Nice shooting and great to see the barn owls. Have you tried sitting tight and squeaking the barn owls over? its quite amazing how close they get with no sound from them. On moonlight nights I will take the dog out and stand by the edge of a copse and see what owls I can squeak in.

These were from a recipe found in Mathew Manning's airgun hunting book. Basically its dicing the breast meat up and mixing with sausage meet and herbs then rolling the whole lot up in puff pastry and baking for 25 minutes. I made eight yesterday and four was more than enough for a family tea, the other four are in the fridge to have as a snack latter or take to work.

Popped out this morning for a couple of hours after some more brownies. Bit of a slow start today and it was well past the hour till the first bite occurred. By this time I found that just flicking out the worm and swan shot into a deeper channel upstream of a snag and leaving the rod resting in the nettles whilst I sat back hidden below the skyline and waited for the best part of fifteen minutes each time seemed to do the trick. Tried some really snaggy swims and sat back watching the treecreepers whilst having one finger feeling for bites: Ended with my limit of two nic

Well for tea yesterday I made up a load of those pigeon sausage rolls (Mathew Manning recipe) and they were gorgeous and the kids loved them. So lets see if I can get a few more pigeons in the evening. Left the house at 7pm and walked up to the copse and was settled by ten past: Sat within range of the big old warrens but was really after the pigeons and so was not worried that I was upwind of the burrows. When I arrived half a dozen woodies left so I hoped more would be coming in. Covered myself up leant against a tree and pulled a small camo net over me. After 20 minutes a rabbi

I can't stand any more politics on the idiot box so I just had to get out. Fitted the red ultrafire and was out the house by 10:30pm. Walked into the first field and walked quietly halfway up the hedgeline before switching on the ultrafire and having a scan. That's odd no rabbits out, maybe Mr Fox has beaten me to it? Carried on up to the barn before having another scan to see one jump into the hedge, scanned the field and saw one sat out at about 60 yrds. Torch off crept over counting 30 strides, set up on the sticks, torch on he's still there, squeeze of the trigger and a perfect shot pl

Hi Toby, No they are still definitely there. And when I look back at another post I made taking a photo from the same photobucket album that one has remained which makes it all seem a bit odd. Chris

Hi, Just started putting a few more write-ups on the forums (airgun hunting and fishing). Initially I put images up using photobucket like last year and I always do a preview to check they are working. When posted the last week or so they appear fine for a few days and then the images disappear leaving just a 'sorry image has been deleted or moved' statement. I guess this may be a settings issue with Photobucket so if anyone can solve this it would be much appreciated. Never had this problem last year. Regards Chris

New Member Wanting Opinions On Pcp Air Rifles
chrismdd replied to Paul Spen's topic in General Airgun Discussion
My s410 is a 2003 model yet it has no scratches or signs of screw heads that have been bodged by an amateur gunsmith. Generally the gun should have a good clean well cared for look. I would also insist on having a good few shots at range so may need to organise somewhere to try it out. In terms of whether it within the legal limit you may need to take it soon after purchase to gunsmith to have it tested and adjusted if necessary. Mine was pushing out AA diablos (my choice of pellet) at 11.8 ft/lb, but when we put some Bisley magnums through it it became a firearm with over 12.3 ft/lb so it -
New Member Wanting Opinions On Pcp Air Rifles

I originally last year was going to buy a new single shot ultra as this was the limit of my budget. I had sourced a the best possible retailer and then a friend noticed a secondhand pre-tamper S410 in .177 that came up on a private add in a Countrywide store. It included a 3-20x50 Hawke scope, bottle connector and guage, four mags and two tins of pellets. Got it for £275 and in the 12 months since it has been an extremely efficient bunny / pigeon basher and has only had one hiccup in that time. So keep a look out for the small ads as good deals do come along. -
I must confess that they were caught on freelined worm. On this part of the river you're allowed to fish for them from the 1st April using worm, lure or fly. But due the snags and the inaccessibility issues and all the overhanging trees the worm is the only way. As part of the club which is mainly coarse fishing on 11 miles of river we have just opened up a further trout section for fly only where the banks are low and clear and there is a good head of wild brownies.

