as its supposed to include a "check up", but is more of "stick the dog on the table, poke with the needle, next". I have taken one of my dogs there with an injury just under his eye, and the vet never said anything about it!
