I've got a few acres these days just a few Pigs,Goats and Poultry and although the place is called a Farm don't really think of Myself as a Farmer.some might?
This one was 7.5lb it was a few years ago now I'd gone camping with a Dog a rod and an air rifle and lived off what I could either catch or shoot apart from the odd loaf of Bread, luckily the Sun shone every day.My best Bass was 10.2lb on an evening when I caught 5 with the smallest being about 4.5lb I'd struggle to repeat that these days.
When I was Keepering in 70's-'s the use of Cymag was widespread I used it when Vixens had Cubs. Back in those days I also used another white powder poison called chlorollose, which I used mainly in Eggs, for Crows and Magpies etc.
I was going pigeon shooting a few weeks ago, when I was heading out to the field and bumped into the Farmer who said there was already some Lads out there! What can you do? So I just said f**k it then. He was saying you could go out with them or go down the bottom end I got in My van and went. I'm still pissed-off!
It's the first time I've seen it I had one a few months ago that I could still see after dumping it and that one rotted away but what you say makes sense!
Seriously though it took 3 days for everything to dissapear I took that pic on the second day the next morning it was gone the neck and rib-cage had been well chewed at that point only head backbone and back legs were intact.
I caught this Fox in a Cage trap just over a week ago something started eating it in 3 day's it was completely gone. I suppose it was a Badger anyone else come across Badgers eating Dead Fox's
It looks to Me like you've got a Beagle who's Bloodlines come from a Hunting Pack and She looks totally right for that they are very different dogs compared to the Show or Pet Beagle.
I'm not interested in getting My Dogs ears cropped but I would like to be able to still get thier tales Docked 3 weeks ago My Dogs were running through the woods and one came back with a Broken Tail. So now I have to wait for it to heal before He can run again,6-8 weeks!
There were and in some parts of the world still are two reasons for ear cropping one reason was if a Dog was used for Fighting without cropped ears they would be ripped badly in a fight. I can vouch for the other which was to prevent them ripping thier Ears whilst Hunting.I had two imported Cane corso's who were Boar Hunting in Sicily both had Docked Tails and Cropped Ears. It wasn't done for looks as they were Farm Dogs over there.
Yes that's Good advice I do a lot of loose baiting outside of the trap usually use a cockeral as the main bait but will get some bones from the Butcher leave them for a couple of weeks then put some in and outside behind the cockeral usually get them. If your like Me and live in the country You have to persevere or Shoot the F*****r.
If you've got plenty of space ,large open fields either big or small will do well,Myself I have mainly small fields to run so a smaller dog does better,
Back in the 70's if you were talking about a Lurcher,it would very likely have been Grey/Collie/D'Hound There wasn't much else around. Would work on anything!Good Dogs.
It's been a while since I've done any large scale rearing but as I recall we would first put bits in at about 5-6 weeks then catch -up to put the larger ones in when about 14 weeks if this wasn't done whilst keeping them safe from Predators they would without fail Kill each other. I stand to be corrected by anyone Keepering today?
