  1. nice 1 mate, i did the same about 3 weeks ago, and was chuffed to bits with myself. but then i was also told that it is illegal to keep a kelt & what is more i think it is the same in the uk. sorry but i dont mean to ruin your catch. like that i was advised to take the pic of the fish down so as not to cause anymore trouble for myself. 20. hi niall,i think you are better sticking to the shallow bays at this time of year as the pike wiil be moving into shallow water getting ready for spawning, there is a big comp on at lough key next weekend, big prizes to be won, yeah i had been keeping my eye on that competition on the web site link you sent me but now as it happens i have relatives coming over from england the same weekend so kinda throws a spanner in the works. i had hoped to get down for a look about the same weekend. i seen a couple of pics of very nice pike, i think it was you and your mate that was up here that day.
  21. ever fish bell lake in waterford pal we have had pike up to 25lb ,the majority we have had have been around the 18lb mark .There used to be some serious pike in there i aint fished it in about 3 year never fished it mate, only really ever fish lough erne and the smaller lakes in fermanagh. hope to get to try different waters this summer. niall_b73
  22. four of us hired a boat on lough erne in search of a few pike today and fished from 10am till 4pm. we went from the manor house marina as far as the lakeland fourm and back. not as much as a bite the whole journey. i can safely say i wont be hiring a boat from there again. tho loking on the bright side of things i finally got to try out 1 of my new fishfinders, the garmin ff140. it is quite a handy machine for telling the depth and the shapr of the bottom tho i have to say for all of the few fish that did show up it would make you wonder why we bother trying to catch the fish at all. mo

  24. Mackerel: Fresh mackerel is a fabulous bait. Flash frozen mackerel will do the trick but it is not as effective as fresh fish. Mackerel is presented in any number of ways to entice everything from dabs to cod to big shark. It is incredibly versatile and easy to find. On boat trips, it will be free in that you can catch a boxload heading out or at marks. Collection: Collecting mackerel as bait is simple from a boat. Mackerel can be pulled out six at a time on a set of feathers (Hookai are good but keep the hook size down to 2/0) if you hit a shoal. Six mackerel is the "full house" - w
