  2. Walk your dog around the outside of fields with horses slowly bringing the dog closer and every time the dog makes the slightest attempt at barking or lunging at the stock jerk him sharply on the rope with a very sharp leave, slowly and gradually lemgthen the rope ie distance between you and the dog ,let him get nearer the horses if he is fine get in the field with them ,dog still on rope and start him close to you then slowly build up the distance . All dogs get used to cattle sheep horses etc with the proper training . I dont want to start a debate on shock collers but I have been trainin
  3. Correction Ive just read the magazine again you are correct Tom it is mentioned. That will teach me to slow down a bit and read things properly.
  4. Yes i take your point Tom the Quote was from the SGA website ,their is no mention of this event in the members magazine it would seem they are only representing a small section of country sports. I am also a member of the SGA I e-mailed the Sga a few months ago trying to find out what if any action they were taking on the subject of the docking of working dogs tails ,ive had no reply it seems its been laid to rest by them and most other shooting associations.
  5. Ah well, you cant please everone all of the time , I take it you have some inside info on the event I was under the impression it was still in the planing stage , the info i found is A date for the diary We're currently in the midst of planning our first ever SGA Scottish Game and Angling Show which is taking place over the weekend of 6-7 March next year at the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It's going to be a fantastic event with everything the countryman and woman needs to prepare for the big outdoors season ahead. There'll be country clothing

  7. Having trained and worked terriers retreivers cockers and springers over the last 30 odd years (christ im geting on a bit) I have had to reduce my kennel to just four dogs an old springer docked by me one third removed and two young cockers and a young springer all with undocked tails the old guy never gets his tail damaged the two undocked dogs always get tail damaged they work two or three days a week and unless we get this stupid law changed in Scotland I cant breed any replacements . 9. Thanks Dave. Deker the guy who did the fox control before me was shooting anything between 30 and 50 foxes over winter prior to lambing. Ive walked the ground and flushed one or two on each occasion and drove round with the lamp and have seen between 2 and 5 at night, I think problem is not helped by a council landfill whithin a mile ,although this site is to be closed in the next few weeks. Thanks for the info.
  10. I need a .22-250 to address a fairly heavy fox problem before lambing starts in the spring . I have thought of buying new but cash is a bit tight at the moment so any tips on what to look for would be great. I have heard that .22-250 barrels are easy shoy out is this true and how can it be spoted., Thanks in advance.
