Hi all just a wee tale about a stalk this morning that could have been my last . I was on the ground for 4.30 am not a bad morning at least it was dry and no gales as i made my up to a sheltred area on the highest fields of rape i glassed a roe buck that was feeding just below an old wall around a wood that separates the arable from the heather i stalked up the hill to get within 200 yds then crouching allong the other side of the wall i could see the buck of to my right along this old wall ,still about 150 yds ,down on hands and knees to get to a part of the wall that had collapsed bipod dow

My thoughts exactly ,when do we ever get any credit for the other wildlife that benifits from the work we do with game birds. Im afraid the average person only has the information pumped out by the bbc and RSPB and they often take this info as gospel. Maybe we as the shooting stalking hunting community should contact all our shooting associations and collectively produce a massive media campaign and get the truth out there once and for all, it has to be educate the public in the ways of the countryside not the ways of countryfile. Oh well another wee rant over.

Sorry I ment to add I would leave his/her training until around eight months old this of course depends also on the individual pup, some start earlier than others but at four months i would leave well alone. Cheers Hoolit

Hi i agree with a lot of whats already been said ,he is a pup let him have his puppyhood, you already know he can pick things up and is happy to carry them about . Get the recall working well without the dummy first then go on and do it with a dummy. I dont use treats for training as the pup may get into the habit of spiting the dummy out in anticipation of the treat. With a dog thats not very sharp on the recall I will take him out in the field get somone to hold him preferably somone the pup does not know get yourself off and hide call/whistle on your pup using your best girly voice ,he w

Its seems that after all this time and countless dogs suffering painfull tail damage the ban may be overturned in Scotland . According to a reporet in the SGA magazine the University of bristol and the British Veterinary Assoc have stated that there is a case for working dogs having their tails docked and that the research done shows clearly that working dogs are suffering tail damage. At last ,ive been badgering the smps at Hollyrood for years how the hell has it taken so long. Now I best not get carried away it has still to go before the scottish parliaments rural affairs Secretary .

And I also have a few buzzards in the area of the pens i seem to be geting on top off the foxes for a change .(shit i hope im not speaking to soon) Take care Hoolit -
I spoke to a bloke from the farm yesterday he reckons the early wheat prices will be high owing a lot to do with the lack of wheat coming from russia with all the fires etc then later prices should fall a bit,its a gamble waiting for prices to fall I have enough pellets to do me then a ton and a half of wheat left ,then like others i may have to ask for more money for feed, christ that'l go doon well. Keep smiling Hoolit

Hi Sam i had to get the spade out this morning and dig a trench from the middle of one pen to the outside to reach a ditch ,about 40 yards in total . It rained like hell all night until about 5am the sun is now splitting the trees christ what a country one thing the weather is never boring up here. Good health Hoolit -
Thats a shame I had a similar thing happened to me five weeks ago, I had seen this nice big Roe buck not a great head but big in stature and in great nick ,I had seen him on three occations and thought right saturday morning ill go out and try for him before he buggers off . Saturday morning up a darkaclock into the landy and off park up in the field next to the big house and off i go glass the field where i have seen him nothing on the next line of trees he often feeds along nothing ,into the landrover and just i pass a field entrance there he is hit by a car i think more likely a van or s
