  1. Not that many use garrons exclusively these days, the estate i was on used argo cats and quads. Try and get a placement interview and state you would like to learn about pheasants, theres plenty that do pheasants. Guys come from estates all over scotland, it's not all upland estates. Try anti histamines for the horse allergies
  2. Whistle them in as you feed, works well with hand feeding they will soon get it.
  3. Not designed for long shots but if you are that close then an airgun would be sufficient. I take it you mean expanding ammo rather than exploding ammo
  4. Got any insurance? A job like that will require public liability insurance and BASC,SGC,CLA insurance etc will most likely not cover you for this job. I'm guessing you've never trapped a mole before, nevermind on a golf course with the pressure to get them gone and the traps that will go missing and need replaced etc etc etc. Save the headache and call in someone who knows what they are doing. Stay away from gas, one wrong move and it's goodnight, theres no antidote for a lungful of gas.
  5. Set in late afternoon on a windy night, leave overnight and check first thing in morning, no sense disturbing a snare line when it's working. Never snared during the day, too many people to see you and find the wires. Good way to lose your wires.
  6. So you've never killed a fish by accident then????? Also as a stalker you should know a stag at 11-12 years old is one to be culled regardless of head it carries. Tooth wear would be quite advanced in a beast that old
  7. Why is 4 shots so out of order??? I doubt very much that a head shot would have been possible given it was ragging her around!!!!!!! 3 to the body and one to the head to finish it when it let go is pretty likely The dog is a big powerful animal pumped up and in attack mode one shot.....yeah right....mind you the keyboard marksmen can always do better eh
  8. A litre of petrol in a FULL tank of diesel will help stop the fuel waxing in cold weather, well known technique to reduce it
  9. Skin getting stuck in the intestine.......Nonsense! Does a fox skin a rabbit before it eats it????? The whole thng is perfect for them once defrosted
  10. i was told off the head keeper of lernie estate in aberdeenshire that he will give me a placement and from what i hear its a good mixed estate but the keeper hasnt been back in touch yet to confirm everything and its been torture trying to get hold of him though a few year back i helped a keeper(unpaid)for 8 months feeding pheasants a bit of hard graft and vermin control and have done grouse beating for 4 seasons and i must admit just doing the grouse beating on the particular moor i was on was a right hard day so if i was to have the choice i think i would prefer to do pheasant as a permane
  11. Google is your friend http://www.jamjarshop.com/shop/product.asp?catid=39&pid=111
  12. Errr you mean mouse traps then??? Buy a few proper rat traps and catch the buggers Choc or peanut butter for bait.
  13. Yep but the guy you recommended it to isn't, as a qualified operator you should know it was pro use only!
  14. If you are doing it keep it to yourself you plonker Illegal and not good to be posting on the web
  15. Best read the lables on the cans you use paul, it's a professional use only product
  16. And notify the fire brigade if you live near other people to save a fire engine turning up when the worried neighbours ring em!
  17. Flight them as they leave the wood at dusk as they head to their feeding grounds, superb test of shooting skill! Really good over snow. Shot my first one this way years ago. If not then just walk them up as you would pheasants letting the dogs work the cover.
  18. Probably got plenty to do with the pathetic dispalys by some england fans who seem intent on fighting and rioting at every given opportunity. Imagine that when they get kicked out on home turf At least we won't have to pay anything for the huge amount of security required
  19. Serves them right, it takes no time to push the majority of the snow off the roof if it's a lot on there! f****n dangerous if it falls off in a lump into the road for the vehicles behind! It seems to be a case of look how much snow i've got on my car, sad really
  20. A year normally, as the courses are a year long. Some estates keep you for both years if you do the HNC too. Wages depend on estate.
  21. Cant you insure the car and stick him on as a named driver If the kid is only a named driver he shouldn't be driving it as the only driver, that is Insurance fronting.....part of the reason quotes are so high in the first place! If he has a bump and is found to be the only driver they won't pay out. Better off getting it insured 3rd party only for a year to get some ncd under his belt, being a named driver he probably won't get ncd anyway so is false economy. Try finding an insurer that does the 10month accelerator policies. Prices will depend on where you live too.
  22. A knife to the atlas joint, shotgun to the head or a .22 rimfire to the head. You must be a lunatic to use a centerfire for head shots at close range. Very dangerous for you and other people in the area for a good distance, fair enough tool if it has moved off and can be dispatched at distance. A .410 to the back of the head is quick, quiet and not too messy.
  23. Not gonna work if they are coming out of the toilet, they will go straight back down it when you turn up with the dogs A bung in the toilet pipe will solve the problem much quicker
