    Best guard dog's

my mate owns neopolitains and they do the job well, however he has black russian terriers as well which make the neo's look tame.
  2. they used to be fairly rare here too, lucky a german lady had the sence to import a dd bitch a few years back, that bitch is on both sides of that pups pedigree. i thought ya dog looked a little too well put together to be an akc gwp i am getting a vom kerinshoff drahthaar pup in april so i will be keen to see how they compare to my own dogs, may end up importing another male from the states in time to increase the gene pool pups dad.
  3. depends on what you regard as a wire coat, this little guy has a harsh coat already, he won't get the long wooly coat alot of gwp's have and will have plenty of beard and a nice close fitting coat......just like his dad, they get a little bit of lenght but it comes out in the field and in the summer.
  4. very nice looking pup mate, you are in a ton of fun with that little fella. here's one of of my dogs pups at 3 months......badger.
  5. first rule we was taught, if ya drop ya knife don't try and catch it.......they bite don't you have a hide puller that takes it off the head ???????? just curious
  6. don't they teach you guys that you never try to catch anything falling in the meat industry wag hope ya hand gets better soon.
  7. the landowners pay for the rabbit control on some of the large stations and if your average uk lurcherman saw the rabbit numbers in central otago he would soon wear the feet off any dog and go back to using a rifle and shotgun....they are in the millions mate and why do it for free when you can get paid to do it for a job
  8. i read some where a group of nz choppers crews were doing the culling in scotland. rabbit and wallaby control is with a 8 shot benelli and alot of ammo
  9. choppers are so much more cost effective with the terrain we have here. new zealand invented the chopper cull and live capture using netguns and in the early days simply jumping off the skids onto the deer and yeah we invented bungy jumping too we have alot of smaller choppers down south that buzz around with a pilot and shooter just blasting everything from deer to chamois and thar in the mountains, search and destroy missions funded by the tax payer. plenty of landowners also use a chopper to control rabbits as well.
  10. always taught to look for bricks when huntng hares, if it looks like a brick from a distance chances are it's a hare. if you can walk up to it without it bolting and kick it........it's a brick
  11. yeah i'm pretty confident but not cocky been shooting bailed pigs with my dogs for many years, and i do have a wee bit of experience with alot of rifles.
  12. the farm in question is our family farm. shame you have decided to judge the whole forum on one post. not sure being a mod has anything to do with it by the way i follow the same rules as everybody else. if if offends anybody thats been here longer than five posts i'll remove the thread.
  13. check the zero was my excuse to waste a 2506 round on the hare, i already knew it was ok i will ask you all a question, if you was out and saw a fox in a lambing paddock chewing a new born lamb with the ewe standing there would you shoot the fox......and if you did would you call it 'sport' or control. we don't have foxes in nz but we do have lamb killers that we do shoot when they get a taste for mutton, i have no problem shooting around stock, you get used to making the call on whats safe and whats not, including knowing the capabilites of the rifle or shotgun you have in hand. this is
  14. it's only dangerous in your minds eye mate. you might think it looks bad but for any one thats done a bit of shooting it's just a headshot hare at the end of the day. the wind was not an issue, as stated it was a 2506, well known for it's ability to handle wind better than a 22 cal. the back stop was soft black sand and as clearly seen the angle was huge. the shot was taken off the front porch of our beach bach and is part of the farm pest control programme, meaning you take the shots as they present themselves. we shoot plenty of feral cats along the same stretch of sandunes so it was ha
  15. well it's from new zealand very good for cuts and rips on dogs and great for removing the dirt from grazes. not too bad on ya toast as well
  16. if your eye for a dog can pick up major or minor conformation faults then you should trust it, have the strenght to walk away from a litter that has a crap sire or dam of in some cases both, if the working strenghts of one or the other parents is the main reason for the litter look at the quality of the sire or dam used to carry it on, both phyically and workwise. look at the parents then look at the pups....don't matter if it purebred or crossbred.
  17. here's my kennels new girl on the block, already showing a keen intrest in deer..6 weeks old.
  18. for the record book, this is new zealand, coursing hares is not done alot here, why bother when gun ownership is so easy three hares can eat as much as a sheep so they get the bullet when the farmers needs them thinned out a bit. the shot was perfectly safe lewismac, it is a 2506 not a lite .22 cal and the cattle are used to it i'll get the range next time with a range finder as i counted 300 paces when i inspected the carnage, i shot a bunny at half the distance which had very little damage til i kicked it over and the bits fell out....goo shot av if ya wanna see it
  19. We have spoke of this before! Without a central register and point of contact how will lads who want one know where to get one from? You can import all the teckels you want but without someone (the teckel society) keeping their pedigree and registering the litters, it descends into hit and miss and opens it up to charlatans and puppy peddlars (passing off hybrids or KC dachshunds, or rescues or something else) I advocate the Teckel society, yes the going rate for Cat A (pure imported working stock) Teckels is between £500-£650, but the society is about a stud register first and forem
