  1. and a fair question it was too nelson :11: read my post again mate it was directed at lamping lurchers comment about shed load of money for a pup  as ya point out most gun dogs have a average going rate, it's the bit that stated 50-100 pounds to working homes that got my back up. in gundog circles money does buy you quality. it costs money to get that good working stock over from europe where the breeding is strictly regulated, to sell the offspring at a fiver so it could possibley get crossed with another breed and undo all the hard work done over the years is just dumb and not in
  2. same as everything lol depends on what you want and where you are, prices vary from £500-£800,i have a litter here at present, both parents low hip scores,£650. i can see you know what you are talking about mate, but thats a shedload of money! wouldn't you prefer them to go to good working homes and sell em at £50-£100 each? just seems like a huge amount of money, and as im sure you know, money doesnt guarantee quality. JMO shame on you to question the cost of a well breed pup l/l. if thats the going rate and you want that breed thats [bANNED TEXT] ya pay simple. all my pups go t
  3. yeah they are flies, the dam things have ears and show up not long after the rifle shot. always use winchester supremme for fallow frank, have the loading gear but too lazy to handload :11: have a few boxes of coyote ammo that i'm gonna blast on goats on sat, works out about 70 cents a round, about 15p your money i think shoot a few hares with some last nite and they seem to be good, hornardy projectiles help. have shot heaps of deer with the .223 including red stags no worries, just head and neck shots only of course.
  4. log onto this site and post up a request, plenty of hunters from the top of the south there.http://www.monteriaboarhunts.co.nz/forum/index.php
  5. its too far away from me but give me a few days and i'll see [bANNED TEXT] i can do.
  6. nz is the same size as the uk bro maybe an idea which part you will be staying in will help aye.
  7. well with the weather heating up and my broken leg almost fixed i decided to sort out the empty space in the deep freeze, spring is in full swing, lambs and rabbits everywhere and the deer have been getting stuck into the fresh grass. i took the 223 and the gwp on a mission for a spiker and it didn't take long for the dog to find the first mob, mostly hinds and antlerless stags but after hobbling around for a hour a small mob of yearlings and spikers was picked up by my the gwp in a bushy gully, very impressed with the 200meter point on deer i couldn't even see :11: bit of a crawl bipod down
  8. here's annie with another couple of her victims from today, she was on fire and indicated these from about 200 meters in some scrub. have posted the rest under the shooting section
  9. congrats all round hows mum doing?
  10. :11: so [bANNED TEXT] we see on tv with the posh shooting is correct, thats not hunting lol, be an experiance for sure, we have english type shoots popping up allover the place and i done some work on one years ago. gwp-gsp competely different dogs, more than just a coat differance, the gsp is more birdy where as the wire was bred for big game as well.
  11. have run and breed labs before these gwp's and found them to be exactly the same in doing as they are told, the worst thing ya can do is compare them to a shorthair, don't have a use for a dog thats gonna sit down a watch a dead bird, but for beating and wotnot i'm sure thats a requirement, they will hold a point for ages til ya ready to send them in to flush, which they do with no account for personal saftey, simalar to a springer, blackberry and gorse no problem the germans done right in breeding these dogs, hard buggas.training is not as easy as a lab but they bond very well to there owne
  12. we don't actually have shoots over here, the shooting is [bANNED TEXT] you guys call rough shooting i think. there are some paid shooting estates in some game areas, for the fat americans but not many. with the huge increase in ex poms coming into the country we can now buy gamebirds for release, previously the fish n game done all the releasing but now we can let go as many as we can, i would say shoots lock up alot of land so only a few people can shoot it but over here hunting is quite easy to get both private and public land, interesting how quick the expats try and lock everybody out once
  13. depends [bANNED TEXT] ya mean by steady, yes they are, i train them on birds first, ducks, geese, pheasant, turkeys, peacocks, quail even mynas out the back yard. they are easy to train on most game once you have a good stop and recall. they love the water and don't get restless waiting for the ducks to fly in.
  14. i would start feeding them a good puppy chow twice a day and let mum top them up as they require, i feed my lactating bitches the same food as the pups and as much as she wants to eat, i wouldn't be in a hurry to get them off mum but they should be weaned off about the 6 week mark unless mum still wants to top them up longer. keeping the worming up and the bitch in good condition will give them a great start. [bANNED TEXT] breed are they
  15. pigs with dogs mate :11:
  16. had a vizsla after i lost my first gwp, beautiful temp and nice hunting style bit short of guts though but for birds and fur great, had wei's as a kid and they where great dogs but the hunting blood is a bit short on the ground in this country and ya would have to go through a few dogs to find a working one. the show people have stuffed the breed up.
  17. hi steve, i have never had a prob with the males around other dogs, but the bitches seem too like a good punch up, no worries really as they are not aggressive, just not afraid to step outside with other dogs after a few words :11: they have plenty of game sense and are so easy to hunt.
  18. went out for a ride today on the polaris and took my pointer out for a run and to knock over a few goats, we got lucky as she flushed a porker out for the .22 instead go the gwp
  19. disturbed's got a roo dog. more of a longdog mix, grey and staghound.
  20. bull arabs are pigdogs, not roo dogs :11:
  21. if ya go to to boardogs oldskool there is a few pic's of older bull arabs, the breed has been tidied up in looks. they seem to be adding different breeds in some lines, pity as it ruins the hard work done ova the years.
  22. yes have used foxterriers in the past, thinking of importing some jadg's at some stage. we tend to catch our pigs along way away from the ute, way back in the hills.noise is not an issue in nz. although pighunting in the pines certainly breeds a faster running pig and dogs with a large percentage of sight hound are used. ridgebacks have been and gone in nz LL think they were lacking in something because they not used much now, on paper they appear to have wots needed for pighunting withot having to crossbreed. do you have boar around you???????
  23. they just not av down under to try :hmm:in the past aussie and nz have just used the traditional english dogs to breed a dog that suits the enviroment and climate.only in the last few decades with the introduction of newer breeds has the type of dog changed. terriers have been used for years, the old fox terrier was the breed most used, hard to find a good one these days with the jack russell becoming more popluar, more as a pet as they are not suitable for pigs. the old type type foxy is similar to the german jagd, and i would say [bANNED TEXT] the "jack russell' used to be like before it ch
  24. he should have the kill instinct at his age, he has got two soft breeds in his make up so he just needs time, chewing the arse is a greyhound trademark, once they get a hiding. a good scrag with a pelt might help? we use a pighead and skin on very young pups to give them a bit of a head start.
