    Luke Nugent wins Catch of the week for this 60lb conger, one of the biggest reported in recent years. On the weekend of the 24th /25th July a party of anglers from Drogheda enjoyed some great fishing with pollack up to 10lbs and ling up to 7lbs. They were joined on Sunday by three young anglers where conger eel was the quarry of choice. Luke Nugent of Co. Westmeath, caught and successfully boated the fish of a lifetime on his first sea angling trip. Luke captured and safely returned a great conger eel of 60lbs. Pollock, pouting, cuckoo wrasse and dogfish were also boated on the trip. see

    i'm not sure about the pike fishing, i aint been out lately but the fishing in general has been very quiet this year for me. i dont seem to be catching as well as i did last year !! niall_b73

    an article i found in the anglo celt recently Illegal fishing Two Polish nationals who were caught fishing illegally on Lough Oughter were each fined €50 and ordered to pay €428 costs when they pleaded guilty at Cavan District Court. Maciej Maciejewski and Marcin Wzzesinski both of 30 Castlerosse View, Baldoyle, Dublin 13, were summoned that on April 18 at Lough Oughter, Killykeen, they caught two pike, which exceeded the permitted length.     i am headind out for an all nighter tomorrow night so should know more then. we are heading out for our first tench session but there are also pike in the lake so going be targeting them as well & the silver fish bream/roach and ect. will keep you posted niall_b73

    i would have to say that you idea of leaving the deadbait out all day while you fish away else where stinks !! :thumbdown: if you are going to use a dead bait setup you should be sitting right beside it and keeping an eye on it at all times. what if the pike takes the dead bait and you are elsewhere !! the pike is going to swallow the trout hooks and all. :wallbash: leave the rod beside you and keep an eye on it, when it needs attention give it some. this site might give you some help: http://www.pacgb.co.uk/ niall_b73
