  1. Hello! My name is Noel, I am a newbie from the United States looking to learn more about patterdale terriers.

I am a long time American Pit Bull Terrier owner, of both the couch weight (pet dog) and the working dog persuasion. I pretty much live & breath working dogs as I am involved with training and making top notch dog gear for working dogs.

My Birdie is a 5 year old spayed female that I have trained to be my service/assistance dog. (I had an injury that left me with permanent nerve damage that affects my lower right leg.) She is a certified Service Dog as well as a Therapy Dog who visits elderly people in nursing home, the veterans at the Veterans hospital & children in schools. I never leave home with out Birdie.

Birdie is hands down one of the most versatile working dogs I have ever seen. Smart as hell with a bomb proof temperament. She can go from lying quietly under the table in a restaurant while I have lunch to chasing down rabbits, sniffing them back to their burrow and digging them out.

Birdie LOVES to hunt rabbits and keeps the field mice out of our house. I've taken her rabbit hunting on several occasions and my boss used to employ her to keep the rabbits out of his garden.

We've gone hunting with hawk & hound once. A gentleman that is a medieval re-enactor invited us to come along. He flew a Red Tailed Hawk and a Gyrfalcon imprint. Birdie thought it was the greatest thing in the world to flush rabbits, birds and other small game out of the brush for the birds to seize.

Back to Patterdale terriers. I've been looking for a second dog after we lost our Petey boy to cancer back in January. This dog would be primarily for my 7-1/2 year old daughter, who is quite frankly, hell on feet. We call her Gremlin.

Gremlin has boundless amounts of energy and NEEDS a dog that can keep up with her. She is very dog savvy having been raised with American Pit Bull Terriers as well as having logged in several hundred hours as a volunteer at the animal shelter, playing with dogs of all types.

We joke that Gremlin is a feral child as she prefers to be outside all the time and usually has at least one dog with her. We have been known to borrow our neighbors dogs after Gremlin has worn our dogs & our friends dogs out from playing.

A patterdale seems to be the perfect fit. A drivey little dog with lots of energy, stamina and tenacity that Gremlin can take to bed with her a night.

So there you have it. Now I'm off to read about the dogs :)
