  1. I'm going to try crossing one to a good drahthaar to see what comes of it. A couple of us over here have been thinking they might make decent hog dogs. Jagds do an outstanding job... but a little more size and improved winding ability might make an interesting dog to add to the pack.
  2. This old boy is a digging fool. He is always talking about the good ones, which makes me wonder how good the dog is. But I mainly hunt jagds, and he keeps them too. Maybe why he hasn't said much about him. I'm gonna talk to him over the weekend. I'll ask what he thinks of the dog. He's got another one from Nuttal, but I can't remember how it's bred.
  3. I have heard there are some good dogs in Sweden. I have been wanting one from Tribiani Kennel for years. I have a brother to his Zimba bitch.
  4. A friend of mine has a son that was born on 09. Zulu x Cabbage. Not sure what he thinks of him though.
  5. Hey Dan did you get Minton's bitch bred to Payton? This is what makes them special. Never in my life have I witnessed a breed so commited and good at getting themselves killed. But I have seen them give every bit as good as they get. They are like any other strain of terriers in that there is variation withhin the breed. This statement comes from a man that proved it.
  6. Cherry II vom Sonnern Rip Chico vom Sonnern Rip. Cuno vom Sonnern
  7. These dogs were off of Emil vom Leinegrund. The ONLY remaining son, Cuno von Sonnern is on Dan Minton's yard and he is almost twelve years old. I have a son of his that has an excellent nose but zero grit. Most of these dogs are known for the same. Wolfgang has Grenzkamm and Aluminium dogs last I heard. Anything from German kennels will cost 700 euro best case scenario for an eight week old pup, and that's before shipping.
  8. Here's a picture of one of the double Lok Aluminium pups at nine months. I'm pretty proud of the ones that made it this far. Diemo
  9. Everything involving these dogs has cost me money... but it's something I enjoy. I've sold a few, but gifted more than ten times those I've sold. They can be great dogs to hunt, or wash out just like any other. Nothing magical about them. But I like this line of dogs allot. The next man might not give two cents for them.
  10. My friend is working and training the two dogs with the dove. The young gyp isn't ready for any serious varmint work yet, and everything she's done so far has been with another dog. I have my fingers crossed. All signs are she'll make a dog of herself, but you never know 'til you know.
  11. Here's a picture of one of the pups in the water earlier in the thread and the dog jumping into the water. The male is almost a year and a half and the female is eight and a half months. Both self entered and the male will see allot of action on hogs and small game after deer season. Both have already been introduced to coon, and Mac the older dog is what we hope for at this point. Alli the younger one is going strong but has a ways to go before we will know if she has any staying power. Her mom is the ugly old bitch above, and one of the best terriers I have seen.
  12. Everything we can find that walks or flys.lol
  13. Kenneling together is one thing. Expecting dogs not to act like idiots when your not looking is another. Every dog comes complete with a handle on the scruff of it's neck. This can come in real handy when trying to convince two dogs that they don't even want to look at eachother. Tritronics Trashbreaker works wonders too. Dogs that are fighting aren't hunting... and dogs that are hunting aren't fighting. Too each his own. I won't fault a man for doing what works best for him. But an occasional outburst is one thing. Out of control dogs are another IMO.
  14. Haha, mine work! No these dogs are off my German male and off Arkan and April. I haven't bred Krol yet. I will probably stick him to April next. He has figured out the hogs pretty well now. Only problem is he is an older dog. We will basically just use him for breeding. You do the drahthaar cross yet? Not yet...She'll bleed again any time now because deer season is almost over and I need her. That's just how my luck runs. I'll cross my fingers and pray it's some time in Feb. But I need to get it done if I'm gonna do it. She'll probably get her self killed this year. She thinks
  15. Your pup should be socialized if it's going to be expected to work around other dogs. It will most likely only get worse now because of this unless you take action. There are ways of fixing the problem. But if the pup is always going to be worked solo, or tied out while another dog works seperating them might solve the problem. JM2c
  16. Nice work!! Are those Krol pups? Your never gonna believe this, but I've learned here recently that these pot lickers were feeding aren't working terriers.. Seems we're supposed to be hunting spaniels when brushing. Did you by chance get that memo... cause I swear I didn't.lol
  17. Could of sworn I saw something to the effect of "Earthdogs and Working terriers" at the top of the dam page. Must have been a typo. I'm always left scratching my head when it's seems it's more important to some to degrade the work another man does with what he feeds, than to talk about how he enjoys the work his own dogs are doing. I don't hunt rats beyond letting a terrier kill them under the house or slipping a little dog down in the rocks at the jetties when I'm fishing, just as often as not they end up with a dam crab hanging off the end of their nose... but I enjoy the hell out of
  18. We can hunt whatever we want here. The true test of a terrier HERE is whether or not it can do the work you put in front of it. Doesn't matter if it's fox or piney woods rooters. Mine have to hunt everything. That's the true test. Work what you feed as you see fit.. I have nearly seven thousand acres at my disposal. Come and show me what a TRUE TERRIER is.lol There are badger three hours from here that can be legally dug to, and your dog can be on coon the same day. Come and show me what a real dog looks like. I'll put my pot lickers to whatever we come across in any terrain we come acros
  19. The terriers I feed are for the work I put in front of them. You can choose to confine your expectations to what is traditionaly hunted in your area, and judge your dogs accordingly. I'll do the same. My dogs aren't any kind of world beaters but they WORK for what I DO. Most are worked TO GROUND both here and in Europe. They don't see any badger here..... yet.... but I'm working on it... and it's legal as hell. They have to locate. MOST OF the time that means putting their noses to the ground and running a track in a very dry climate. They also have to wind like curs. They aren't specialists,
  20. With all due respect that may be true in the GB, but it isn't everywhere. A good fox dog may not be worth spit on coon. And while I'd be happy to call that dog a worker on fox, he wouldn't be much of one for a man that hunted coon now would he, or does he catch a break due to lack of available game? BADGER DIGGING WAS BIN PRACTICED IN GB BEFORE YOUR COUNTRY WAS COLLONIZED JAWN IT WAS YOUR FORFATHERS WHO TOOK OUR TERRIERS TO NEW LAND AND ADAPTED THEM TO DIFFRENT QUARRY, STILL THE NAME OF A TRUE WORKING TERRIER BELONGS TO A BADGER DIGGING DOG, PRE BAN. I think your misunderstanding what
  21. Jawn, have you seen dogs that were faultless on foxes fail on coon? Faultless may be a stretch. I've seen terriers that would try and draw fox want little to do with coon.
