  1. our butcher will take all the rabbits i and my friends can get i know at least 8 people who take them to him and he pays £1.50 each. if i could get a few 100 he would take them in winter ferreting is great. as soon as we take them in the people collect them off him normally in the same hour for all the fox hounds. which means we make a few bob and so does he. mostly were i go theres more than plenty rabbits its end of season and i can still have a great nights lamping with endless runs. so with people who lamp in areas like me there cant be any type of overkill atb jamie
  2. i think once you tune the rules you'l have a better comp then LDR from reading other posts about the land that had been ran on in other comp especially for semi finals was poor you seem commited to make things work and right and thats what a comp for running dogs should be about. THE RUNNING OF THE DOG . like you said its early days so your not gonna be able to have all the answers straight away for people but give the bloke a chance he seems to be heading in the right dirrection. no offence ldr but i would never run in a comp if the person who was organising everything hasnt even got usable l
  3. this season im not really gonna propperly stop as just gonna go once a week due to the awkward age of me pup. if i fully stopped now it wouldnt be in his best interests. gonna be tight tho gonna poach and keep my land till season start september
  4. ive seen my self two 19" first x bed/whips catch much more than just a rabbit. one died doing what he loved and the other still runs like fxxk now even with age. also good day dog goes to ground aswell which is mad. real good allrounder i think just depends on the owner they have the ability as long as the owner can bring them on properly and do the dog justice. which is the same with all dogs atb jamie Yes but you wouldent get a 19 inch beddy whippet with the intention of useing solely for other purposes than rabbiting atb dell agree there if your say a pure hare courser then there a

  7. Always had dogs, the only vaccination- if any- was as a pup, like you say if they're exposed they'll maintain the resistance yeah but your dogs have always had the live vaccine as thats all there was read the whole of what ive said now its a totally different vaccine within 3 years its gone its totally different the old 1 used to improve the immune system this one doesnt it just has active indgrediant that stay in the blood. And skin tissuses then when the dog comes into contact with the virus these agents kick in before the immune system to fight the virus off but the old one was differen
  8. this is gonna sound disgusting but most dogs reject there young from human scent if you've got some gloves put some on then get one of the sack they were in and dirty the pup up in it this will help mask your smell then put it infront of her to clean. This is what we do with lambs if there rejected we can even do this to introduce a lamb to a foster mum by rubbing it in her after birth/sack. This should work but if not then milk and hand rearing but if your pup doesnt feed with her for the first 6 hours get some collestrum its what the mother produces in the first few hours it boosts there imm
  9. read my topic on parvo put up today the top medical development teams working to develope and sell the vaccines to vets have changed the vaccine and the way it works. Vets and drugs companys have made a fortune from it but most vets do still do the live vaccine which is the old one where you dont need boosters as your dog builds a strong immunity to parvo but the new one called the killer vaccine does need boosters its not a lie as it only last a maximum of 12 months at full working order and from 12 months to 3 years it slowly fades away then theres no protection at all. Where as the live one
  10. yeah parvo can still be caught if the virus is strong enogh. But what i mean is if you use the live vaccine the booster are pointless as the immunity is already there so it wouldnt help or change things by boostering them but if its the killer vaccine its different you do have to booster them every 12 months to keep the protection up. Its because they work i two different ways, the live one infects the dog witha very small amount of the virus and the dogs immune system learns to put and armoury against it and learns how to fight it and put a barrier up against the virus. once this is acheived
  11. all my dogs must have been done wi the live one mate as av never had to get them boosters....av only got one dog now an hes startin to age a bit so a know what you mean about the killer one...but if a bought a pup an the breeder said it was already done ,unless a knew them personally a would just be on the safe side an take the dog to a vet....cheers..chris.. yeah i agree about if you dont know them then get them to the vet so its done but just wondered if its easy obtainable as loads of people claim of self vaccination. just wondered if it really was as common as said and hope the topic h
  12. hi just found out today vets use different types of vaccine and work in 2 different ways one is called a killer vaccine and this is the one that is become common in vets now as it breaks down in under 3 years and to keep up full protection you have to give an annual booster but if you ask the vet to give a live vaccine which is the other type this last longer and gives full protection like the good old days for almost life and is the same price as the killer vaccine. can you buy it your self to self vaccinate pups or is a lie when pup breeders say they've done it them selves. mainly put this p
  13. People on this site that slag full grus have never ran them. Rear them like lurchers ive owned to many greys some are good alot are bad and i raise them the same as my lurchers just think some of them have got it in them and alot of others dont. fair play fence hopper nice dog, nice to hear about the ones that acctually make it. atb with her
  14. i cover alot of ground as i dont work and to be truthful not out as much at night as i would like to be so need to cover loads of ground to try and keep dog in shape as well as me i surpose if i was lamping 5 nights a week i would only take them for a few mile in the morning then the normal big lamp at night. plus alot of us walk for mailes to escape the mrs's
  15. freaks of nature can happen look at the 10ft man. but true would be very rare in deed for that size. either the dam was a freak of nature or he lied. i go with he lied
  16. im the same i just walk the dog for a mooch about but i just follow where ever me legs take me always exploring new places and as the days go on there getting further and further away. but im a typical mile counter if i aint done enough i aint going back. but my lurcher can out walk me anyway so when im not lamping in the evening now im taking him on a bike ride to try and tire him out
  17. be good to keep us posted every few months as alot of us will be interested on how she comes on especially coming from hancock with the mixed reviews. cracking looking mind, hope she does you proud atb jamie
  18. i think it all depends on the weather as well if its still with the moon up i'll happily stay in. but if theres wind or rain or even both i'll be out. still get loads of runs with good weather just not as big a bag with the moon up. but its better for your dogs fitness and sharpens them up for def running with moon light as the rabbits are alot harder. so i see it as good experience for the dogs stop them getting lazy
  19. i average about 10 miles a day which is mix of field and road if my legs can handle it i go further but changes day by day. Ive also started taking him for an evening ride on a push bike with him running by my side but this is only when im not lamping. But this has been a gradual process to get to this as hes still young and growing.
  20. i take it if she has 10 pups you'l be keeping all of them will you as i think its wrong to sell so closely inbreed pups
  21. mate i think its 50/50 i know loads of people who have tried your method of inbreeding and some litters have come out ok not perfect and the others have come out wrong eg. deformed, height, weight all wrong ingrowing nails, unaccended balls, bad hips, blindness, hearing prob, the list is endless the further away you go as in father to daughter you have less risk but the closer the blood line brother to sister the percentage of deformities goes up. some liters are fine but most wernt of good enough quality if you truley wanted to keep the line going and the quality i would think it would be alot
  22. smart looking dogs there be faster than my 7 month old lurcher already, suprising how fast a 4 month old whippets are. hope they do you proud atb huntingalltheway
  23. thing is with dogs if there not used to a house environment they wont behave well inside its common sense if you bring a pup up and set him his boundries like you do with everything else he will know what he is or isnt aloud to do in the house. generally the prat dogs are dogs that have been kenneled for ages and then aloud in so its all new to them so they will push the limits. i dont mind doing it either depends on my circumstances as i agree with that having them in the house doesnt change there work ability but when needed there outside ie full house or going out
  24. must admit dogs after a hard nights work do prefere the quiet of the kennel as in some house holds are way to active and the dog can have disturbed sleep hence why the choose kennel over house but apart from that dont think it makes much difference my house is like eygipt me mrs wont ever turn the heating off or even put it low and my dog can still handle the extreme temps that a working dog has to endure. plus ive notice with having him in our bond is better than when he was out and he works better as hes trying to impress me all the time. to earn the right of coming in the house.
