Further Update On New Lurcher Association
Giro replied to Dewclaw69's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I was never on the steering group Tomo. I decided to help refrom the ALC and get the AWL going. All terrian . The AWL is for individual members or clubs. The AWL wishes to promote and protect the heritage of the working lurcher. Awll.co.uk It is now because the lads and lasses on here have decided to start their club, you've just stolen their idea haha I'm not being arsey it's just what I see, atb AT I think before they started their steering group, other parties where in discussions.. I doubt weve stolen anything mate.. There was some talks, when the admentments where fi -

Folk keeping mentioning 20 years ago.. The ALC was not even formed then. Did we even have internet lol , well we never in my house. 15 years ago, it was in its Heyday.. Coursing was top of the agenda and fighting the purposed hunting Act. It did lose its bulk of members, when they lost the liberty to legally course. Now a lot of people accepted the ban, keeping within the law & below the radar. We should not focus on the past… 20 years ago I was teenager. Things have changed politically and there is a glimmer of hope now. At this time, the AWL wants to join other feildsports -

I've seen two litter brothers of this percentage. Both were racy as you would expect. Both capible of putting edible game away, however one would not entertain fox control single handed. They were geniuine 3/4 grey 1/4 bull crosses.. Could rack up a reasonable bag of rabits, seemed to have enough stamina but never went for massive bags. The dogs worked few nights a week and everyweekend. I liked them and have seriously considered this cross myself..

This is where it's all spilled out.. We've answered our critics and supporters here .. It only seems right, to keep adding to the orginal thread, for all to read.. We've no divide and would welcome the steering group to join, either as induviduals or a group. AWL wish to unite lurcher owners .. I've stated previously,we have no fight with our fellow man,as we have our sights set else where. Good luck to the steering group. . Happy Hunting. My own view is, The AWL has bulldozed over what was trying to be achieved on this thread, maybe due to personal differences, -
I had a York multi gym.. I've had a bench too.. I started off well and they started hanging shirts off it lol.. Found it more sustainable going to gym. The multi gym took up some floor space - bench easier to store. You coulad do a fair bit with bells and a bar.. I found I didn't have enough weight for dead lifts - squats.

Phenomenally proud to announce that Sir Johnny Scott will be President of the AWL. Sir Johnny has been a proud and vocal supporter of running dogs (and indeed country pursuits as a whole) for some time; he notably appeared on the BBC with the late Clarissa Dickson-Wright, as well as frequenting magazines such as The Field Magazine and author of A Book of Britain. -
Google them bud. The 1.3 was ok, lost power on hills if you never got revs up. Don't know if I'd fancy towing a weight in one of them ..

Yep that's Todd the sire, both parents of the pups are soft mouthed dogs. Have they all gone now mate ?? Cracking litter..

My old bitch woukd fetch first few.. The next few would be retrieved but dead. After that she'd be laid down on her side next to them .. Do saluki crosses even come back ?? Lol
-
Do you get proper man points,if your dog will retrieve a hare live to hand ??
-
Have been able to train lurchers and even a Patterdale to retrieve (that crunched everything). I've got one lurcher that's just not conformed and has been to a residential with experienced gun dog trainer .. He said its just not in the dog & with being a nervous type, he thought a forced retrieve would cause more harm than good.. Bar The none retrieving this bitch is great. I seldomly work her as ive got better in the runs and lamping her would piss me off.. Do you think you could get a dog like this retrieving and how would you set about it ?? I've took this

But it is not just the catch though is it? It's the whole experience the hunt, the catch and the retrieve are all part and parcel of the dogs work. TC In your world mate lol Actually all my lurchers have all been live to hand. I honestly cannot see the pleasure in owning a point and shoot dog that just kills the rabbits and drops them. To my eyes it reflects badly on the owner that he could not be bothered to teach the dog to retrieve, I mean it's not rocket science after all. TC Your moving the goal posts now.. Your talking about retrieving lol.