Took the lad down to the river this morning to catch some wild brownies for tea. Its a very snaggy small river and we're probably the only ones who fish it as it is vastly overgrown with steep banks covered in nettles. So travelling light with an extendible landing net is the order of the day. The limit here is two fish over 10" and we caught our first one within 15 minutes of starting, last another 20 minutes later and caught our limit soon after. Back home within the hour before 9am: We just cook them simple filled with some freshly squeezed lemon and herbs, all wrapped in foil

I've started decoying pigeons with the airgun since last summer when we started on a pea field. It has been a steep learning curve and I gained a lot of helpful advice from some guys off the airarms owners club website when I purchased my S410 last year. The key things I'm now starting to learn for success is create a good hide which stops you being lit up from behind (that's where the fishing brolly comes in useful), make sure you're comfortable (nice lightweight fishing chair) and have a secure support for the rifle so that it can be slid around (that horizontal bar system works a treat, far

Today was our first session on the pigeons. A couple of days ago I had seen a good number of pigeons feeding on some fresh drilling. So we set up the fishing brolley hide at 9:30am and set out all the fud decoys. From our experiences last year we positioned ourselves with the light winds directly behind us and made a gap in the decoy pattern for incoming birds to land directly in front of us. Also I set up a rest bar for us to steady our rifles on (will need to add some foam insulation plus camo tape for next time). There were a total of three fields that the pigeons wer

After the disappointing short trip the other day when the S410 decided to vent all its air at the crucial moment today was time to put things right. After getting the rifle back up to pressure I spent the morning putting 15 mags of pellets through it trying out various ranges from 20 to 60 yds to get back into form and keep a check on the pressure reading. Zeroed at 30yds and happy with groupings out to 40yds but not confident with 50 or 60 like last year, so 40 would be my maximum killing range today. Earlier in the day set up the hide by the veggie patch and settled down at 7pm after

Hi Graham, You will love the S400. I purchased my first pcp last year a secondhand 2003 S410 and it is absolutely fantastic. In the 12 months that I have owned it I have shot over 150 rabbits and have had great sessions decoying pigeons. A friend who I shoot with has a HW100 which is a great rifle but I still prefer the AA (it just looks the part), he also brings along his second rifle which is a S410 Carbine which in my opinion is a fantastic piece of kit to use in confined spaces such as when hide shooting. Just zeroed up my S410 now the evenings are getting lighter and the ferreting

Too windy around here at the moment for some serious airgun hunting sessions so my lad wanted a task to do to while a way the holidays. We've been beating on a small local shoot for the past three years and he takes great enjoyment in collecting all the used shells from the shooters at the end of the day. We have hundreds of them  So after doing endless marble competitions indoors and using some for plinking practise outdoors we needed a real project for some of them so today on his eighth birthday we finished this set of 100 fairy lights: Chris

Your thoughts please: Up until last year I kept three jill ferrets and had the vets give them the jill jab. Round here the prices varying between different vets was incredible. At the top end they wanted nearly £90 to do all three (which included a small animal consultation and check-up - whatever that is?), this was my local vet and in the end I went further afield to a more agricultural vet who did all three for £45. I enquired with this vet about getting a hob and having him vesectomised. They said they should be able to do this for about £100. So last year I acquired two more jill

As I remember we motored out to the right of Bude, we went through a load of pinnacle rocks on the way out to collect some bait. On one of the trips I remember seeing that secret listening base on the coast with all those big white domes. Once we quietly motored over to a basking shark and got within a few metres of it, an amazing sight.

However, the fishing rights can belong to someone else other than the land owner regardless if there is a public right of way. Used to fish for the barbel up on the Wye and a chap used to own a lot of bankside land before selling it off but he kept the fishing rights for others to come and fish. Our own fishing club down here has about eleven miles of river and we have the co-operation of the landowners and just charge £15 for a season ticket. At xmas all the landowners get a card, booze, chocolates and biscuits to keep them happy. The club also legally owns the fishing rights on a couple of f

A good few years ago I fished a few times for porbeagles out of Bude. They used to come in following the vast shoals of pollack which we used on traditional balloon rigs set to drift in a slick trail that we put out. At times the sport was very frantic when they were on the feed and we were often fishing well within a mile of the coast. Three of us would book the charter to allow a good share of the runs. Did cost us over £ each for the day, and now with a mortgage and kids those days are long gone. Remember one of those sessions when my mate hooked up to a real monster that he played for

Wasn't too sure if we would get out today due to the overnight rain and gales and early morning gloominess. But thankfully the weather turned out great just after nine so pleased we persevered. In fact it was still so mild that butterflies were still about! so no chance of the vegetation having died back yet. Myself and my young son were joined today by Luke and his dog Tess, and we headed up to the stubble fields. Had planned on doing a hedge that held a lot of rabbits but the cover was so thick that we knew we would spend too much time netting up and probably still lose some in the bramb

Great fishing on running water thats a nice bit of water there. Remember seeing a four double figure carp (three commons and a mirror) under the town bridge a few years ago. Also have you tried for the grayling down beyond the back of B&Q, they produce some cracking sport when the temperatures drop.

Top shooting. Were they coming into roost or feeding during the day?

Great shooting, what's your favourite rabbit recipe?
