To all you PEST CONTROLLERS !!!
ratattack replied to billbroon's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I would probably do this job cheaply if i was new to mole trapping, IE: cover the cost of the traps, small garden like this sounds wouldn't need many. Then the traps are paid for, experience is gained that can be used on the next small mole job and everyone is a winner. -
Not a bad book to buy.

To all you PEST CONTROLLERS !!!
ratattack replied to billbroon's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
You are everything i hate about this pest control forum. A Stuck up snob looking down your nose at people who you think are less informed than yourself or "non-professionals" as you like to call them , really in the grand scale of things he's not going to go out of his way to join some group so he can be coverd for the 5mins it will take to do this job, dispite what you think. Pest control is not a hard job, getting a squirrel out of some old womans loft or setting a few mole traps, try pest controling 60,000 acers of grouse moor, its a lot diffrent from your 9 - 5 (if that) ploding around a f -
I would suggest you find someone who knows how to handle pike, you are new to it and a good sized pike will probably scare the shit out of you on the bank! I had a nice double figure fish at the weekend and it thrashed around and was a mare to unhook. You will need a carp rod/heavy spinning rod, min 15lb line if mono, a landing net, unhooking mat, needlenose pliers, forceps, lures/bait, wire traces, treble hooks etc before you even think of fishing for them. Any fool can catch a pike but it takes care and patience to unhook an angry pike. The gill rakers will cut you to shreds if you don't

I would say £20 to survey and set traps then £10 per mole after that. Thats what i do for a small private job anyway. -
How to rid slugs eating chicken food?
ratattack replied to harrycatcat's topic in Fowl & Feather Talk
If you can wrap a layer of copper wire(electrical) around the trough the slugs will not cross it. Yes they will still cross it! Thats an old wives tale As has been said feed in morning and lift it when they finish then same at night. They will probably eat the slugs and other grubs during the day if theres no feed left for them. You could also try treating the ground around the run with nematodes which will eat the slugs -
I'm with you on this one, big cats are not that elusive, they've got to shit, sent mark, there is no mistaking the smell of cat piss. Plus, females on heat can be heard for miles, if they were there, there would be no secret we would know , and the marks on that horse look nothing like big cat scratches. Strange how you never hear of any fox packs putting one out , and there out week after week Well a few years back when out with a pack local to cheltenham 4 of us saw a big cat, it came through about 20mins ahead of the pack of hounds. It passed across a gateway and the 4 of us

It kept breaking up for me too. She was a complete numpty from what i saw, comparing an uzi to a legally held gun!

You can hear snipe drumming all the time in the north of scotland at this time of year, they will be around boggy areas drumming. The males fly high up and drop quickly making the noise, part of their mating ritual. Eerie noise if you don't know what it is

A small amount of raw mince will be perfect, they do eat meat after all. Just an ounce or two enough to eat but not too much.

I did hear he used a .22 semi auto rifle and a shotgun, the laws may well get changed in regards to semi auto rifles and shotgun licences may require the same checks as rifles but there's not a lot more that can be done really. Knee jerk laws will no doubt be pushed through by those who have no idea about firearms. Guns don't kill people.......people kill people

Yeah lower yourself to being a grasser If they're being a pain in the arse then have a word with their parents, if they don't do anything then take the gun off them and smash it to bits. Grow up! People like these tools give EVERYONE who uses guns legally a bad name! Better to be a grass than to find out someone has been hurt because you didn't notify the police! Yep the police will probably do naff all but this way the kids don't start making life difficult for the OP.

by the same token why is .223 NOT legal for roe when it is more than good enough? DB It is in scotland
-
He has a rifle! Read the posts, AAA is adequete for roe at close range, not ideal but is capable of killing a standing roe. He is talking about shooting at 20 Yards so the rifle isn't much use. SSG is for use against reds, fallow, sika, etc can be used for roe too. If AAA is no good for roe why is it legal in the correct circumstances??? I've seen roe killed with 6's when i worked in a game dealer! I would much rather deer were shot with rifles but where there is a need for it a shotgun is very capable in the right hands

Scan ebay and grab a cheap 2 stroke, mine cost me 15quid for a strimmer off the bay and a small modification i have a very good smoker for a fraction of the price of that one! 5litres of petrol and a bottle of 2 stroke oil is the price of one of those refills and lasts as long.

I moved some red tailed bumbles today from inside a shed behind all sorts of junk, they wern't best pleased at the upheavel but it was better than a squirt of death juice!

Surely a summer job is where you make money??? The verminator is not very original really, try something that sounds less common. You must mean you are going to be doing your hobby instead of sitting on your arse or getting a proper summer job! No-one will pay you to shoot vermin, people are lining up to do that constantly. You should have some form of insurance. As for the pests won't be back......well you have set yourself up for a big fall there! They will be back thats for sure! How are you travelling around...push bike? Not having a dig just saying it won't make any money, it's

Yes you can, depends on where the deer are though. http://www.bestpracticeguides.org.uk/firearms_rifles.aspx

Done about a dozen wasp nests now, 5 at one house all busy building away. solitary, tawny mining bees, honey bee and masonry bee calls have been mad for a couple of weeks. The grubs are very good but only should be from nests NOT treated with insecticide!
