Well if you can ID a rabbit at 200yards with a gen1 Cobra Merlin i must be doing something wrong and spending too much money on gen3 units. So you can tell its a rabbit and not a hare/cat/dog/owl or worse scenario some one lying down, yes i know you are not claiming to shoot at these distances but people reading your post might get the wrong idea and yes i have owned a Cobra Merlin which was good for an air rifle, could ID out to around to 100yards with an 100mW laser illuminator, you might see eye shine at a greater distance but not ID it. My experience is over 30 years shooting and 15 yea

Ye your scope will work it just makes life better with side px Do you see image in nv adaptor exacttly like in day scope or does it have a colour to it.Will it have a good clear picture on all mag ranges. No its not like a day scope, depending on which NV you use ie: gen1 / gen2 /gen3/ digital you can get a green image or yellow image with an image intensifier tube and digital is like looking at an old TV. As for turning the mag up on your scope, this depends on the scope/NV unit being used and how much IR you are using you can go up to 12x mag usually, i can go to 24x mag with

it is real, army issue, afghan, just want to know what it is worth, thanks. be careful what you say about what you have if its mil spec someone somewhere will want to know where its gone and how you got it you could get a knock on the door from some very strange men-be careful what you say.buyer beware!

Its down to a number of things. What rifle are you putting it on and what distance are you hoping to shoot ? Do you have just the one rifle as a dedicated NV unit will need to be zeroed in every time you take it off where an add-on can be put behind a number of scopes preferably with side parallax or front parallax, when you have answered these questions its all down to your budget, i would recommend buying the best you can afford, NV is very addictive and can be very expensive so try to buy a unit that's going to put a smile on your face for a long time. Best time to buy is in the summer

personally i wouldn't have one unless it was dirt cheap (under £400) most have the Chevron ret which is a waste of time so i would use it as a spotter, you can see out to 150yards with an IR laser attached but if it has the Chevron ret you will struggle to shoot anything smaller than a fox consistently at distance, ATN night vision does have a bit of a bad rep but some of the Monocular are not bad and make a good add-on unit.

Lee just buy the Ranger and then buy a N1000 IR laser from here at £120 http://www.nvscopes.com/night%20vision%20laser%20illuminator%20N1000.html it works out cheaper, the only difference is the Pro has a laser instead of an LED this is why one throws a beam 250 and one 600m Ranger 5x42 best price on the net is here at £320 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yukon-Ranger-Digital-Night-Vision/dp/B000HZT88I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288646428&sr=1-1 The Ranger pro here at £657.20 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yukon-Ranger-Pro-5x42-vision/dp/B0032XRARI/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1288646903&am

You can get a DSA from here http://www.wighillparkguns.co.uk/products/products_category.asp?cat=199 as for it being serviceable, only if the tube doesn't go down as it will cost you around £60 to £ for a tube and what ever the fitting costs, the rest as to cleaning lenses and tube if it ever needs it is around £25

It can be done but he will need an IR targeting laser fitted to his rifle I can understand a targetting laser, but then what about holdover or under, as with a telescopic sight/night vison, you have mil dots set at different ranges, but the laser would surely be set up, at a set distance, no room for error on calculating the distance, or have I got it wrong? No you have not got it wrong as this is why you do not hear of it that much, this sort of set up is usually on sub 12ft lb air rifles for rat shooting.

If you just want to mooch why bother with night vision when a lamp will tell you whats on the land and save you a good bit of money, but if you wish to go down the NV route here are some rough prices OK you want a head mounted Monocular which vary in price ie: Generation one from about £200 to £600 should see a rabbit at 50 to 100yards, Generation 2 from about £700 to £1500 should see a rabbit at 100 to 200 yards, Generation 3 from about £1800 to £4000,should see a rabbit at 200 to 400yards, then you will need a head mount which are around £ to £200 then you will need a DSA cage to pu

You would be better off with gen2 than gen1 for two reasons. (1) Gen1 is not very good on centerfire rifles due to the recoil, the tube inside a Gen1 is like a light bulb and can go down quite easily. (2)You would need a good Gen1 to get out past the 100 yard mark. The way a Gen2 tube is made in very complex and would take a long time for me to type out so in easy terms its done by micro-channel plate and sealed in a resin which makes it very robust. You might want to look at the Pulsar N550 Digital night scope. If you need some more advice please PM me and i will give you some more advic
