FOOKING american patterdale my arse I only answer for one Yank Chief....and I couldn't care less who breeds what, or why. Seems to me there's PLENTY of junk being bred, and peddled everywhere... your side of the pond included. I'll say this.... I know of a few guys who have been breeding "patterdale" types for the type of earthwork they do in the areas where they do it for multip

  3. Good luck man.... let us know how it turns out.
  4. It depends on what kind of recognition you are after....If it is validation from others, then it's like Bosun says. When people point to a dog you produced in the ped before any others you are off to a good, or possibly bad start. If it's a personal standard you've set fourth... Then I suppose it all comes down to your own expectations. I've seen serious dedicated dog men with over thirty years of breeding a particular type of dog, based on a basic formula of a three way cross that successfully and predictably resulted in a unique type of working terrier regarded as not having their ow
  5. Yes it's common.... and effective as hell.
  6. I have seen terriers that would hold it all day in the field and wait until they got back to the kennel to do their business. Some even stand on their front legs and sht up the wall.lol Fat man is right....not much you can do besides clean it up with the exception of bitch about it.
  7. An e-collar works best but you can accomplish the same thing with a check cord. If using an e-collar you don't want to over do it. It's easy to ruin one in a hurry if your not careful. The idea is to communicate to the dog that it had better come when it hears the whistle or else. Terriers CAN be stupid.... but they can just as easily play stupid. They want what they want, when they want it... and will blow you off if you let them. The funny thing is most will come around acting like they've done nothing wrong... when they know better. I used to think that the sharper ones were usually
  8. So much depends on terrain. Hounds work best in some areas, staghounds in others. Hunting yotes with terriers isn't nearly as effective unless you are denning. That said Coyotes live everywhere. Often people hunt areas where a stag or hound wouldn't be very effective. That doesn't make terrier more effective.... but if that's what you hunt with.... that's what you hunt with. I haven't seen where terriers EVER refuse to give chase if it comes to that, and that's what gets most of them killed. There is a member of this board Mainattraction who took what looked to be a medium sized one in a culve
  9. Ena is a nice one for sure....Can't wait to hear how she works for you.
  10. No but the yotes will sometimes locate hogs for hunters in areas where they are frequently hunted. The will start sounding off before the dogs hit the ground. They have learned it often means a free meal so they lend a hand. But when the hog is caught the brave ones sometimes come in and nip the dogs on the ass trying to get to the prize. They are clever b*****ds... and terrier killers. I'm no yote hunter but I've declared war on them this year. I'll even try calling them in with the foxpro just to wipe out as many as possible. I don't know how successful I will be....But they are pretty brave
  11. You must have a different idea of game....... hunting terriers, (of any type) aren't game. I'm not saying that they aren't in some cases extremely hard/ courageous little dogs.....Some are. Doesn't matter what label you give them either... Good dogs are where you find them.... and they don't give a shit what breed you say they are.
  12. Thanks Liam... it is indeed. After talking with friends who live there.... hunting with terriers in South America is way up on my bucket list with these dogs.
  13. My pleasure....you have some excellent hunting opportunities down under. Steamingutpiles has some fantastic terriers there in Australia and he hunts their legs off.
  14. Hi Jawn Did you end up crossing your Jagd to the Drahthaar?and how did they turn out? Cheers Steve No... not yet. I did attempt it but it didn't work out. Ill try again soon enough though. I know several breeders in the Czech Republic and Slovakia....but they speak very little English. If you are interested in attending an event I will ask them when the next one is.... and PM you the details.
  15. How do you prevent it URU? Do your dogs hunt in close enough so that you can intervene if it comes to that? No disrespect intended man...everyone uses these dogs in their own way and their is no WRONG way as far as I'm concerned. I'll dig up some pictures of the heavy weights.
  16. Hey Naustroms....Tell the Polish guy we've got some pretty nice Polish jagds here from Rafal Idzik. They hunt their tails off and are small enough and sharp enough for groundhog. We get a litter with some extras and I'd be happy to send him one. The one we'll be breeding is Duvadirto Jojo the dog in my avitar. He's spannable with nuckles to spare.
  17. I nearly shot one of these last year. My son and I had to spit up in order to round up the dogs that lit off after it. The strange thing was it was so curious about us. It would trot off really slow for a few feet..... look back at us like it was as curious about us as we were it. The dogs finaly ran it off, but not before I realized I was looking at a red wolf or cross more likely. It could have easily went 50+ pounds. I'm glad it escaped... they are protected here. When I was a little kid I would always see the ones the ranchers shot hanging off fence posts on my way to church
  18. They suck...no two ways about it. The bigger jagds can hold their own against a couple of them, but there no telling how many might jump them. So I figure we're gonna go on a killing spree for the next couple of years. I'll try calling them in and when that quits working snaring and denning where I can. All's fair in the effort to rid the area of these mangy creatures.
  19. We have tons of them and they are very cleaver animals. We hunt at night and so do they, so naturally we run into problems with them. They will do some amazing things and go to great lengths to lure the terriers into an ambush... it's not unusual to see one playing cat and mouse, and the terriers always fall for it. But sometimes it doesn't quite work out in the mangy b*****ds favor. They routinely kill terriers though so we've started using backup be it a Drahthaar or Bulldog to help even the odds. One on one, the terriers are usually more than a match for them though. I had one a few yea
  20. Congratulations Vitaliy13!!! I hear Mr Perron breeds some of the finest terriers in the world for boar hunting. I bet ITA makes a dog of herself.
  21. I'm sorry.... I mean no offense....but that just might make the short list of the STUPIDEST sht I've ever heard in my natural life. If allowing a dog to chase a rabbit is a crime... it's time to get back to basics. Un freakin believable!!!!
  22. Forgive my ignorance.... but......if I understand correctly...the police are going to crack down on people who chase rabbits with dogs??!? WTF is that sht all about? Are they so good at their jobs that crime no longer occurs.... terrorism is non-existent and they are now free to pursue people who let their dogs chase rabbits??!? How are these people allowed to wander around un-supervised let alone be in positions of authority??!?
  23. Good lookin bitch....Apolo will put some serious leg under her pups and if they are anything like he was they'll need a garmin. Can't wait to see the pups raising hell down under!
  24. It doesn't seem to be a cross people favor here. Most that made it did so to hunt small game topside, or in barns or just out of curiosity. One of the big problems from what I understand was dog agression but I'm pretty sure I heard an equal number were just screwy. Bull breeds seem to cross better with fells, patterdales, etc. from what I understand. Jagds can be catchy to put it mildly but they usually won't be able to stop a good sized hog by taking an ear. They can stop them.... but they do better and live longer if they are hanging off their balls. My advice would be to get a bull
