Peg and gun your right the poles in the pic are just hazle i grabbed from the shed, didnt think people would study the pic in such detail i have a smaller diam pair of poles somewhere(cant find them in the mess of the shed) but like yourself when the grounds hard i use a pair of wire rod rests with the tops nipped short. Your right it what youve said about snareman and his knowlidge, man if i had a tenth of [bANNED TEXT] he knows stored in my head i would be a learned man. Mind you, this post has brought about some lines of thought for many to share with each other so that can only be a go

Ditch mate ,i was only kidding about it being gaudy as i knew it would get a rise from you.. I spent 2yrs living on a 1956 wooden broads cruiser, a dream of mine for many years. A real labour of love but well worth the time. Go for it mate and live your dreams why you can

Who would have thought a ball of string and a few bits of wood could keep grown men amused for ages, i know what im sending you all for xmas

You are correct it what you have been told, wire sliders would make it slide like velvet. as for a ring i cant see that it would be any worse than a slider. Perhaps you could have a go at making one to your own spec and let us know how the results faired

the bottom line as with all nets needs to be on the floor for it to work properly

With all this talk on here and the renewed interest in longnetting i thought i would share this piece of kit with you all. Many years ago now i started netting rabbits but soon was shown that hares can be netted as well. Those of us who observe hares will tell you of thier highways and byways of travel, most of them going through gateways. Now this is where many years later i was able to get hold of a copy of Gate Netting by GS Waters. All you netters get a copy. So i must admit i wasnt the founder of this lovely bit of kit, wish i was mind. the net in this pic is 15ft long and is he

i havnt used hoop snares, not for rabbits anyway  i know a lot of people use the wire type and thats fine like you say as long as there catching, each to there own. I have made and used the wire tealers before, and like you said,if you havnt got the right gear to make them they can be the devils own. Im not for one moment saying my methods best as i know from exp it the trapper that holds the knowledge. Perhaps that where my problem lays, i dont have the knowledge to make them Ive got both woodgas and Gs Waters dvds and yes they are the most info packed dvds there is,perhaps i s

was wondering how many snareman use the same type of rabbit snare as myself. I use the type where they are held in place with a hazle tealer as opposed to the methods used by GS Waters and Woodga. Im sure there isnt anything in the results gained by either method so please dont think im trying to start a wots better kind of thread,i dont wish for this to go the same way as the quickset Vs trad set longnets. I use this method as its what i know and perhaps out of my own lack of time i havnt made any of the fixed peg type. Just an idle pondering as to what type people are using around the

Nows the time to go and cut some shanks, hazle, black thorn, ash cherry and hawthorn all make good sticks. cut them now and work on them next year when there nice and dry(each type takes a certain lenght of time to dry properly) Hazle shanks can be bought from country fairs dryed and nice and straight ready to work a good book for the beginer is The craft of stick making by Leo Gowen, cost me 50p from a book club out of countrymans weekly Heres one i got of an old boy i know he made it for thr liberty & livelyhood march just ge

ive used the HW95k for a few yrs now in standard trim. At 45 yrds with good shot placement it will drop all your air rifle quarry no probs. I have had an HW80 at 26 ft lbs on a fac and to be honest, if your going to get an fac you may as well get a rimfire.

When is Britian going to get back its Great? When it comes to an old lady going about her every day life and becoming a vitim of some arsehole, just stand back and watch all the fecked up do gooders within parlarment, raise their eyes skyward in contempt of this poor ladys suffering. will they stand up and say what every Eglishman,Scotsman and Welshman who live by there fecked up rules are thinking? i doubt it, Why? because they are to fecking spineless to do what they are paid to do, govern for the best of this nations poulation instead of making this so called green and pleasant

Today i had the pleasure of an invite to ferret some land that i dont suppose has been ferreted for some years. Considering the whole of suffolk seems to be in a myxi fueled rabbit drought i didnt expect large numbers to grace our nets, but was more than happy to except the invite. Its always a pleasure to spend the day in good company out in the field, even more so when the weather is shining as it has been today, end of novenber be damned,it felt more like early spring. I for one have done my fair share of undergrowth clearing and im not scared to get stuck in but i must admit, i was a little

whats the point of messing about with an allternitive which is meant for horses when sa37 is only a few quid? jesus knows we spend enough time and effort and even hard cash on our dogs, so why spoil it for a measly couple of quid? Wots it going to cost you,at the most a tenner. S@*t when i go to the pet shop i buy so much each month the cost of this stuff doesnt even stand out.

golf course's can be a pain in the a@*e,people nicking your traps, kicking them over, grounds man running them over with the lawn mower, but they are a good source of income. I have 3 golf courses on my books and ive approached them in all the same manner. no1. get them to agree a long term arrangment, 6 or 12mths no2. get them to agree a price and stage payments no3. get them to agree that they will replace any stolen or damaged traps at market value no4. get it all down on a signed piece of paper. price wise i look at cost spent traveling to the job, time spent checking the traps and

no offence taken , looks like you are a former tackle tart yourself :11: I am that, spent a lot of cash on crap that doesnt realy do as it says on the tin (mostly carp fishing gear)thats why i now stick to what i know works. That said, none of us should become blinkered in to thinking our methods are the only type that will get results.as has been said so many times befor,if it works for you and all that...... all the best for the remander of this season :11:

just a question,if trammels come from a fishing back ground,do you think that fisherman will adopt the long net?
-
Not without me yer not ! bloody poacher, next you will be telling me you want half the catch
-
your right there moley, shouldnt knock it till you try it. the new found desire to use trammel nets isnt a new idea,i was using them back in the late 80s. I dont know what sort of ground you work but most,if not all my ferreting is around or under or through hedgerows and ive found that trammels pick up far to much s!@t in this case. im not saying for one moment that they dont work as i know they do. as for the comment about tackle tarts, just a joke, didnt men to offend anyone. Reminder to myself: must stop upsetting the more sensitve hunters on this site

there you go again nettrigger, giving away all you hard earnt knowldge for feck all MMMmmmm trammel nets, one for the tackle tarts

sorry to hear about your bad luck. when i was a kid i had possible the same. out ferreting and one of me ferrets got at me sanies, didnt think much of it till i got home.ferret was the same as yours, curled up and was in pain as each time you touched it it screamed. on closer inspection it had eaten some of the foil wrapper. All i can offer is to hazzard a guess that eating any tin foil,be it a sarnie wrapper or a food tray is not good. God only knows what it does to there insides.
