  1. Getting to like the sound of these TX guns, would make a nice partner to my S410. May have to start a secret saving fund somewhere.
  2. Nice enjoyable write-up and always good to try different things.
  3. Just like many of you lot it was far too nice an evening to be indoors so what better way to spend the last couple of hours of daylight than sat up in the copse at one with nature. So after a tea of bunny burgers made last week I set off and was sat up in the top part of the copse so that I could both watch the area in front of the old warren: As well as some open trees that were drawing in a few pigeons a few weeks back: Soon after getting comfortable there were a few pigeons coming in but all were heading for the thicker cover and even though some came within 20 yards o
  4. Great shooting. Be interesting to see what comes along and takes that telegraph pole pigeon.
  5. Good shooting keeping those beans safe.
  6. Nice permission, looks like it's going to hold a lot of interesting opportunities. The pea drilling sounds good, they don't do much of that round here but like Villaman says leave the shottie at home and try decoying with the airgun with maybe a sitty tree nearby.
  7. Nice going, a great bag. The warm weather has definitely brought them out down here. Was going to go again myself today but family came first so entered your county of Dorset and went to Seatown for the day. Snorkelled around and got a spider crab and a plaice that was caught up on some lost tackle. Bit cold and needed the hood. Keep up the good shooting.
  8. Great days shooting, and improvising and making do with what's available
  9. Great shooting with nice variety. Not many squirrels round here.
  10. Well it was a nice warm evening so what better way to start the weekend than with a little walk around with the lamp. Needed to wait until after the ten'o'clock news before it was dark enough to venture out. Made sure the S410 had enough air, loaded up the magazines and collected some spare batteries for the Ultrafire torch. First stop was a ten minute walk up the road to the allotments and decided to approach from the neighbouring grass field. Unfortunately there were sheep with lambs in here so I needed to make a detour round the edge of the field so as not to panic them. It was a very s
  11. I'll keep this brief and apologise for no photos this time (I know how much you appreciate them). Well tried a bit of decoying but the pigeons were not around. First tried a planted field where we had 13 a few weeks back but there was just nothing around. Gave it till midday then decided to up sticks and try our own bit of land which is natural organic pasture so the clover may bring them in. Set up under our oak tree with the usual brolly hide and put out the deeks. Well it was very slow with just two to show for our afternoon efforts and one rabbit taken at 58 yds with a clean headshot.
  12. Was asked to get on top of the rabbits at the allotments up the road. Had already taken half a dozen recently with the S410 but thought ought to show face with the ferrets to at least show that we're doing something about it. So as Saturday was nice and cool thought it would be okay, then Sunday arrives and its like a summers day (more like Sirblessed's Australia). Fresh stinging nettles, brambles and short sleeves do not go well together. Tried round the allotments and missed the first one which sliipped out of an unseen hole. Then the next three holer yielded a quarter grown rabbit that was
  13. Good luck for Sunday morning. I had stopped ferreting for the year but have been asked to clear some out near some allotments and surrounding crop fields so they'll be put to use tomorrow. May expect some lay-ups but that's the problem with mild winters nowadays. Then it'll be back to keeping on top of them with the S410 pcp.
  14. Hello OldCoppice, Welcome from another Somerset member, great county isn't it. Looking forward to some posts. Chris
  15. Wow! That sounds like a super red letter day, well done.
  16. Keep out of our county House prices too high there anyway. Just like to travel in for a bit of sport and head home to share the spoils. Also the sea fishing is excellent.
  17. Very nice eel and interesting way that it was caught. Personally I would also of returned it but they do taste nice. Used to catch loads on the River Parrett but now they have almost vanished (elver fishing? parasite? or global warming upsetting the Gulf Stream? Who knows?). Last time I saw one on the Parrett was when it was being eaten by an otter, thankfully they now have the Signal Crayfish to consume.
  18. Nearest is just outside, can see the rabbits from the bedroom window but I'm not risking a 90yd shot. Nearly all permissions (eight farms / small-holdings) all surround the house as well as our own land up the road (10 minute walk). Then some recent permissions asked to do are some big productive arable fields 10 minute drive away and then a football ground / parish council / car-boot land 20 minutes drive away. Also some permissions over into Dorset but that's a 30 minute drive away.
  19. Definitely within the rules round here. We work closely with the EA who have given us invaluable and free advice in assisting us improve the fishery for everyone. They have over the last year given us free of charge over 8000 coarse fish which have included roach, chub and perch. With all the stick that the EA gets from the public over the last few years we can't praise them enough for all the help they've given us.
  20. All within the rules and methods for our area of the UK
  21. Down here its trout season on the rivers from 1st April to the 31st October. For coarse fishing the close season is 15th March till the 15th June. We have 11 miles of fishing mostly coarse fishing and with the upper sections devoted to wild brown trout (split into fly only and other methods sections). All for a season ticket price of just £15.
  22. Decided I wanted some nice wild brown trout for tea. So this morning took the light worming gear to the upper snaggy section on our club waters. Travelling really light using just a size 6 on a flouro 4 lb link with one SSG to aid casting. This section allows worm, spinner or fly but with the amount of snags in the water and overhead cover worming is the only way. Usual method I employ is cast to a snag and then just lay the rod in the vegetation and just sit back and wait for the tip to swing round. First swim produced nothing but the second got the first pull and a 14" brownie was in the
