  1. there is a good dozen or so video's on the market here already if ya want to see it, we have it on prime time tv as well lately here. with the dogs holding as well. the new bawson bliss pighunting dvd is suppose to be a good watch.
  2. thats flat compared to the south island pighunting in nz usally means ya walking up one hill and running down another
  3. yeah still warm, had alot of rain and warm days so the grass is growing well, having the odd eastly wind helps the early starts, plenty of fish around too so plenty of kai. shot my limit on ducks and pheasants yesterday too and had no camera to record it lol. trying to get them on video clip in the swamp drained it. hows the weather like at home shane? that big white kuri doing well?
  4. with the days getting shorter and it cooling down the pigs have turned to rooting up the paddocks again. we tend to kill alot of smaller stuff early winter and get the bigger pigs later on when the tucker gets a bit short. anyway got a few smaller pigs that had been turning the ground over including a good sow. typical rooting, you guys ova in pommyland should be seeing abit of this by now with ya boar numbers building up. a nice little gully that the pigs seem to come out on about 2pm each day, hence the rifle. just love that veiw, finders have gone waiting for the bark, sow was caught in the
  5. that would be in the high 400kgs aaron, alot bigger than wat we get down under those "nut dogs" are popular in nz, but the traditional ball grabber has been the fox terrier, not the short leggered little yapper jrt. the old foxy can sit down a fair sized boar and have it sceaming for his momma, it is one of the funnest things to watch.
  6. yeah ya right chilli, wat you guys have running around is the true wild boar which can grow alot bigger than wild pigs, but alot depends on the tucker they have and the time they have to grow. i would be using the smaller dogs myself as they can take the knocks betta than the bigger dogs and a rifle lol. but most will be able to be caught with a few lurchers and a few holders.
  7. it's a sheep killer mate putting ya mate down for committing the ultimate sin for a hunting dog is not a sign of a bad dogman or taking the easy way out, it's a honest and reponsible action in our country and not a pleasant experience at all, plenty of good dogs have gone this way. some dogs get a taste for sheep it's a sad fact. not trying to be unhelpful but telling it as it is.
  8. shoot the bloody thing. the electric collar is no good when the trust has been broken. the collar would have worked when it was a pup but after two sheep the dogs buggered in my eyes. just hope the rest of your pack gets the message, a bit of retraining and increase the stock contact as much as possible will help heaps.
  9. well i can comment on this, we have a dozen or so in the kennels they wouldn't add anything to a lurcher cross, apart from the likelyhood of it barking it's head off. they do get used on pigs here but are worth too much as working dogs to risk getting them ripped up by a boar. the proper name is "huntaway" the refers to the fact they cast off and hunt out sheep when mustering. they push sheep and make good yard dogs, able to work from sun up to sun down barking all day in some pretty harsh weather, it's one of the two dogs born and bred in new zealand. they also come in long hair or coated si

  11. tend to give you a gin trap on legs, make great pigdogs but would think they would not catch too many rabbits as they are not fast enough, 3/4 bred would be a start. having whippet in a cross brings out the hunting drive and they make pretty good finding dogs.
  12. you got a picture of these doggies? if they are like ours or for any shark for that matter, they need to be truncked as soon as possible, cut off head, fins and tail, and gut. skin when you get home and eat the next day or freeze til needed. the ammonia will be stronger in the flesh if truncking is not done straight away and can be seen on flesh as a green tinge if left in the fridge to long.
  13. http://speights.co.nz/static.php?p=lwp shows a bit of the south island, there's a pighunting ad for another brand of beer that i'll try and find too.
  14. i have trapped possums since i was a kid, if you guys ever make it down under i'll take ya out on a trap line or poison line. cyanide is wicked stuff. shooting them and plucking the fur will give ya good money, about 85 bucks a kg, depending on the type of coons about 12 good size ones make up a kg. shooting a mob of goats like that here will be doing everyone a favor.
  15. don't use the word game really myself as the word in dogdom usally goes with the fighting breeds, we just call them 'hard'. and my choice is a good lab or german wirehair, the lab being my choice of breed to get my pigdogs off, airedales in my experience are born hard. also had a curly coated retrevier when i was a kid that would take on anything. the wirehair is my pick as a purebred for hunting in this country,nz.
  16. Bugger me, Kiwi, your right mate, it is made in Oz ya not he only one done time selling behind a counter lol
  17. sounds like ya made the call, had to do the same last week with my airedale x
  18. kye, glad i'm not the only one that has had a good run with a ruger, ya can shoot targets and paper all day but the 10/22 is a hunting rifle, always has been, i used the .44mag ruger for years and i guess the more ya shoot those rugers the better they get. hey baldie is that winchester made in aussie or the us, the aussie stuff is in a white box, they make a 40gr power point .22 that is awesome on small game pity you guys can't get that.
  19. great pic's mate, how far into the jaw did the tusk grow? see it missed the grinder well and truely, it used to be common to knock out the grinders on young boars to make the hooks grow out like that.
  20. [bANNED TEXT] type of winchester you guys get over there???? the aussie stuff or the yank crap? we use our 10/22's and winchester power points for large mobs of goats with good results and subs on everything else. the difference between the types of ammo is huge and it pays to try them all, both for the rifle function and hitting power on game.
  21. had all three, sako,m77 and 10/22. still got the 10/22 after 20 years and loved the sako but traded down to a brno which was very good. the little ruger is my pick for spotlighting as a back up to my 223. they are used by the rabbit/possum council over here and see alot of ammo. they aren't in the same class as a sako but they do shot well after a trigger job and the right ammo.
  22. primo kennels alright, how do you get on with hosing them out? drainage etc and do you house two dogs together, looking at building a kennel block on a few acres and like that design alot.
  23. very smart pack of dogs if i ever had to hunt rats i'd want as many as possible too lol looks like fun
