  1. Housten, you have cleared the tower!
  2. If it sounds like a very high pitched fan it might be the turbo still spinning down. They do spin at 30000rpm. My old isuzu MU would do this occassionally. Try letting engine cool down abit before turning off, checl oil fill level as well. Cam
  3. How did thr interview go? Well I hope. Cam
  4. Blimey, swapped me old 805ir for a new 808 laser. Went out last night, what a massive improvement that was! Really chuffed as it's brought me nv+1 up to spec! I'd give it 9/10 overall. It would have got 10 if the beam could tighten up a wee bit more but other than that I reall can't fault it. If anyone out there is wondering how much better the laser is over the torch. Ir 805,x12 mag, rabbit seen clearly through x hairs, maybe 50yds. L808,x12,x hairs etc 100yds. Any nv air guys out there trying to decide, unless your ratting at close ranges go with the 808. I hope it dosent eat batteries thr wa
  5. Hi all and thanks for reading. I'm using a gen1+ with L805 ir illuminator and the second it gets slightly misty I loose virtually all night vision. Would a laser cut through the evening mist a bit better than my 805. Ps god do the ir's eat through batteries like I don't know what. Thanks for any advice. Regards,Cam
  6. sounds like he's trying to polish poo! get that suntan lotion out, St Kitts here we come..
  7. What a k..b, drive into permission, nv on, check zero, window down , beanbag ready, loaded, spot mr rabbit at 90yds,1st gear roll up, down to 60yds now, still no response, within 50yd,zoom in,range, yep mr rabbit still sitting there, Thump, down he goes.. Go to collect, bugger! He's stiff as a board and already dead a day! Gotta laugh,1st time in 30 years I've shot something already dead, Sure there's a lesson in there somewhere!! I did think he might have mixy but god what a plumb! Ho ho
  8. Nice one dude, which cals did you put in for?
  9. Am currently using gs20 pulsar with l805 ir lamp. The ONE thing that you must check is the eye piece end of the scope you want to go on it. The adopter that sits tightly on the scope end and is then tightend up. The eye adjustment ring on your scope will be the problem, hawke for instance have a knobbled eyepiece to aid adjustment ease but this actually results in your adopter not having much eye piece/rear end to grip too. Some other scopes have a smooth round eye piece adjuster which will fit your nv set up with better results. I know from experience (hawke on mine) and you may find that to g
  10. I use a pulsar ir 805. The 940 I think scott said wasn't suitable. If you get the nv challenger dos adopter you then have room for 2 of these torches! 1 is more than enough for shooting 60yds. Spotting 120plus. Never pushed it to see how far exactly.
  11. forgot i sold the old nvmt4, chaned it for a gs 20by1 gen+. Phone scott country and they'll tell you exactly which ir torch will be visible through certain nv kit. They are not all universal, i.e. some are ir and others are laser.
  12. NVMT4 (badged pulsar)with scope adopter plus ir from scotts country. In comparision to lamping its ruthless. If your quiet you can get with 20-30yds. I certainly spot rabbits at 90yds when attached to scope set at x3. To get a clear image rather than just glowing eyes is 60yds. More than enough for the job. One useful factor is that the add on to scope option means you can also use the a.o./px to range the rabbit. I place 3 small rubber sticky pads onto the px on the scope.wind her upto 12 mag and I know the 1st mark is 25yd,2nd is 40yd,3rd is 60yd. When mr talibunnys eye is in sharp focus you
  13. [bANNED TEXT] oh brother, SIMPLY GET ONE! I finally got a hawke lrf400 at the weekend(ottomers deddington/£95) and what a difference it made on the first night. Quite simply makes the difference between a good head shoot or either a miss or worse wounding. Certainly I felt more confident with itas I found that my guesstimates were out, what I thought was say 60yds was near 50 and explains why I miss occassionally when rabbiting. I would say that only using a scopes a/o adjustment is a poor comprimise for range finding, I can't stress enough how good they are, cheap as, reliable and will pr
  14. Hi Gloop, firstly thanks very much for your kind offer,I shall gladly take you up on your offer to show me the in's and out's of the 2 differnt calibres. It really is a mind field for myself as I am coming from a quiet s400 .177 and naturally favour the quieter lr but can see the advantage in poi drop on the 17hmr. As i work from my workshop/garage I'm free whenver it suits you best. I am keen to learn more so i can fill out this fac app and chat to me landowner about this! Can i ask how loud is the rapport down range from the hmr? I ask as I've taken to shooting from me 4x4 as the old back
