  2. probarbly a stocked trout water(with 4 strains being in the lake). Shouldnt imagine they allow worms. If so, he'd take the place apart. Probarbly best bait available, other than livebait.. not a stocked water, all natural wild fish. niall_b73

  7. A "big ole pike plug" to me is 12+" in length, not really a good lure for trout, whereas a small plug like a 2-3" rapala or big S would be more suited. Or try a mepps spinner they always produce the goods for me!! is there any particular breed of rapala, there are that many of them on the market its hard to know which does what niall_b73 Team Esko brown trout pattern (it imatates small fry really well) but be warned i have had large pike on this lure in the past!! cheers mate another 1 on the shopping list niall_b73

  11. jeyaus mate i could never tell you that, if i did i would have to kill you i guess from that description it would not be hard to work it out. been living beside it for 3 years now and never really bothered much about it but was down there yesterday for a while chillin in the car. it was an absolutely stunning day, there was not a breath or a cloud in the sky, the lake was like a sheet of ice. i could see every rise and the odd big 1 jumping and i have got to say it has rattled me a bit so i have to give it a go !! pm me the name and i will let you know if you are right or not.
  12. well the season is upon us and i am ever more itching to get to a very large lake just around the corner for me. the lake in question holds salmon, 4 different breed of trout, artic char along with the usual perch roach ect.... it has been ages since i have fished for trout (not since i was a child) so i would have to say i am a little rusty. all i ever used then to catch trout was the little mepps spinners. i do have a fly rod but am not great on it & am saving it for later in the year. so i guess i am looking for advice on what lure/lures i should be using for spinning for
  13. Dear angler, here's where we spent your £24m Anglers contributed £24m to the Environment Agency last year. Today we can see what they spent it on. For the first time, the agency is publishing a detailed breakdown of fishery expenditure online. It makes interesting reading for any angler. "We are frequently asked how we spend your money to improve fisheries," says an online report entitled Where Your Money Goes. "This report shows how, in 2009/10, we use our funds to improve and protect the environment for fish and those who enjoy fishing. It explains how our fisheries work is
  14. (Corbicula fluminea) Asian clam The Asian clam has recently been discovered in Lough Derg. Like the Zebra Mussel (Dreissena polymorpha), Asian Clam has the ability to become highly invasive in a short period of time and at high densities it can alter the food web and compete with native mussel species. Asian clam are known to aggressively out compete native invertebrate communities, limit phytoplankton biomass, biofoul water intakes, alter benthic habitats, add biologically available nitrogen and phosphorus to systems, and impact aesthetic and recreational values of public beach
  15. By Dick Warner Monday, February 21, 2011 THE countryside is rather quiet at present. Most things seem to be still and dormant, waiting for the spring. But below the surface in our rivers, lakes and canals there is plenty of movement and drama. The pike spawning season has started. The pike may be Ireland’s ultimate predator and the slow migration towards their spawning grounds is traumatic for everything that swims. There is a spawning ground every few kilometres in a river or canal and every few hectares in a lake. It’s always in shallow, weedy water — usually betwe

  17. not sure of the proper termonoligy but i always took them to be grey. manys a day i put in down at the river when i was young trying to catch them without gettin a pinch from them. below is an extract about our native species: For over 20 years we have been studying our largest freshwater crustacean, the white-clawed crayfish, starting with the distribution and habitat preferences of this small freshwater lobster. We then moved on to look at its growth and reproduction in the wild and captivity, its potential for aquaculture, and its value as a bioindicator. Recent collaboration with

  21. Hello mate, They can come out on any bait really, and i have personally seen them come out on sweetcorn! My personal favourites would be squid, raw pigs liver and if there isnt too much small stuff in your lake i would fish half a tin of luncheon meat on a long hair with a nice big hook to match the size of bait your using. Rods i would say at least 2.5 test curve upwards but the most important thing would be 20lb new line, strong hooks and really reliable knots. All these will be tested to the limit when you hook one. Hope this is helpful, good luck. Neil. I have no idea about fishing
