    Hi all, its been a long time since I looked at the latest air rifles that are currently on the market so here goes. I started off with my dads .22 Diana springer at around the same age as my son who is showing an interest in shooting at the moment, he's 10 years old btw. I progressed from that old Diana many moons ago to other various air rifles, then through my military career to other numerous firearms. I currently hold an FAC and shotgun certificate. Hence why Im in the dark a little as to the modern air rifles on the market today. Please could you offer some pointers as to your person

    My personal preference used with my Sako Finnfire would have to be the Eley hp subs, good grouping, reliable and very good expansion upon impact. Closely followed by the Winchester due to the only reason they seem slightly harder rounds than the Eleys. Not much to choose between em really.

    Be aware Andy that you cannot just boost the power up on an air rifle making it a S1 firearm and hope this will be ok. Once an air rifle has been taken past the legal 12 ft lbs muzzle energy, it then becomes, in the eyes of the law, a "S1 firearm" to make it all legal and above board, it's then required to have the serial number registered as such, which then needs adding to your licence. Once this has been done however it is then always going to be classed as a S1 firearm regardless as to whether you choose to take it back to 12 ft lbs or not.     Totally agree with comments about the Finnfire, happened to pop by my permission with an hour to spare and bagged these two lastnight. Really accurate and reliable, would recommend the 10 round clip too Heres a pic of my set up with soon to be rabbit stew

    Just out of interest/curiosity, how do you lads dispose of the fox ? Its one big hole to dig or a hefty meal for a few ferrets. Its just that I only shoot rabbits and all are either sold or eaten personally, so what do you do with it when killed ? ATB Steve.

    Withholding information regarding ANY convictions, however small, is a BIG NO NO and could well land you in more trouble for not declaring it. With reference to Edge007, Ask yourself if you were the issuing constabulary "would you trust someone with convictions for common assault and being drunken and disorderly with possession of a shotgun " ? I dont know the ins and outs but I would say your chances are Very slim to say the least. IMO Depends on the circumstances and how long ago it occured.

    I had an air rifle some years back which I decided to have upgraded to FAC. When it came back it was flinging pellets all over the place at 28ft lbs with the spread of a shotgun out to 50mtrs . Contacted the manufacturer who recommended that I have a 19" barrel fitted as opposed to the standard 16"......this was only going to cost me an additional £150 to do so and they would keep the origional barrel too. Worst decission I have ever made in going down the air rifle FAC route. In the end I opted for a .22lr and have never looked back.

    I COULDN'T HIT A COWS ARSE WITH A SHOVEL! LMAO (that tickled me, cheers) Honestly though, as stated practice makes perfect as I had the same problem myself when I first went out with the lamp. Distances and guestimates are all to cock in the dark until you get used to it all. I have had more than one round part a rabbits ears Also I agree that you have to get to grips with ya combo, put a few hundred through it at various ranges. I mounted a lazer to my scope which falls in the centre of the cross hairs at 60 mtrs which gives me a good reading on distance depending upon wh

    Could well be the same one, as the golf course was Horsehay ! A stones throw from there ! I remember this sighting being reported in the Shropshire Star.

    Not personally seen anything extra wierd, but a cousin of mine was out blatting bunnies for a local golf course one night with his air rifle, when he clicked on his lamp only to find himself around 40 yrds away from he swears was a BLACK PANTHER in one of the bunkers. These things have been often reported roaming around Shropshire. He made a rapid exit to say the least, he did say there was no way he was going to tickle it with his .177 lmao

    Cheers for clearing this up fella's. Price is indeed the winner here as there is a difference of around a £100 between the Sak and the Whisper. Judging by the views of you who have experienced the report being very similar, I think the Sak wins hands down.

    Hello all, just need a bit of advice here as I am thinking of changing my sound moderator on my .22Lr for a shorter one. The one that I currently have, I purchased when I bought the rifle which is, I am led to believe a Sako moderator with nylon one piece baffle which is around 6" long. The concern I have is that my FAC states ".22Lr Sako sound moderator". Does this mean that this is the only one that I am able to possess unless I request a variation ? I would like to buy a shorter Wildcat Whisper .22LR sound moderator, but would a gun shop refuse me a sale unless it distinctly sta

    Hello everyone, just joined the forum, as most of the searches that I run through google, for an answer to a particular question, seem to lead me here. The names Steve, 41, from Shropshire. Been shooting air rifles since I was old enough to lift one. Spent 6 years in the TA and was an active member of the shooting team since I gained Best Shot on my recruits course.
