  1. When i was working the dog, the ground we had to use was pretty small so hunting with my friend and having two young dogs we would double up at any time. The way I saw it we may only get one or two runs at the charlie on any given night so best to try both dogs. On days when we were beating bush and getting some good results with the beagles there may have been up to 5/6 dogs with various experience. I do agree that a dog should be taking charlie on its own at a certain age but all dogs differ. I mean my young grey/collie/wheaten x was crap on his first couple of reds but then he was doub
  2. Thanks for all the advice and help lads much appreciated. Will let you know how i get on with the repair
  3. Hi is the scope new??. If not it sounds like it needs to be renitrogen purged which stops internal fogging. Swarovski will normally do this free & takes them no time to do. The scope is second hand which I bought on ebay from the US. It was a demo model. I have contacted the seller but did'nt really get any where in terms of a refund or replacement. Can you tell me where i could get the scope renitrogen purged and serviced as i plan on keeping it for a few years. I live in London so I could either post it to a dealer although I would prefer to go in person to find out if I have been
  4. Thanks for advice. I have bought a set of flip up scope covers so problem solved. Just release the cover when ready to shoot. Was out today but nothing around i guess i will have to keep trying.
  5. I've just bought a swaro scope amd took it out tonight for a quick lamp. The vision through the scope was fine for the first 20 mins then it fogged up???? I tried to clean it with tissue but could not see a thing through it so home I went and within 10 mins of being in doors in the warmth it was perfect again. So I set the scope out again just to test it and had the same result. Is this normal or has the scope got a defect. All advice wlcome
  6. The best battery I ever had was from an emergency light fitting. 6AH x 12v. It was free as I work in the trade which is always good. It weighs in at around 2.5 kg so not a real killer. It charged in 4/5 hours and lasted 3/4 hours on the lamp. £130 for a battery imo is mad. If you wanted to compare the two take yourself down to your local electrical supplier and get a battery off him brand new for about £15.
  7. Was thinking of purchasing myself one of these rocking rabbit decoys for a bit of early morning charlie shooting. Has anyone used these before and are they any good? All advice welcome
  8. I just changed my O/U for a semi auto recently.I do alot of pigeon shooting therefore I'm in a hide most of the time so it's no hassle reloading quickly. With that being said if you are out walking doing rough shooting, then I find the semi can be a pain to carry. I guess alot depends on what type of shooting you plan to do. The other issue with the gun holding 3 shells is you need a certain approval on your SGC. I'm not 100% sure what the exact approval is but I'm sure if you ask your local police branch they will be able to tell you. I'm a little confused, most Semis are lighter t

  15. If you look on you tube there is a coursing video of this particular dog in what I would describe as desert conditions. Much the same as the saluki. If I find the video again I will copy and paste it on here.
  16. Thanks for all the advice jamie. I will let you know how I get on all in good time
  17. Thanks for advice. When you say clear glass what do you mean? I'm not up to speed with scopes and the terminology. what i mean by clear glass i mean zoom isnt as important on a scope as clear glass. there is no point haveing a high mag scope if when you turn it up the optics are rubbish. you want something that are bright under the lamp so when you see a fox the image is super clear Ok so when I'm looking at scopes on line at all the various web sites how can I tell if it has clear glass or other wise. I hope this is not a stupid question.

  19. I have recently got myself a .222 rifle without a scope. Now I know my own shooting abilities would limit me to shooting around the 150 to 200 yard mark with the gun so with that being said I now need to decide what would be a suitable scope for this gun and range. I would be shooting charlie with this gun most of the time whilst lamping. I have £200 to spend give or take. All advice welcome
  20. PSNI Very poor service. Been shooting around 12 years now and started with 12g shoty. About 5 years ago I got myself a .22 RF. Infairness these first two guns were no hassle a couple of months at the longest. Applied for .222 CF rifle 3rd January this year and I'm still waiting............ They keep telling me they are busy with applications but come on there are only 1.5 million people in the north of ireland and they don't all shoot
  21. I guess I have the worst case of playing the waiting game. I have held a FAC for 11 years now and started off with the 12g then some years later moved onto the .22lr. Infairness the initial couple of guns were no hassle a couple of months at best. However back in early January this year I applied for a .222 rifle and I'm still waiting......... I know this seems hard to believe and the more I think about it the more I get F@*&$*@ off. I have called the local police station and spoke with the firearms officer who is seriously unhelpful at best. After weeks of ringing and waiting the local fi
  22. I'm thinking of changing my old o/u for a new beretta al391 stone coat model and I would really appreciate any views either good or bad on this particular gun. Thanks