  15. Hi to all members, thanks for looking, After 10 years at my .177 air rifle I'v finally decided to go FAC. Simple reason is I can't keep crawling around for rabbits as nearing 40 with bolts etc in me back. I am hoping there are some local members that use either .22lr or .17hmr as I am keen to actually talk to someone in perosn rather than on the pc. Ideally someone out there may own both and could help steer me through the pro's and con's etc. I moved from 22 to 177 years ago for the flatter traj etc but the FAC side of things is completly new and any help would be appreciated. I live and wor
  16. thanks for the advice there fellas. Damn if it isn't a minefield out there for nv systems. Thinking nvmt4 with adopter for day scope seems to be the best comprimise on cash vs quality. Seems that they may have stopped doing the adopter though as cant find them on fleabay anymore. Got a recent quote of 575 for a new merlin with ir and adopter. is it me or is that a we bit steep? Cam
  17. Hi folks, I'm looking purchase and use a night vision scope on a .177 s400. Only prob is alot of my permission runs near a dual carriageway. I'm wondering if the nv will be okay with occassional headlights or am I best only using well away from lights? I have been looking at atn's and ad-on yukon. Any advice would be appreciated as this is my first nv purchase. I shall be buying new. Many Thanks fellas for any comments. Cheers, Cam
  18. Hi all, I saw it was a lovely night last night so tried a different field for a change, glad I did cause what a nice evenings work it was. Previously had walked the land and as usual every time I go out it seems I always learn something new! I've now got the habbit of when viewing good spots to layup in its best to also get your eye down on the ground cause what seems flat whilst standing is often awful when laying prone. Got net up and waited with dog. 3 mins in and just settled when a nice 30yd bunny appeared from the hedgerow. Job done with s400 .177 and settled back down to wait. Now norma
  19. Went out last night 18.30hr till 2030. Was thoroughly put off my shot when across the field I could see a PC. He was obviously looking for someone. Assumed it was me so got out from under camo net and jogged over to see what was up. As I arrived the landowner also appeared. Explained air rifle etc, details took and everyone happy. Showed written permission and car reg so future problems ironed out. As we can see, someone with serious eagle eyes must have seen my setting up from the dual carriageway. The funny thing was it was reported that the man with rifle, scope etc in field also had a aeri
  20. If you are solo shooting I'd say get one of the small tracer stinger type. This will enable you to get close without the 300m glaring light spooking the field. When the red filter is attached the visible range of light is reduced down to roughly 40/50 yds. This will help you at night for a rough range find i.e. if you can see it then its just within range(roughly). They quite simple and sturdy without the large battery pack. The larger more powerful lamps are very good if your shooting from a car or have a shooting lamping friend to help shoot with so it really is down to how your going to s
  21. can picture the scene when the land owners comes around and finds you and the rabbit in head locks! wait till you see the dad!
  22. hands up, we've all been there I think at some atage, slighlty out by 1/4" and you end up with claret and running for awhile. Only fixed by time honoured ritual of cursing and more practice. Hoope the lazer works well. Yet to get one. Cam
  23. can i ask why are you looking for around the 22lb mark? Seems to me that if your going down the fac route I'd personally go for 30lb! Hitting targets at 80yds is easy when your just blinking/checking mil dots etc but in real world conditions after a long stalk, with fading light, side wind etc its down to how good your shooting is. Best of luck with choosing the right tool.
  24. the link about anything weird reminded me of a weird one last month. Walking upto usual spot with me s400 and dog, spotted a crow about 120yds off, thought nothing more, kept walking,50yds away now crow still sat on the ground(not standing but sitting) so i start to think decoy from the other fella that shots the permission, kept walking,20yds to go, blimey that thing looks realistic (best decoy ever) 1 yard away asked it what the f*** it was doing, the bugger woke up and flew off.. am I mad or did I see a crow sunbathing? it looked in good condition so just wondered if anyone else had seen th
  25. It's always very rewarding when the patient waiting turns something up! Makes it all worth while, nice one fella. Cam
