Well we managed to get out with the ferrets today on and near the same field. Was a slow start as the ferrets weren't keen to start off and we did question our sanity trying to ferret in hot conditions with waist high nettles. It was a catch-22 situation, do you get hot wearing long sleeves or stay cool in a t-shirt but get stung all over. My arms are tingling all over but we did catch a few. Roll on the cooler days and maybe some frosts down here this year:

With time at a premium at the moment what with work and family commitments I've only managed a few trips out recently after rabbits and pigeons. Last Saturday and today I've taken my young lad along for a couple of decoying sessions of no longer than a few hours each in the late afternoons. The first of these last Saturday we drove into a couple of stubble fields and found a few pigeons in one area so set up there only to realise that the close proximity of a major A-road behind us made the noise unbearable so we upped sticks after half an hour and moved to the other side of the field. Got

Good going, well worth the wait and patience.

Great shooting. I do like the look of wood on my guns but must admit that the two tone effect you've put on yours looks fantastic.

Top shooting. -
Good choice of gun and nice shooting. I've got a 2003 model and it is spot on so you will have many many years of quality use out it. Keep us informed of your sessions. Chris

Mate came up today for a bit of pigeon decoying. Unfortunately a lot of the wheat fields have not been cut due to the wet weather and the crop is starting to look a bit dark with a touch of mildrew, so not a good time for the farmers round here. Unperturbed we set off to the fields that had been good last year and found an area where the rabbits had eaten back the crop and so set up hoping we could entice some pigeons in to land. We gave it a couple of hours but apart from a couple of fly-bys by pigeons and one crow that landed (and I missed) nothing much else was around so we decided to u

Nice shooting I didn't know this!! As I've only got a S410 but my mates coming down Sunday with his HW100 so I'll check it out.

Great start there, and nice video clip. Wish we had open warrens like that round here. All thick hedges and waist high nettles. We're lucky if we can start mid-September. Cheers for posting, made me get up and start checking over the gear for the coming season.

That's an amazing bag of rabbits and good shooting. Can only guess at the damage they had been causing.

Nice shooting, did you use a lamp or night vision?
-
Just the .177. I do have an old FWB Sport 127 in .22 but that doesn't get any use at the moment. I've had the S410 for about 18 months my first pcp. It's pre AT came with four ten shot mags plus a bottle connector and gauge although I use an FX pump. Cost me £275 and apart from one hiccup when it vented all it's air it has been a great gun.

With the awful weather we've had recently round here there have not been many trips out and with the lack of crops cut the pigeons are still on hold. So taking note of Villaman's recommendation of using AA Express pellets in .177 I ordered a tin off the web and when they arrived started putting them through their paces. Straight away I compared them to my current AA Fields and needed to adjust zero slightly at 30 yards and then noticed the groupings were considerably tighter. Shooting a full mag of each I was getting all pellet touching groups with no flyers with the Express's compared to

Good going, Its amazing what's around in the early hours.

Great numbers there. With my S410 .177 I currently use the AA Fields 8.4gr but may well give those Express ones ago. Do you find the lighter weight makes much effect to hitting power at range? is the trajectory much flatter?
-
Lamped them with a red cree lamp a few months ago with some success. The only trouble was that I was nearly tripping over the numerous badgers that have increased considerably in the area. Will give it ago later in the year and also give my DIY NV kit a go.

Had to get a load of fencing posts yesterday for my old man to extend his veggie patch and fruit garden and to help stop the continued attacks from the increasing numbers of rabbits round here. As I drove the trailer up into the field there were a good number of rabbits already out in the middle of the day so planned a little trip up there in the evening after first identifying a few areas where they were coming out to feed. Came back at 8pm and due to the light breeze needed to set up in the furthest corner: After a chunk of malt loaf and and a swig of water I put my head down fo

Nice shooting. You're right you never know what's down them holes. During the ferreting season I'm always shoving my arm down holes to pull bunnies out, thankfully my ferrets have only bit me by accident in this situation. Although when I ferreted as a kid I did have a rat run up my arm and out the hole. At the end of last season we had fun with a weasel giving the ferrets a run around for half an hour before they gave up chasing.

Used fud decoys Those fuds are excellent, they are what we had all our successes on last year. The pigeons seem to land okay within them giving enough time to aim and fire. Have got a load of full bodied decoys now gathering dust in the garage so may well b

Excellent bag there. Did you decoy the woodies or take them from trees?
-
Nice shooting, always gets the heart racing when trying to get shots on cautious woodies coming into trees. Are the sparrowhawks wild birds or ones that you fly? Not a common bird to raise as most do harris or goshawks.

.177 using AA fields gives me the greatest confidence with this gun. Off the bipod with no wind I get pellet touching groupings at 30yds. I tried on the same day a tin of JSB Exacts believing them to be a better pellet but my did the groupings open up so I'm going to stick with the fields.

Nice going, that decoy does the job. I've just bought one of those cheap hawk decoys to try and will first be painting it up to match the prolific buzzards that hang around here and are often seen being mobbed by the corvids.

Well having just returned from a family holiday in North Cornwall it was time to check out what was about and see if much of the crops had been cut. Ten minute drive and arrived at my furthest permission to find that the corn was golden but not yet cut so pigeon decoying will have to wait a bit longer. Walked through a crop field and entered a cut grass field to see a good number of rabbits on the far hedge line but decided to continue to the small hay field where I had some good successes last year. Set up near a corner and due to the high grass in at the edges that provided good cover I

Same old story (must start going after some corvids or pigeons soon). Anyway arrived at the ravaged wheat field at a 7:30pm to be greeted by road closure signs, oh well the benefits of driving an old Disco I managed to drive up the embankment and across a little ditch to park up by the field. Decided this time to go straight to the well eaten corner. As I wandered over I spied a few out there already and by using patches of standing crop managed to stalk up and bag one early on. Then went and set up the net and poles up in the top corner but downwind of the buries. Loads of nettles all
