  1. West wales, so quite far from you. Cheers for the offer.
  2. Cheers, Il have to slip down to tanerdy later then.
  3. Aye cheers butt. Bought what you suggested and they lick my fingers and without it they run to my finger to lick them they are coming well now, hob is being quite selfish with his food mind so I been throwing his in a bowl and giving my jills just a spread on the clear area of the hutch.
  4. Just been up there for a walk and didn`t see any rabbits only one squirrel. All the holes are under a curtain of moss. Theres no nesquik anywhere. So worrying a bit. Its a huge forest so there must be rabbit there but the farm no longer works only as a hobby farm for the son so there is very little cattle.
  5. Aye good one, I will ave a look later to be honest im an airgunner who is quite new to ferreting so my quarry is normaly shot wherever, finding holes and then working them is a different game. More info please lol.
  6. Well there were a few holes few and far between. The soil was not to fresh and no droppings, my biggest worry is how it`s overgrown. Maybe more will appear in a couple of months. It will be a long hike to the centre of the woods especially with the kit.
  7. I have been given permission to work a farm and also a huge forest. I went up earlier to see what it was like. The hedges have been cut on the farm fields there is very little holes, none actually in the fields. And the forest was so big that I didnt have time to look deep. Is it just because its overgrown or is it one that is actvity free?
  8. Cheers for the advice. I enjoy handling my hob, he is like a big gentle giant, and I hope my jills get the same. My jills came from a really young lad from a farm and my hob came from a hunter. I have only ever had adult hobs before, and then I started airgun shooting but after a while I missed the fun of ferreting. My previous hobs were never worked well properly, we were young and dumb. But as I got a squad of 3, I`m just bonding with them till around xmas till I work them plus I will be getting a ferret finder, Only things is mind just been to see my new spot to work and It`s overgrown and
  9. Glad this post started. Just been up n some new land to preview for the winter. Its farming fields and a huge woods. It`s overgrown and holes are practcally none existent, well on the farm land. This will be my first season out after a 6 year break. But I`m not sure if there will be any action. What do you guy`s think?
  10. There is a guy on youtube displaying a pair of polecat kits, he compares them to ferrets. Judging by what ive looked in to, they would not be very tame, and also a guy I saw working the other day had one on a lanyard like old school style.
  11. I have a similar sort of area to work, I have just been keeping an eye to see, but wait till xmas to work it. It`s a hedge about 1 mile long with a farm track on one side and a steep banking on the other. There are no holes in the bank though, so digging would be a nightmare, but as It`s so ling I will need plenty of nets. But I am the only ferreter in my area (as far as I know) so Il have to teach a neighbour so at least I stand a chance.
  12. Well id keep them on meat constant now then and its cheaper any ways. Mind you they are cooling down a bit now mind, when I think about it they are quite calm, I had a big old albino hob once and he was very aggresive. What is a ferret doing if it sort of hisses loud? I have heard its on the defensive and that it is excited but when it did it it looked quite fierce to me.
  13. Ye im in west wales and there are loads. I see them in the garden all the time, my missus often shouts your ferrets are out in the confusion. They are bloody huge mind, so any attempt to handle one would be with good glove. My mate has a taxedermist friend who done him one it looked brilliant in the shed on his shelf. The farmers love them with us because they are nabbing all the bunnies.
  14. Dry stuff and the odd rabbit and pigeon. I used to keep ferrets before and I was young and wouldnt work them because I was sh** scared of them. But as I have grown up I thought I`d take it up as I got my own place with 1000 acres in my garden to work with.
  15. Cheers for that, How can I say, different people tell me different things so it`s a job for me to know what`s right and what`s wrong. I kinda thought that a tap on the nose would sort of stimulate playing and they would play more. Im sure they will come tidy, In a years time il be moaning on how they arent so lively, lol. Another thing is the hob wants all the food but 1 jills gets a bit and runs of and the albino jill seems reluctant to go anywhere near food.
  16. I know stealthy only been on here a week and learnt more than I would ever learn i stupid book that cost £5.99. It`s like college or an apprentiship really. Can`t wait to take the bruisers out in december. Luckily I have about a thousand acres of farmland, forest and hedging in my garden. That`s the beauty of living in wales.
  17. Oh right il ave to ave a look. Do any of you guys know how to get rid of a mouse in a house, my dad has put loads of traps down but he`s not daft. My dad heard him fall down the cavity and run back up.
  18. That is quite a good idea stealthy, obviously we all learn by giving it a go that`s how you guys are so clued up. Well my jills are strange because I have got them to the point of being handled without nipping but they try and climb out of my hands and dive to the floor. I think it`s just spending time with them. My posts seem to fly on this forum, you guys must enjoy giving your advice out. The thing is the books that are based on ferrets as pets are full of sh*t because its like treating your ferret like a baby. As with working a ferret it seems more ruff and ready and that is what the fer
  19. I`m in west wales, I`l have to have a good look tomorrow. Is there always ferret write ups in shooting times?
  20. cheers guys, just checked and they are ok, I just worry. I`m a born worrier, lol. It`s strange because my hob is so soft you can stroke his head and he rolls over to have his belly rubbed, like a terrier!!! My jills came from a farm where a young kid was working ferrets old school way with the knot for every yard stuff. But my hob came from a hunter who is big into his hunting. His worked so well he` said he works ferrets thats all. No guns, dogs etc.
  21. I have 2 jills that are 13 weeks old. And I have aquired yesterday a 13 week old hob. The thing is when I get them out the jills are diving on him and winding him up, they dont like to be handled either. I`m handling them know and they seem to be ok mind after a couple of taps on the nose etc. Just to let you know when I go in and out of the shed I use the door, one time today I climbed out of the window and one of the jills started hissing and had her teeth out. But once in she was fine. So with the ferrets back in the hutch I fed them (dry ferret food in a bowl), the hob threw a load out and
  22. Ive looked and can`t find it anywhere. Maybe I might have subscribe. I don`t normally have time to read and that, but I bought the latest shooting times and it had 4 pages on ferreting and once I started reading I quite enjoyed it.
  23. Well I just checked them earlier all getting on, I felt quite bad for the big hob because he was just snooping about and one of the jills was diving on him pulling on him and that. But he soon joined in and started to play.
  24. Ai guys, Well were i live in wales is really rural but you get people come down on hols and that and they think that when we go out ferreting that we are smelly farmers. But the truth is my neighbour who is the farmer has no complanint about them camping, rambling etc on his land so I just sort of got to the point of looking at them and telling them that they should shut it and keep there nose out, like dont they even know where meat comes from? We have only had electric for ten years so I stick to what I know, But they didn`t moan when I walked with a rifle to much mind. Anyways guys some adv
