  5. Hello John just a quick question. Which device do you use to range the fox. I have problems gauging distances in day light never mind when its dark the eyes are not as good as they were. I have a .223 set up with a clulite LED torch which is good out 200mts or so they say. I lamp alone at the minute so was wondering if you could advise me on ranging equipment that is suitable for a one man set up. ATB Derry Boy
  6. Thanks lads for the replys. I know this does sound like a stupid topic but I just wanted to be sure, pardon the pun.
  7. I'm heading to Norfolk ducking shooting soon with my 3 shot semi auto. What are the rules regarding having the 3rd shot. I'm used to shooting in N.Ireland where you must have the gun plugged to only hold two shots. Is this the case in England.
  8. I have to add the fact that a lot of people ( NOT ALL ) do not necessarily choose to hunt with dogs as apposed to guns as the UK guns laws are pretty stringent and not everyone who wishes to hunt by means of gun can do so. Do you disagree with deer stalking/ driven shooting or rough shooting in general. Are these not sporting types of hunting? Maybe I've been a crazed murdererkilling innocent animals recklessly for all these years. Or what about big game hunting have they trained a dog to catch buffalo yet? There is more to hunting than foxes?
  9. Can anyone suggest a range finder for night use. Something that would be accurate out to about 200 yards. ATB DB
  10. Forgot to mention............. Scrapped the Sauer in may and bought a Sako 85... Just forgot to update the family pics.. Oh.and sold the Zeiss and bought a Burris..... I love your sako 85 man thats one nice piece of kit. Would you mind giving me the exact details of the whole set up and a rough estimate on total cost. Was talking to a dealer today and he was looking £1256 for the rifle alone just out of the box.
  11. Can anyone suggest a good gun dealer/ shop with a decent range of rifles as I'm going to change mine hopefully. I had a look at Essex gun room which have a great range to pick from although a little pricey.I'm prepared to travel 1 hour any direction outside the M25. ATB DB
  12. Ok I guess the next question is which mod would be most suitable for this rifle and I'm not sure how they vary on price as I've never had one before.. Also if the rifle is cut and screwed can it be used without the mod? Just thinking where I would stand if for some reason I could not get the mod on my FAC.
  13. Thanks for that. Couple more questions. Do you need to have the mod variant on you FAC before you have the work done i.e barrel cut and screwed. And roughly how much should it cost. Thanks again.
  14. I have an old Brno .222 with the fixed sight attached to the end of the barrel. Can this be removed to allow a moderator to be fitted? All advice welcome.
  15. I'm looking to join a syndicate or clay bird club in the Hertfordshire area. I have been shooting for 12 years now with no accidents to report.Iam willing to travel and help out when needed around the shoot. All advice or help welcome please.
  16. The system in the north of Eire is pretty terrible at the moment. I have sent my permit in for renewal back in Jan and still no sign of it? Last year I applied for a .222 rifle again in Jan and the licence turned up 11 months later. Thank god this ticket lasts 5 years.
  17. If it's a sec.2 shotgun (ie; not more than 3 shot) then there is no requirement to have land. There isn't even any requirement to have any intention to use it. J. Ok thats good as it's only a two shot 12bore semi auto. So for the .22 and the .222 do I need to be a member of a club or if I can locate some suitable land to use them on will that keep the police happy?
  18. The lady I spoke to today said that I would need land to shoot my shot gun on. She also said I would need to join a rifle club to use my rifle? I'm not sure myself about this as at home it's like you said you either have the correct land with permission to use your rifles/ shot guns or join a club! I have a .22 R/F along with .222 C/F and an old 12g shot gun. The club you used to shoot at Surbiton Postal was it expensive to become a member.
  19. I have been living in the North London area for a few years now and have a gun licence which is registered in N. Ireland. I want to transfer my guns from N.Ireland to my new address.I spoke with the local police and have been told I need to join a rifle club and have permission to shoot on someone's land. Can anyone suggest a rifle club around the north part of the M25 which is not too upper class. I'm willing to travel further but within reason. I'm going to work on the land issue early next week just by driving around the local country side asking farmers for permission to control the pigeon
  20. Well done with the old charlie John, he certainly looked like he was getting some good feeding from somewhere. I must say I really like your rifle setup. What type of machine is that. ATB Derry boy
  21. Well 60 shells later and I have it spot on at 100 yards.......Thank god. The first thing I did was to take the scope off and clean the rifle spotless. I then went off and got myself some good ear defenders as advised by some one on this forum which made a big difference, good advice. I took the bolt out and set up a target about 20 yards away, then just looking through the barrel I centered it on the target. Then I adjusted the scope a fraction high and that was that. Started shooting at 50 yards to build up the confidence and was shooting out to 150 in the end no problem. As someone on here s
  22. Thanks for all the advice lads,I will let you know how things progress.
  23. I don't have a mod fitted and would be shooting from 50 yards out 150 just practising. The rifle has a two trigger pull system, where the first trigger cocks the second making it very short and sensitive. I shoot alot with my 12g semi auto were noise and recoil are no problem, maybe it will take time and practice to get comfortable with the rifle. Oh yeah it is factory ammo i'm using which I have also varied alot to find which brand see likes best. Can anyone suggest where i could get a few lessons on a rifle range. I'm in the N. London area
  24. Lads I've recently bought a .222 rifle and fitted it with a swaro scope. This is my fist C/F rifle and my problem is i could'nt hit a door at 20 yards. I've been shooting a .22 R/F for a long time and would be fairly confident at 100 yards, I would normally be shooting groups of 1.5" at this distance. I just can't get used to the recoil from the rifle compared with the R/F. Has anyone any tips which could help me with this problem. ATB Derry Boy
