  1. And yes I would like to add this is both mine and my girlfriends families first lurchers....as good as they can be it's proper double trouble when it kicks off!
  2. Tell me about it! Technically I have two! It's a funny old story. I was just about to finish university and move back into my parents house, so I got a pup out the litter my uncle bred. Then my girlfriends father had just lost his beardie so you guess it he had one! Then life threw me a curve ball and I moved in with my girlfriend so all of a sudden I have two pups at my feet, both dogs!! And after my mum was adamant she didn't even want me to have a pup, she has through fate ended up with a pup from the same litter! So I think my mums brother, my uncle has a lot to answer for haha! Jim
  3. Thanks mate, Mum was a deerhound greyhound bedlington greyhound x greyhound And sire was a whippet greyhound (Deneside belle) ATB Jim
  4. Hi everyone, Im after getting some good books on conditioning and getting lurchers fit for work and racing etc. I know there is the running dog maintenence one is it? But wondered what other good books are out there. My pups are only 6 months old so its strictly just for bedtime reading for the next 12 months or so! But its my first running dog so It can't help to read up properly. Anyway I have stuck a few pictures of the pups up. There all 6 months old and all out the same litter which my uncle bred. The first two pictures are both dogs and the pups my girlfriend and I chose to keep

  6. Yeah I think thats what happened to him, he worked slowly which made us crack up, I kept imagining this 3 legged creature hobbling around underground

  8. Hi everyone, After waiting years to finish my studies and get myself a pup and set up with some ferrets and such I finally got out for the first time on Sunday was chuffed to bit with how everything went so I thought I would share a few photos (there not great but hey ho). Got up Sunday morning and drove an hour to an old friends farm to meet up and put all our theory into practice and try to avoid disaster We managed to escape this storm St Jude which was a good start, couldn't of asked for better weather. We got to our bit of land we was going to ferret pulled up, let the pup ju

  13. Lovely looking dog that mate, mine doesn't look all too dissimilar at the moment. I have an old thread with some puppy photos but no recent ones of him. All the best with your dog mate, Jim
  14. Thanks mate Yeah im out with my best friend and the girlfriend is coming along, I designated her as holding the dog so as he don't go flirting off and come a cropper!) Thanks for the decent advice about getting him steady and that, I'll give it a go Cheers, Jim
  15. Hi all, I am thinking of going ferreting for the first time with my first lurcher pup (recipe for disaster possibly haha) But I am after some advice. He is 5 months old and I just aimed to get him out used to being around the nets and ferrets and such. He is spot on with the ferrets in the garden and has picked up 2 mixi rabbits so I'm hoping a little outing ferreting will do him some good also. Anyone think this is too young or any other good pointers? Help is much appreciated ATB Jim
  16. Hi everyone, I've been ferreting with my uncle for yonks but I've moved away from home so I'm getting myself set up. I don't know too much about what quality nets I need to be looking for so any advice is great. I'm out ferreting at an old uni mates a week on Sunday so if anyone can point me in the direction of where I can buy some decent nets and have them delivered for then that would be spot on. Thanks for reading, Jim
  17. Just wondering if anyone knows of some decent leather fish tail collars? I've found quite a few nice ones on greyhound websites but they were way pricey. Also anyone know of anywhere that sells collars with say a dog chasing or rabbit or whatever on them? (I have no idea how to describe it better sorry!) Just think they look good Cheers, Jim
  18. Cheers for that mate. Looks very similiar to that blue dog my girlfriend kept. Good luck with it! Atb Jim
  19. I started a similar post the other day about this. Someone recommended to me that to register with sacs which insures you for working your dog on your permission which would help with farmer confidence. I found this permission slip: http://www.basc.org.uk/en/utilities/document-summary.cfm/docid/666E76E9-1296-42AF-8E03447E57CDBE3B It looks quite professional so I'm thinking of replicating it to suit working dogs. I think a covering letter explaining yourself and such would help as well. ATB Jim
  20. I laughed at that at first, think it was the notion of me actually doing it But it does make a lot of sense, might have to try it! ATB Jim laugh all you want i cant get round all my permission, and in season am out 3 days/nights a week Shouldn't of laughed really should I

  22. Thanks for that With my pup only gonna be around 5 or 6 months come this season I thought with any new permission I would leave him out and just crack on with the ferrets to start with if that would help my cause. ATB
